For Violet
Born 1999, M, from Powhatan/Virginia, United StatesFor Violet
As the young Robert Johanneson walked down a bustling New York street he saw an ambulance and a police car race by him, heading in the same direction he was. But Robert ignored the vehicles for if you lived in New York you would hear them every single day. Robert stopped to buy a hot dog from the vendor on Main Street. He even paused to look at the newspapers for sale. For some odd reason Robert was in a good mood today. He did not know why though. If anything, he should be in a bad mood for he almost got fired at work for supposedly “slacking off”. Robert felt like an Olympic runner as he drew closer and closer to the finish line of his apartment where his lovely wife Violet, waited for his return. When he was a few blocks away from his apartment building he noticed that the emergency vehicles were stopped in front of it. Then Robert turned into an Olympic runner, pumping his arms and legs feeling the cracked sidewalk beneath his feet. Robert had turned into an Olympic runner because the person on the stretcher nearing the ambulance was his wife Violet.
“She’s gone” the EMT stated. “Sir, I’m very sorry for your loss.” But whatever he said didn’t matter to Robert. Someone had broken in and killed Violet! It didn’t matter about his money or electronics that were taken because they had killed Violet! Right after the police conducted their investigation Robert asked them if they had any clues. The police responded by telling him that whoever did it was good because there were no prints or DNA left behind. Robert went to bed that night and fell asleep right away but when he awoke, he swore to himself that he would find whoever did this and make them pay for what they did to Violet. He was going to do this… For Violet.
5 Years Later
Robert was on the tail of the murderer. The murderer knew it too. He was currently following a lead about a man named Ice. Ice was a gang leader that had the power to get someone killed with the snap of his fingers. Someone like Violet, Robert thought to himself. Ice was known to be hiding in an old warehouse, were he slept all day and dealt drugs all night. Robert was armed with a Glock 17 handgun, the same kind of handgun that police officers used. Let’s just say that Robert got it from an officer that had something to do with his wife’s killing. He was now at this warehouse looking for Ice, and information. If Ice didn’t give information, than he didn’t leave. That was when Robert heard the click of a gun being loaded, the noise was very close behind his right ear. That’s when instincts took over, making Robert duck his head, turn around and punch his assailant in the nose. Robert did all of this before the man even fired his gun. The assailant went down like a sack of potatoes hitting his head on an old forklift. The hit on his head knocked his assailant out cold. The mysterious assailant was Ice! Robert immediately picked up the unconscious Ice and walked out of the warehouse before any more trouble arose.
When Ice finally came to, Robert had questions for him. Most of the questions Ice answered with no problem. The ones that he didn’t answer he got a good kick in the stomach. When Robert had gotten enough material from Ice, he promptly pulled out his gun and shot him once, twice, three times in the head. That one was for Violet.
Ice’s information led Robert straight to an even bigger drug lord. This one’s name was Big Mac. Big Mac was rumored to have at least four bodyguards with him at all times. Robert wasn’t afraid though. If Robert died than he would be with Violet forever. If Robert didn’t die he would know that Violet’s killer would get proper justice served to him. With that in mind, Robert walked straight into Big Mac’s apartment and opened fire. This time he had two guns. He still had the Glock from the police officer but now he had a gun from Ice. Ice’s gun was unfamiliar to Robert and he missed everything with it so he immediately threw that gun away. Robert killed everyone in the apartment, except Big Mac. Big Mac was still there trembling, pointing his gun straight at Robert. Robert coaxed him to put his gun down and walked over to Big Mac to use the “borrowed” handcuffs from the police officer. Then Robert swiftly left the scene, leaving all of the dead bodyguards behind.
Big Mac confessed. After a few shots to the leg, Big Mac confessed to killing Violet. After killing Big Mac, Robert proceeded to reload his gun and say silently to himself “that was for Violet”. After Robert uttered those words he shot himself three times in the head just like he shot Ice and Big Mac. And now, just like that, Robert was with Violet, but this time, he was with her forever.
