John was an ordinary boy who always liked to watch sports. His favorite sport was boxing. He always liked to see people fight, so he thought of joining it. As he walked up to his mother he thought what could go wrong, its just boxing. “Mom I was just wondering … can you sign me up for boxing”
“Sure as long as you get good grades in school but if I see your grades getting low I’m pulling you out of it.”
“Thanks mom… I promise I wont disappoint you,” said john as he ran to his room.
As john woke up he got dressed, ate breakfast and rode his bike to school. He told his friends that his mom let him join boxing. “Are you sure about joining boxing? It sounds pretty dangerous,” said john’s friend, George.
“I’m 100% sure. Don’t worry, I’m going to be fine.”
As the last bell rang John ran to his bike and rode home. When john got home, he started to do his homework. When his mom got home he asked her if she had signed him up. She said yes. It was every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. His first day was today. He had to bring loose shorts and a shirt that won’t bother him while he punches.
They were now at the gymnasium. John’s mom introduced her son to the coach of the gym. The coach told John that boxing isn’t all about fighting, it’s about knowing who your opponent and respecting him. John thought the first day was going to be easy but the coach made him do exercises for the whole hour. The coach told him that had done a good job and to go home.
The next say John was so sour that he couldn’t even get up from bed. He told his mother that what they did was the most difficult thing he had ever done in his life. He thought to himself, maybe this was a bad idea. He thought is was easy and it was all about hitting a person, but no its all about loyalty.
The next day the coach instructed everyone that they had to bring there own boxing gloves. Of course John told his mom to by him a pair of boxing gloves. On Monday the coach paired john with a sparring partner. John thought his sparring partner was going to be easy to hit but it turns out his sparring partner’s dad was a champion boxer. His sparring partners name was Michael. Each Monday and Wednesday they would have to go through the gym using every piece of equipment. On Fridays they would have to sparrow with there partners.
It had been three months that John had been in boxing. His coach had told every one that there was a boxing tournament. John had told the coach that he wanted to be in the tournament, so the coach signed him up for it. John was ready for it.
It was the day of the tournament and John was a little nervous about it. He had to go against one person. He did not know how his opponent looked like. He was imagining a big buff guy looking down at him and knocking him out with one punch. When he saw his opponent he was glad to see it was a person just like him.
1st round. John was the one to throw the first punch, but missed and got hit by his opponents fist. He then knew that his opponent was not going to be easy. John was trying to hit him but he kept dodging his punches. He knew he was giving his opponent points just by hitting him. 2nd round. John new he was wasting time. John then saw a fist coming at him and got hit by it. All he heard was 1… 2… 3… 4… John quickly got up. Before he knew it was the end of round 2. John the had a flashback of is couch saying “don’t give up, I know you can do it.” John had got the intimidation from the flash back. He then started boxing like a professional. He started hitting his opponent and dodging his hits and ended up knocking out his opponent. He had won, the crowd had gone wild. He then Knew he had won. He had learned to not judge a person of how they look, and to never give up.
