The sun shined through the window and the morning dew sparkled in the early sunlight. My eyes squinted as my dog started to lick my face telling me to get up. I patted her head and thought, who needs alarm clocks? i sat up slowly rubbing my eyes trying to get my thoughts together. i remembered flashes of the many dreams i had gone through and instead of trying to think of them i stood up and walked over to my dresser. it took one foot-length to reach it, and i opened the top drawer and threw on some shorts. i walked out of my room, My dog storming past me to her morning bowl of food. I sat down in the chair in front of the computer and tried desperately to wake up. My head started to thump and i groaned in pain. i slowly rose from the chair and went to the bathroom. I pulled the aspirin from the medicine cabinet. i threw them down my mouth without bothering to drown them with water. My head continued to thump and i threw two more aspirin down my throat. i screwed the top back on and left the bottle on the counter in case i would be coming back later. I looked at the board and saw my mother's scrawled handwriting. Danni, Make sure Ange eats and gets let out, along with Milo. Clean your room before you get online! Love forever Mom.
I rolled my eyes and opened the door. The morning air rushed in and i shivered in spite of myself. My dog Ange ran outside and Mom's dog Milo ran after her. I chuckled softly and shut the door. I walked into the kitchen and sat down in front of the computer. I turned the screen on and went onto my page. The computer sang its cheerful song welcoming me back. I clicked on Mozilla and went onto Facebook. I leaned back in the chair and scrolled through my news feed occasionally laughing at a funny picture. Suddenly someone by the name of Carrie messaged me and said, "Hey whats up?" I shrugged my shoulders and wrote back, "just woke up, you?" The icon popped up indicating that she was writing back. The message popped up, "Same here, ready for another boring day." I smiled and said, "Amen." i minimized her message box and continued onto my page. My timeline popped up and i scrolled down slowly seeing what kind of things i had been thinking about the night before. I grimaced and clicked the screen off. nothing really new, so i decided i'd check later.
I went into my room and turned on my T.V. i flipped through the channels and decided on a movie from the 90's i'd never seen. My attention never really stayed on the movie as my thoughts went into hyperactive and i sat there most of the movie just staring into space. Suddenly i remembered my mum wanted me to clean my room. I looked around and knew i didn't have much. I threw my clothes in the hamper and made my bed quickly but messy. I didn't really care, s'long as it looked decent Mom wouldn't bite my head off. I shrugged into my trechcoat and put on my shoes. I walked to the board and wrote swiftly, Went to Rantos, Be back around 4, i'll do all the chores you want me to when i get back, Love Danni.
I walked outside and began to jog to the town that loomed in the distance. It would be a beautiful day, for the Wind was already warm and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I pushed my legs harder as i turned the curve and started to run down the cornfield. Luckily they had taken the corn out a month earlier, so i wasn't running through a cornfield. I reached the road in a couple of minutes and still continued running. Rantos was closer now, about half a mile away, so i pushed myself even harder. My heart was going wild as it threatened to burst out of my chest. I reached the city limits in a matter of minutes and i finally slowed myself to a walk. I couldn't stand being in my house for a long period of time, so i spent most of my time in Rantos with my friend Erik. I walked up to his small house and knocked rapidly on the door. Erik walked out in his usual clothes, shorts and t shirt. He mumbled something about it being too early but walked outside with me anyway.
We walked down Rantos' Main street. Unlike most towns, this main street was completely dead abandoned buildings lining down the street, which included a bank, a theater, and a ford dealership. Erik and me argued about the basketball game the night before and how the team won. It was quite an unusual surprise when Rantos High school won a game, especially against the team we played last night, who won state the year before. We walked down the road still ranting about our victory when my eye caught a moving truck. "yo, Who's moving in?" Erik shrugged and walked up to the truck, while i trudged slowly behind him. A girl came out of the house about 16 in age, with dark black hair, with Blonde tips. She smiled at Erik and said, "Hey I'm Ashley." Erik stuttered back, "H.. Hey I'm Erik and my Shy friend here is Danni. We're juniors here." She turned her head to me and looked at my eyes. i stared back wondering how it was she had such beautiful eyes. i broke contact and stared into the distance. Ashley turned her head and asked, "well I'm a Junior too, maybe we'll have some classes together," She laughed and i shuffled my feet at the angelic noise. "mind if you help me with these boxes boys? My dad's one of the laziest people ever." Erik quickly agreed and picked up 3 boxes all marked Kitchen. I Picked up a very heavy one labeled Ashley and carried it into the house. It was bigger than mine that was for sure. The living room was twice the size of mine along with the kitchen. I started to breathe in huffs and laid the box down next to the stairs. Ashley laughed again and stood next to me. "need some help superman?" I smiled and shook my head. "where's your room so i can put it in there?" She replied quickly with a tone of flirting in her voice, "first door on the left after you get up those stairs." I sighed heavily and picked up the box and went up the stairs with my arms quivering with the weight of the box. Ashley walked behind me pushing on my back in case i fell. Her hands felt warm and i was disappointed as she took them off when we reached the top of the stairs. She pointed towards her room and i walked into it and set the box down. "whats in this thing? rocks?" i opened the flaps and found a box full of weights and Ashley started to laugh hysterically as i leaned against the wall, my arms sore. She quieted herself as i slowly slid to the ground. "I'm sorry, but that really was funny. You're strong though, that's over a 150 pounds of weights in that box." I looked at her and noticed she was a lot closer. i Studied her eyes more carefully this time. They we bright blue with a ring of green on the outside. This time she looked away as Erik stumbled up the stairs. He appeared in the door with another box With Ashley's name on it. he set it down on the box of weights. "what you all doing?" I sighed and got up slowly. Ashley stayed close to me and I asked, "How many more boxes do you have?" She shrugged and said, "A couple.. but afterwards you guys wanna show me around town?" Erik nodded enthusiastically and ran downstairs to get the rest of them. I walked down slowly, occasionally looking back just so i could see her. She smiled each time i did so and pushed on my back so i would go faster. We reached the bottom of the stairs and found all the boxes in the living room, stacked neatly. Erik came rushing in from outside and grinned. "All done, lets go!"
I half walked half jogged out the door after my friend, Ashley at my heels. We started to walk down the street towards the park. The park was another piece of evidence showing that Rantos was indeed a dead town. The hoops were broken and the swings were all hung up on the top bars. We went under the Gazebo and sat on one of the benches. Ashley sat right next to me. She doodled on the surface of the table while me and Erik continued our argument about the game. I stopped abruptly when Ashley stood up. She walked over to one of the swings and began to unravel one of the ones that was hung up. She sat down in it and swung slowly. I looked at her carefully not wanting to look weird, but i noticed she had covered her eyes with her hair. I stood up and walked over to her. I put my hand on her shoulder and whispered, "is everything all right?" She grabbed my hand and squeezed hard. I uncovered the hair off her eyes and saw she was crying. Her eyes were puffy and red, yet still so beautiful. I bent down on my knees and once again whispered, "Everything will be ok," She squeezed harder still and i almost grunted in pain, but i stayed still. I heard Erik move behind me and saw him walking away. clearly thinking he was being dismissed. I rolled my eyes and thought of the argument looming in the distance. "I..I miss my friends.." Her voice cracked and i replied softly, "Don't worry, everything will be fine. Rantos isn't that bad. Hell, I'll be your friend." She looked up at me and smiled weakly. She let go of my hand and i noticed it had turned purple. i rubbed it subconsciously and stood up. "It's not just that though... i had to leave my boyfriend.." My hopes were crushed instantly when i heard that one dreadful word, Boyfriend. I looked down at my feet and said, "well maybe you'll find someone new." Wrong, but i had to try. She laughed and stepped off of the swing.
We started back towards her house, and we talked about the new school. I told her it was small, and people would probably leave her alone for a while until they got used to her. i told her i would show her around and that i would assist her whenever she needed it. we stopped in front of her house and she stared at me. i couldn't help myself when i started to lean in. Her eyes entranced me and her smile made my heart fly. I leaned in slowly and felt her lips touch mine. They were soft and i felt my heart go wild. I kissed her more passionately and she returned the favor. She stopped and opened her eyes. I stared into them and saw guilt and love at the same time. I felt horrible and stepped away slowly. "I didn't mean.." she held up her hand and said, "I think i made my first friend," I laughed and swooped in for one last kiss. When she walked into her house, i felt an insane longing and couldn't stop thinking about her as i fell asleep at home. That night i dreamed of kissing her. And i wished it would never end...

07/17/2019Raven,
When you are young, it can be that simple, and scary to move on. It was young love - and true to young love, it didn't follow the script. Guilt over an old love fades as a new love blossoms...and that is true no matter how old you are.
Well done!
Smiles, Kevin
