The Robbery
It was Christmas Eve, the daughters name was Kelly of the man Don who owned the supermarket had gone home for the night after her shift. Kelly walked home alone while her father Don was closing up the store. It was late, and the sky was cloudy. After Kelly left the store was broken into. Once she had heard the news, she ran back to see if her father Don was okay. He had explained that he was putting the broom and mop away in the back room after cleaning up, and then three large men came barging into the store. Don did not recognize any of the men. The first and second man watched the door, as the third man rushed to get the cash out of the register. Don hid behind the shelves so the men would not see him; he was too far away from a phone to call 911. When the men left he called the police. When the police arrived the men had already fled the scene. “They took the gun I had and all the money that was in the cash register which was seventy-nine dollars.” don had said to the police man.
“I will file a report and make sure you will receive your gun and money back. These men are known for robbing stores around this area.” Officer Allen said. The next day Kelly and her father returned back to the store to work their shifts. The faces of the three men faintly showed up on the security cameras, they had sprayed a substance on the lens so they could not be seen. When she checked the cameras from the other night she thought that the police could identify them. Kelly drove her 1994 Chevy truck down to the station, so she could turn over the tape to the police. They were grateful. “Mam, thank you for this tape now me and my crew might finally be able to find out who these scumbags are.” The policeman said.
“You’re welcome sir; I hope you identify these men so my father and I can live in peace again. So we do not have to worry about if the gun my father had is not being used for any harm.” It had been three or four days before hearing back from the police. They have identified the men. “Jeff, Michael, and Kegan were brothers that have been on the run for a month now. They escaped prison while in California. The three brothers were put in custody then thrown in prison for life. They were caught for selling drugs, it had been said that a few of the drugs they sold to people killed them. We have been looking for them ever since they found their way out.” The cop explained.
Kelly was relieved that the men had been identified, but it does not mean that their money and gun will be returned any time soon (she sighed and drove back to work). She explained to her father what the policeman had told her. Her father don had recognized one of their names. Jeff Thomas, her father had known Jeff since high school. Jeff and his family had always been troubled, Don remembered. Kelly’s father was worried for her safety. Jeff was known for treating people badly, and since Kelly had turned that security tape into the police, he could find out and come after her for revealing his brother’s and his identity. Her father had a policeman look after Kelly and stay with her at all times. The Thomas brothers were still on the loose and capable of anything since they had Don’s gun.
“Father, I do not think that it is really necessary for a policeman to be with me at all times. I will be okay, the Thomas brothers are in hiding and surly would not come after me.” Her father just looked at her with a worried look, he told her that he would talk with her later and then he got back to work.
Later that night as Kelly and her father got back to their house in the country, they noticed that the door had been unlocked. Something had been wrong. “Wait here sweet heart, I will go check it out.” As the father walked through the house, he saw nothing out of the ordinary. It was safe for Kelly to come inside; it was just a false alarm. He had remembered that he forgot to lock the door behind him that morning.
The weekend was just right around the corner. Kelly had asked her father if she could have one night off, and he replied with a yes. That morning he went to work like any other normal day. Kelly was excited. It was her first time off of work in two months. Her father usually works a long day, six am to seven pm, or even maybe six am to nine. It all just depends on the day. When Kelly woke up she turned on the T.V. and sat down on the couch. She turned it to the news channel. The Thomas Brothers story was on, it was said that the men were spotted somewhere downtown by a local. She was frightened, she thought to herself that maybe it wasn’t the right day for her to have a day off from work. Later that day her father called. “Hello” Kelly said. “Hello Kelly, are you doing okay at home?” Don said. “Yes father I am fine, but I fear that the Thomas Brothers are near. They have been spotted downtown.” Kelly said. “If you would like me to come home, I will be able to soon. I could get someone to cover this shift.” Don said. “No, no father it is alright. I will be fine.” Kelly said.
Kelly had fallen asleep. When she awoke, she heard noises coming from outside. She got out of bed, and went to her closet where she hid until her father got home. “Kelly, are you home dear?” Don said. Her father walked up the stairs to change out of his work clothes. “Yes father I am here. I was in my closet, I heard some noises outside and I got scared.” Kelly said.
As Kelly and her father ate dinner, the phone rang. “Hello” Don said. “Hello sir, one of your neighbors had called in and said that there were three people waiting outside your house in your front yard and that it looked quite suspicious.” The policeman said. Don looks outside his kitchen window. “Yes officer, there are seems to be people standing in my front yard, but I cannot make out what they look like.” Don said. “Would you like me to come over and do a drive by to check it out.” The policeman said. “If you would like to you can.” Don said. He hangs up the phone and takes his final look outside he still cannot make out what their faces look like. They seem to be coming closer, and closer. “Kelly, I would like you to go up stair and find a hiding spot. The Thomas brothers are here.” Don said. Michael and Kegan stayed behind Jeff. The policeman pulled up and shined his car lights on them. The three men ran. The officer called for backup and the brothers were caught on the next street over. Michael and Kegan were caught but Jeff escaped the sight of the other officer and fled the country. No one told Kelly or Don. While the two brothers were captured and sent back to the California prison, and Jeff went back to where Kelly and her father lived.
Since Kelly and Don thought life was getting back to normal, they went on with their lives and continued to work at their store. They did not expect to see any of the brothers ever again, until one day when Jeff came in to their store. Kelly was working the register and her father was in the back cleaning up. Jeff came into the store wearing a disguise; at first Kelly did not recognize him. When she did it was too late, Jeff had Kelly at gun point. “You’re coming with me” Jeff said. She was terrified; she thought that she was never going to see her father again. Her father came to the front, to see how she was doing but she was nowhere to be found. Don went on with his work; he did not know what had happened until she did not come home that night.
Don waited, and waited. She never showed up, so he finally went down to the station to tell the cops that he was sure that his daughter was missing. Meanwhile, Jeff took Kelly to California. “You are going to help me get my brothers out, since you got them arrested” Jeff said. Kelly feared what Jeff would do to her if she did not do what he told her to do. “What is it you need me to do” Kelly said “You will find a way to get my brothers out of prison or I will shoot you” Jeff said. “Okay, okay I understand. What will happen after I get them out” Kelly said. As she wiped her tear away from her face. “I’m not sure yet, you might live or die. Depending on if you complete the task I gave you” Jeff said.
For the next few days Kelly had been trying to figure out a way to get Jeff’s brothers out. She found it very difficult. But she had to find a way, she did not want to be killed and she wanted to be able to see her father again.
“Have you found out where my daughter might be?” Don said.
“No Sir, but we are working on it. We suspect that Jeff Thomas took her. We plan to find her and bring her back safe to you.” The officer said.
“Thank you officer, I have been very worried about her. Is there any chance that you are able to track where Jeff took my daughter?” Don said.
“We are doing the best we can Sir, and we will also update you with new information or tips we get in about where they might be.” The officer said.
Don had been worried about Kelly but had no choice but to work. Bills had to be paid and work had to be done. The police had a lead about where his daughter may be, he came in right away. “Don, thanks for coming in, we have a possible lead about where Kelly may be.” The officer said.
“Please just get her home safe.” Don said.
“I will make sure that happens, someone said that they spotted them in California.” the officer said.
That night the police were notified in California to look out for Jeff Thomas and Kelly James. The cops were given a photo of them and were caught that night. Jeff never got what he wanted; he actually got put in with his brothers. No more harm from the Thomas Brothers will be made towards the James family. Kelly was returned home safe and her father Don continued working at the store. They received their gun back and now they will have protection if anything like this ever happens again.
