Bedtime was Alicia’s favorite time of day.

Every evening, the five-year-old enjoyed a snack of a piece of fruit, a huge chocolate chip cookie, and a tall glass of milk. Following the snack, Andrea, Alicia’s mom, read a Bible story to her daughter. Shortly after the prayer which followed, Alicia was usually fast asleep.

On one particular evening, however, a burning question popped into Alicia’s mind. ‘Mom, you’re always telling me God is God,” Alicia said. “But why is God good?”

“God is good because He sent His son, Jesus Christ, into the world to die for our sins,” Andrea replied. “And since we believe in Him, we will live with Him forever!”

“But why is God good, Mom?” Alicia asked.

“God is good because He provides the food we eat,” Andrea said.

“But why is God good?” Alicia asked.

“God is good because He gives us a nice house in which to live,” Andrea said.

“But why is God good, Mom?”

“God is good,” Andrea replied, “because He gives us families to love us.”

“But why is God good?” Alicia repeated her Mantra.

“God is good because He gives us water to drink,” Andrea said.

“But why is God good?” inquired Alicia.

“God is good because He allows us to worship Him,” Andrea said.

“But why is God good?,” Alicia asked.

“God is good because He gives us the opportunity to learn about Him,” Andrea observed. “And God is good because He allows us to be thankful for all of His blessings.”

“But why is God good, Mom?,” asked Alicia.

“God is good because He loves us even when we do things to hurt Him,” Andrea said.

“But why is God good, Mom?” Alicia asked.

“You tell me, Alicia,” said her mother. “Why is God good?”

“God is good because He gave me the best mom and dad in the world,” said Alicia.

“But why is God good?” asked Andrea.

“Because He gives me a good church to go to,” said Alicia. “And best of all, He raised up Jesus from the grave by the power of the Holy Ghost.”

“But why is God a good God?” asked Andrea.

“God is good because after Dad gets home from work tomorrow, all of us are going to the ice cream shop for some delicious banana splits,” said Alicia. “We’re celebrating Valentine’s Day and Easter.”

“Easter is still several weeks away,” observed Andrea.

“Jesus is in my heart all the time,” said Alicia. “So every day can be Easter, and every day can be Valentine’s Day!”
