Holidays Have Changed
Born 1978, F, from Bayonne, United StatesIt's sad for me to look back at my childhood now that am an adult. As a child Christmas meant the world to me. The night before Christmas our tree would be lit up and our stockings would be hung right beside it. On the end table near the tree, there would be a plate full of cookies waiting for Santa Claus. My mom would tell me to get to sleep early, otherwise Santa would not come. I would lay in my bed and try to fall asleep but all I could do is think about all the gifts I was hoping to receive. I would finally fall asleep. When I awoke in the morning, I would jump out of my bed and run to the living room. To my surprise there were so many gifts underneath our tree and our stockings were filled to the top. I would then run to my parents room and wake them up. We would all return to the livingroom and begin opening our gifts and emptying our stockings. I had at least 15 gifts. I would get dolls, money, clothing, games and accessories. My stocking would have perfume, cards and candy in it. We would then get dressed and make our rounds to family and friends houses. I would receive at least 10 more gifts.
Christmas for me as an adult is just another day. It all begins the night before when I help my mom put my siblings to sleep. As soon as they are sound asleep we begin to start wrapping the presents and stuffing the stockings. While we are doing this we eat the cookies that were left for Santa Claus and then we go to sleep. In the morning, as soon as the sun rises, we hear the children opening their gifts. My mom gets out of bed to see their happy faces. I stay in bed for about half an hour more. When I get up my sisters show me where my gifts are. I begin to open the few that are there. My sisters tell me that Santa bought these gifts especially for me. Yeah Right! My mom is the one that bought these "not in style" clothes. In my stocking there is an envelope with fifty dollars in it. I appreciate the money but I would be happier if I had presents to open. I guess this is how life is. Maybe, that's why some people would like to be a kid forever.
