No one expected it, I knew. When Nelly came back, her unusually sad and down face told me something must have happened. I settled her down and placed her bag on the table. Nelly has been my best friend for 12 long years, and I knew the best resolution was not to question her further and forcibly ask her to answer. So I waited for her to explain the situation to me. She fell into my arms and hugged me tightly, sobbing "Kerry, I have cancer! The doctor told me my recent headaches and dizziness was due to cancer! How am I going to survive? Kerry... Help me..." I was utterly shocked, my mouth wide agape as I tried to mutter "Ca... Cancer?? How could that be? You must be kidding me!" I half jokingly said. "Yeah, there's no doubt. Cancer."
We chatted for a long time before I put her in bed. I covered the blanket for her as I felt a hot burning sensation, and before I knew it, I was crying. How could my only confidant, Nelly, have cancer? How am I going to live if she dies? A thousand questions raced through my mind, but none had answers, sadly. It must have been a long and tiring day for me, because once I went to bed and my head touched the furry pillow, my eyelids began to feel heavy and the surroundings floated around me. Then everything went black.
Nelly woke up exceptionally early next morning at five, and when I asked her why she'd did that, she simply replied"Kerry, I want to treasure the friendship bond between us, now why don't we go jogging?" Half awake, I muttered under my breath, "Why not?" and reluctantly changed into my jogging suit.
It's Nelly's excited and eager eyes that made me realise, I could anytime lose her, and I should really cherish every moment I get to spend with her. While jogging, I asked Nelly, "What are your future plans?" "Fight against cancer, be brave," as she raised and flexed her 'muscles'. "Yeah, that's the way to fight against cancer. I want to live as long as possible with you, Nelly. Please, fight cancer, I love you!" I threw myself into her arms and kissed her on the cheek. She, did the same too.
