Trapped in a Video Game
Born 2003, F, from Vancouver, CanadaLaura Woods was an average person. She was likeable, enjoyed fast food and received ‘okay’ marks. So normally, Laura and her brother Cody were addicted to New Super Mario Bros., which had been given to them along with a brand new Wii for Christmas. Laura was just arriving home from her friend Franny’s house when she heard a scream. It was her Mums. Laura ran into the house. Her mother was holding a burned casserole and the area around the oven was a little smoky. “Oh, it’s okay, Mum,” she said. “We can have,” but Laura was interrupted when her brother Cody burst into the room. “PIZZA!” he finished. “And it’s cheese, I’m ordering!” With that, Cody dashed out of the room. Laura could hear his feet pounding towards the parlour, which the phone was in. Laura could hear the phone dialing, then Cody making the order. Mum groaned. “Well, that’s Cody for you,” Laura said. She went out of the room. Cody was beckoning her to play Wii. She sighed, and then agreed. They headed down to the basement. Laura plopped down on her cherry red bean bag and Cody took his usual sea blue. Mum called for pizza, and the siblings went up. When they returned, their bellies were stuffed with warm fresh cheese pizza. They resumed the Mario game. Laura relaxed, and began to feel drowsy. She could tell Cody was too, because his eyelids were drooping. Soon enough both fell into a deep slumber.
Laura woke with a start. Cody was shaking her frantically. “What,” she mumbled sleepily. “Mario world, we’re in Mario world!” screeched Cody. Laura jerked awake. They were in a large field with mushrooms and goombas and turtles and bricks and………. It was true! “H-how did we get here?” she asked. Cody shrugged. “Well, we’re in Browser level and I suppose we have to beat Browser to go back,” he said grimly. Laura nodded. “Well, at least we know what’ll come, we’ve played this level millions,” she said. The two started forwards. It was a narrow path, with lots of obstacles. Laura saw a turtle. She hopped lightly on one. It turned into a shell, and Laura jumped over it as it spun towards her. They jumped over a hole. Up ahead, Laura could make out a mystery brick. She went under it and bumped it. “Ouch,” Laura exclaimed. A red mushroom popped out the top. Laura ran over to it and collected it. Laura felt herself grow an inch taller. “Cool!” Cody said. He found one, but jumped on top of it and jumped mega hard. “Ground pound,” named Laura. A flying mushroom came out the top. An ice flower sprouted out the bottom. “Flight!” shrieked Laura and Cody at the same time. Both scrambled up. Laura touched it with the tip of her finger. “Man!” grumbled Cody, picking up the ice flower. Laura soared up in the air. “WHEEEEEE!” she shouted gleefully. Cody pouted, and shot an ice ball out of his hand. He missed a turtle that hit him. He turned back red. “That hurt,” he muttered. Laura was enjoying her power of flight, she had never flown! Not even on an airplane. Then, she got hit by a flying turtle. It hurt, badly. Like an electrical shock. She let out a paralyzed scream. Then everything went black.
Laura woke up. Cody was shaking her madly. “Laura, Laura!” he said. His voice seemed far away and distant. Laura’s flight power was gone. “Let’s continue,” she mumbled, embarrassed. Soon they came to a halt at a castle. “Great, castle level!” groaned Cody. “And we have no powers,” added Laura. The two entered the castle. Browser Jr. was standing at the on the other end of the room they had entered. He let out a high pitched cackle, then threw himself forward. Cody hopped on him once. Suddenly, the ground beneath him crumbled. Cody fell down, screaming all the way. Laura let out a scream herself. Then she faced Browser Jr.. Laura let out a battle cry and charged forwards. She leaped onto Browser Jr. and defeated him! Laura gazed dazedly at the heap of Browser Jr., who was sprawled on the ground. “Yahoo!” she shouted, letting out a triumphant victory cry. She felt herself begin to feel light. The room around her swayed, then disappeared. Laura was now standing in front of the TV. Cody was sitting beside her. “Y-y-you did it,” he croaked. “Yup,” Laura grinned. Cody grinned back. “That was crazy,” complained Cody suddenly. “I fell in a hole…… and then I was here. Anyways, good job sis, mission completed.” Laura said back, “Yep, good job. Mission completed!”
Part II: Superhero Saga: Flying out the Window
We flew out the window. Wind was streaming in our faces. I, Jay Baker personally thought this was all great fun. But I was majorly mistaken.
If you read The Superhero Saga: How it Begun, you’ll know how Kate, Ellie and I received our powers. If you didn’t, we were mischievously prank calling neighbors, when someone whispered Missio Mequacko, and BOOM! We had our powers. Then, Ellie named us Triple Power.
Wind streamed in my face, as we flew outside. “Wait……. Who are we saving?” I asked. “Oh, yeah,” Kate said. She led us back inside. Ellie screwed up her face in thought. Then she ran downstairs for a minute, and emerged looking triumphant. “The bank was robbed five minutes ago,” she exclaimed. I gazed suspiciously at her. “How did you know?” I asked. “Television,” she answered. “Smart,” I told her. Kate, Ellie and I flew out the window, and headed towards our CIBC bank, on Main Street. The bank looked as it always was, but somehow different. Like someone was deflating it, or losing hope. I could sense the tension. “There!” Kate hissed, pointing at a man dressed in camouflage. He was holding a sack of money, or that’s what it looked like. We sped at lightning speed at the guy. He saw us, and gasped. “Y-y-you are….f-flying!” he half shouted. “You’re coming with us,” I declared. I swooped down, and scooped up the man. I grabbed the back of his shirt, and flew him over to the squad cars, the girls on my tail. “Here you are,” I said. I threw the man lightly on the policeman, who was interviewing a man. “How did you catch him?” asked the officer, completely shocked. “Who are you…. you’re flying!” the cop added excitedly. “Triple Power, we’ll always be here to protect these citizens,” Kate said. She gestured to the watching crowd that had formed. Ellie beckoned us to leave, and we flew back home. The people were running behind us, shouting “Thank you!” It felt really good to be helping people catch a criminal. We arrived at the window. It was locked. “No prob,” Ellie said. She pointed her arm at the window and lifted up it. The window slid upwards with her arm. “How’d you master that so fast?” Kate asked, clearly astonished. “Fast learning skills. Actually, I was practicing while you were scooping up that dude,” Ellie admitted. I stared at her. “Ignore,” Kate said loudly. “Come on, let’s practice,” she said. Ellie made the shades fall and the light click on. The steel board was brought out, and Kate shot some fireballs out. Ellie moved the board around, and Kate hit it like it was as simple as pie. I grabbed the board, and dodged a fireball. It hit the wall, burning a hole. “Oh no, Mum’s gonna kill us,” wailed Ellie the moment it touched the wall. “Jay, you… you…..” screeched Kate. Kate was lost for words. “Forget it,” Ellie said quietly. She lifted the chunk of wall in the air and put it back. She summoned some superglue from the closet and fixed it in a flash, but there still was a huge crack and black burn on it. “The picture!” I said suddenly. I was talking about a picture of Queen Elizabeth the second, taking a bath. Ellie and Kate’s Aunt Ivy had bought it for them, but they refused to hang it since they thought it was hideous. “No way!” Ellie half screamed, hysterically. “That was such a wrong picture!” Kate nodded, agreeing. “It’ll probably break from the weight,” Ellie pointed out. “I didn’t think of that,” I said. “Oh course,” Ellie said nastily. She summoned this time the picture. Kate looked regretful. “I know I’m going to regret this,” she moaned, but all the same she let me lift and attach it on. “Well,” I guess that’s today,” I said. And it was.
