The train chugged and whistled its way through the beautiful mountain countryside.

With smoke swirling toward the heavens, the train sped through the tunnel that led to the wide open terrain.

Tammie and her mother, Tommie, lived in a home located about one mile from the tunnel entrance. At 6 p.m. each evening, the mom and daughter stood in their front yard and watched the train as it sped toward a valley town 100 miles away.

Tammie attended kindergarten in the local elementary school. Miss Terrie, Tammie’s teacher, always allowed Tammie to share any news about the train with the class.

One day Tammie announced, “Miss Terrie, I have decided to give a name to the train that mom and I watch every evening.”

Miss Terrie asked, “What have you decided to name the train, Tammie?”

“I’ve named him Tiny,” said Tammie.

“Why are you naming him Tiny?,” asked Miss Terrie.

“Because of the tiny cloud of smoke he always is shooting into the air,” Tammie replied. “When I see the smoke, I know he’s happy and healthy and is having a great day.”

Miss Terri asked all the students to give an oral report to the class. Each child could select his or her own topic. Not surprisingly, Tammie talked to the class about Tiny. Tommie helped her daughter prepare for the talk.

The day for the oral reports finally arrived. Tommie, who made a lot of Tammie’s clothing, sewed a brand new dress for her daughter’s big day.

Tammie dazzled the class with her new dress, which was bright red. Miss Terrie asked Tammie why she chose red for the color of her new dress. “Well, red stands for the blood that Jesus shed on the cross for our sins,” said Tammie. “Also, red is the color of the inside of Tiny’s passenger cars.”

Tammie also dazzled the class with her presentation. With a sparkle in her eyes, she skipped to the front of the room.

“My mom and I have been spending a few minutes each day watching Tiny,” said Tammie. “He has such a wonderful personality. He always looks so strong and powerful. He always looks so happy to be rolling down the tracks. Sometimes I dream about Tiny. I dream I am talking to him and telling him how much Jesus loves us.”

Miss Terri and the students gave Tammie a standing ovation. “Thank you very much, Dear,” said Miss Terrie. “That was a beautiful speech.”

“You’re welcome, Miss Terrie,” said Tammie. “The main purpose for my talk was to make sure I mentioned something about Jesus. I figure Tiny is the best train a kid could have for a friend, but Jesus is the best friend in the whole wide world!”
