Crossed Love- Part 2
Born 1997, F, from St. Catherine, JamaicaChapter 5
“Your drawings are pretty neat” Devaun commented.
“Thanks” Haylie replied now obvious to the fact that she was late for Art class.
“I’m really sorry but I have to go now, I’m terribly late for Art” she continued.
“Mr. Finch?”
“Yeah he’s my art teacher”
“Cool, according to my class schedule I have him now” he smiled revealing a set of sparkling white teeth.
“Great, so I’ll show you to class then.”
“No problem” Devaun replied as he trailed behind Haylie.

“Omar where were you over the weekend, I called your phone like ten times dude?” Ryan asked as they walked to Phys. Ed class.
“Oh, the weekend… I spent it with Haylie”
“Haylie Green? As in the Haylie that we have Chemistry with?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong?”
“It’s just that you have been crushing over that girl since like forever”
“I know.. Well things took a slight turn” Omarion laughed softly.
“Good morning boys” They were interrupted by Mr. Bailey’s echoing voice.
“Good morning Mr. B” everyone replied resoundingly.
“On the court now!”
Basketball was the game for the day. Although Omarion played Basketball every morning, this was the game that he sucked at.
“Bradstone, you go over there today” Mr. B said gesturing to the Shooting area.
“Sir, I can’t shoot”
“It never hurts to try, so get your bum over there now!”
Omarion jogged over to the goal third and positioned himself. “Ready!” he shouted.
The game was in full swing and Omarion failed to shoot even one goal. “Come on Omar, just one goal, we’re kinda losing over here” Scott shouted out.
“You know that you can shoot as well, I’m not the only one with arms” Omarion retorted.
“Alright now boys, less squawking and more playing” Mr. B intervened.
A slight hitch of turmoil was rising in Omarion. Intense competition infuriated him, especially with surplus pressure, fury ignited his “gifts” and pressure made his blood boil. He fought to control his emotions but it was to no avail.
He closed his eyes for a brief moment and an image of Haylie in art class painting a beautiful Delphinium popped up. That was all he needed to calm him down, he placed his concentration on the ball that was coming his way, in a second the ball was in the net and Omarion was swinging on edge of the metal finishing on the net.
Cheers erupted from the class as Omarion jumped down. “What the hell was that?” Ryan mouthed to Omar. Omarion shrugged his shoulders in response to him.
“Didn’t know you had it in ya Bradstone” Mr. B commended. “Now all of you go and change, class is dismissed.”
Although his team lost the game, Omarion left class feeling like a winner for accomplishing something and discovering a new gift. 

Haylie was in her second period of Art. She had just finished painting her blue delphiniums.
“Excuse me students” Mr. Finch said while getting up from his desk. “ I’ll be placing you in pairs for this assignment. You are going to create a portfolio of five drawings on Surrealism, Realism, Abstract Art, Collage and Montage.”
“Mr. Evans seeing that you’re new, I’ll assign you and our best art student, Ms. Green, to work on this assignment.” Mr. Finch said to Devaun.
“Uhm, may I ask who is Ms. Green” Devaun hinted in confusion.
“My apologies, Haylie please stand”
Haylie sighed to herself as she drew back her stool and stood.
“Thank you Haylie, you may sit. As for the rest of the class you are free to put yourselves in pairs.”
Devaun went over and sat beside Haylie for the remaining minutes of class. She had a strange beauty that captivated him.
“Okay class is dismissed. Projects due on Friday” Mr. Finch rambled on as students scattered to the door.
Haylie and Devaun walked together out of the class. “So.. maybe we can meet this evening to start the project” Devaun suggested.
“Yeah sure, where?” Haylie asked.
“I just moved in town with my uncle and the place isn’t fully organized yet, so I was thinking your place maybe”
“Well no problem, I’ll see you at five then” she replied while writing her address on a paper. “So where did you guys move from?”
“Oh, we uhm moved from Beecham Heights”
“Cool, where is that?”
“It’s in Memphis, South America”
“Wow, really cool. So what about your parents?”
Haylie realized the sudden change on his face, “They uhm died when I was four, I’ve been living with my uncle since”
“I’m really sorry about that” Haylie said.
“It’s no problem, I’m a bit over it now”
“That’s good, so I’ll see you around”
“Yeah, see ya” he replied while watching her walk off.
As Haylie walked over to her locker she could feel Devaun’s eyes wandering on her. As she opened her locker a purple note fell, she bent to take it up. It was from Omarion, It read:
Not one second goes by that I don’t think about you.
I can’t hide what I feel for you anymore
My heart beats harder as my trembling hands write this note
I’m not a poet so I hope you like what I wrote
All I have to say is a riddle in three
In which I can be free…
There’s only 1 thing
2 do
3 words
4 you
I love you
<3 O.B
Haylie didn’t know what to say or what to do. Blood quickly rushed to her cheeks causing them to turn into a very bright shade of red, she turned around to see if anyone was looking or if Omarion was in sight. She closed her locker and read the note again, it was even better the second time, she couldn’t believe that her dreams were finally coming through. She would have somebody to love and to love her in return, just thinking about it caused a single tear drop to fall from her eye. Nothing could make her happier.
At a distance, Devaun saw everything. He had used his gifts to make out a few words from the note. He sighed as he walked away, “This is going to be harder than I thought.”
Meanwhile, Omarion was on the track field doing warm ups. Exhausted he sat on the field and closed his eyes, he wanted to see Haylie’s expression when she saw the note. A disillusioned image appeared with the tear drop falling from her eye, the image slowly got blurry then vanished. Omarion tried again but it didn’t work, he placed his focus on someone else, his mother, he saw her sitting at her desk at work rambling through files. So again, he tried on Haylie, it didn’t work. Fed up, he got up off the ground and continued his warm ups when a crumbled piece of paper flew and hit him in the face, he reopened the paper to reveal a note from Oranthion. Oranthion had sent a message to tell him not to worry about his new gift, everything is fine but mind visions do not work on the one whose heart locks with his.
Omarion now truly realized that he and Haylie were meant for each other and destined to be together.
Chapter 6
“Hey, where are you?” Jhae’ practically shouted through the phone.
“I’m not hungry so I’m going to the lazy benches” Haylie responded.
“Is Myra with you?”
“No, but I think she’s in the gazebo with James.”
Jhae’ sighed heavily, “Okay Logan and I will just eat lunch with Liam and the guys then”
“Okay, enjoy lunch Jheanell”
“I hate when people call me that, and you very well know that”
“Yeah, I know, Bye Jheanell” I laughed as I hung up the phone.
As Haylie walked outside to the lazy benches she saw Omarion on the field training, he looked so good in his gear and not to mention the sweat causing his toned skin to glisten in the sun… She smiled to herself as she sat down, she took out her notepad and pen and racked through her brain to find something to reply to Omarion’s note with.
After five minutes of some serious thinking she knew the perfect thing.
***
“Hey, you’re Omarion right?” A short girl with blonde curls asked.
“Yeah, may I help you?” Omarion answered.
“Someone asked me to give this to you” she handed him a small white envelope with a gold seal.
“Thanks” he replied while taking the envelope.
He went over to the benches and sat while opening the envelope, he took out a neatly folded decorated page that looked like it came from a diary or something. It read:
Written with a pen but sealed with a kiss
Here’s the reason why I write this.
Every moment I spent with you is like a beautiful dream come true.
Close together or far apart, you’re forever in my heart.
I may not have the prettiest face to look at or the skinniest waist to hold, but I do promise I have the biggest heart to love you with.
So I guess I’m saying that I Love You Too.
Haylie
Everything in Omarion’s body came alive in that instance. He felt power like never before, his heart was racing, his veins were pumping, his entire body was on the edge. There was no one else in the world that could make him feel this way.. He folded the letter and placed it back in the envelope and then into his bag, he felt like a huge burden was lifted from his shoulders. Haylie was his everything. He vowed at that moment to protect and love her with his heart, body, mind and soul.
Chemistry was the last class of the day for both Omarion and Haylie. All through class, they were engaged in their own chemistry, they were stealing glances at each other and smiling. The words that they had both been waiting for, “Class is dismissed” Mr. Myers said in relief, “and please remember to do your homework on page 43 in the concise.”
Omarion walked over to Haylie’s desk as everyone left the class, “Want help?” he offered.
“Thanks” Haylie smiled as he took up her texts.
They had small chats all the way to Haylie’s locker.
“So uhm, did you get my letter?” Haylie asked.
Omarion turned to her and smiled, “Did you get my note?”
Haylie put her books in her locker and turned around but she was now trapped in between her locker and Omarion.
“You are the most beautiful girl in the world” he said softly, “Your waist is the perfect size” he continued as he locked his arms around her waist. Haylie laughed because she now remembered what she wrote. Her hands travelled to his neck and bound themselves there. Time escaped them and they were alone in the hallway.
“So do you think that….”
“Dude, here you are, I’ve been looking all over for you” They were interrupted by Ryan. “Oh.. I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you there Haylie” he quickly continued as he saw the expression on Omarion’s face.
“It’s no problem, I was just heading out anyway” Haylie replied, “I’ll call you” she said to Omarion.
“Okay, don’t you want me to bring you home?” he asked.
“I’m gonna go with Jheanell and Liam.” She said while walking off.
“Alright” he now placed his attention on Ryan, “you don’t even want to know what I want to do with you right now.”
Ryan looked at him and laughed softly, “I’m really sorry bro, but coach wants you on the field, pronto..”
“Why?”
“Does the word training ring a bell”
“Oh, we have a meet next week, right?”
“Exactly, so on the field you go” Ryan said while pushing him out the hall.
***
“Why are you smiling like that?” Logan asked as Haylie stepped out of the hall.
“Smiling like what?” she answered.
“Don’t play dumb with us,” Myra teased.
“What’s up with you and Bradstone?” Jhae’ added.
“What do you mean? There’s nothing up with us” Haylie lied.
“In case you haven’t noticed, you are talking to us, Logan, Jheanell and Myra. Chica, we’ve been friends from the diaper days. We know you, you can’t lie to us” Logan pouted.
Haylie dug in her bag before answering them, “Okay, here”
“What’s this?” Logan asked.
“Just read it”
“Whoa! Is this guy for real..” Jhae’ shouted after skimming through the paper.
“OMG!” Myra exuberated, “I’m so happy for you”
They all rushed over to Haylie and had their “moment” with a group hug.
“What are you girls so excited about?” Liam asked as he walked over to the car.
“Haylie’s got a boyfriend” Jhae’ blurted out.
“Oh really, who?” he asked.
“Omarion Bradstone”
“Wow, congrats” he added.
“They’re exaggerating Liam, it’s not that serious” Haylie chipped in.
“Whatever you say Hayles, I know you too well” Liam laughed.
“Can we please just leave this topic and the school already” Haylie said.
They all laughed as they got in the car and drove off, they were best friends after all, Haylie couldn’t be mad at them so she engaged in the conversations also.
“How come you never wrote me any poems?” Jhae’ asked Liam.
The girls around the back began to laugh.
“Because my kisses are the lines of a poem and every touch is a redefining phrase” Liam boasted.
“Turning pages, seriously Liam that was so corny” Jhae’ added as she hit him on the arm.
“Yeah, that was really corny” Logan repeated.
“Why don’t you get a boyfriend and shut up” Liam retorted.
“Oh no, not again” Haylie sighed.
“Okay, Your lips are red, your eyes are blue, your kisses are sweet and so are you.” Liam rehearsed.
There was a brief moment of silence then laughter decorated the air. “Just forget it boo,” Jhae’ said.
“It wasn’t that bad” Liam replied under his breath.
“See you tomorrow guys” Haylie waved as she got out of the car.
She watched as her friends drove off before she got in the house. She threw her bag in the sofa and went to the kitchen, hunger was riding her. After she prepared a sandwich and some fruit juice she remembered that Devaun was coming at five. She ran upstairs, took a bath and got a change of clothes.
“Haylie, I’m home” her mom’s voice echoed through the hallow walls.
She ran downstairs to greet her mom. “I’m having a friend over” she explained to her mom, “we’re working on an art project.”
“No problem, I’m going to have a bath then I’ll start looking after dinner.”
“It’s okay, we’ll probably order pizza anyway”
“Okay, I’ll be upstairs if you need me” she added as she went up the staircase.
The doorbell rang and Haylie went to answer it.
“Hey”, she was greeted by Devaun with his sketch pad securely latched under his arm.
“Hey, come in” she continued, “any trouble getting here?”
“No, no trouble at all”
“Great, let’s get started then, but first are you hungry because I was thinking about ordering a pizza”
“Pizza sounds great,” he replied while helping himself to a seat.
They had been drawing and talking for about half an hour when the doorbell rang again.
“Must be the pizza guy” Devaun added.
“Yeah, we’ve been waiting long enough” Haylie said while getting up to answer the door.
Devaun watched her every move as her arms flexed to open the door.
“Hey” Omarion greeted as Haylie was now in full view.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” she asked rather excitedly.
“Just wanted to see how you were doing” Omarion said, his voice soft.
“Oh, I’m great” she added. “I’m working on an art project now but you’re free to come in if you want.”
“Is that the pizza guy?” an unfamiliar voice rang through Omarion’s ears.
“Who is that?” he asked.
“That’s Devaun, he’s new at school, he’s my art partner. You should meet him” said Haylie.
“Sure.” Omarion’s expression darkened as he saw Devaun.
“You’re not the pizza guy,” Devaun assumed.
“Obviously not,” Omarion hissed.
“Devaun meet Omarion, Omarion this is Devaun” Haylie introduced.
“Nice to meet you,” Devaun said with an outstretched hand. As Omarion shook his hand, he sensed something weird and dangerous. Suddenly, he had a slight vision of a bolt of lightning flashing through the sky. Devaun quickly let go off Omarion’s grasp.
“Haylie, thanks for having me over but I’m gonna get going now, we can continue at school tomorrow.” Devaun said through gritted teeth.
“Is everything okay,” Haylie asked a bit concerned.
“Yeah, but it’s getting late. See you tomorrow Haylie. Omarion, have a good night” he said while letting himself out. As he left the house, he let out a shrill cry in pain. He opened his palm to see a lightning bolt forming in his hand. Pain coursed through him, he ran off at light speed.
“That was weird,” Omarion said while sitting down.
“I know right, maybe you scared him off.” Haylie laughed.
“Maybe” Omarion teased.
Haylie laughed as she sat beside him. She rested her head on his shoulders, it felt great the way how their bodies connected. Omarion took up Haylie’s sketch pad and started looking through it, “you’re a real good artist” he smiled, “your sketches tell a story, they’re beautiful.”
“Thanks” she replied rather tiredly.
Omarion came across the painting of the delphinium, he remembered the vision today which made him also remember the letter from his father. He sighed as he continued flipping through the pages. His gaze lingered on one of her drawings. Haylie’s eyes flickered downwards and she realized it was the sketch of him.
“Wow!” Omarion breathed. “Is this me?” he asked analyzing the drawing. He ran his fingers along the outline of the sketch. He looked down at Haylie. Haylie looked up at him shyly. “Yeah, I know it’s pathetic”
“No it’s not, you’re incredible.” He replied while putting the sketchpad down. His face came closer to Haylie’s until all she could see was the sensational clarity of his eyes which were swimming in a pool of a shade of purple. His hands travelled along her red cheeks and then to her waist. Haylie’s thick black eyelashes swept down caving in the darkness in the center of her eyes. His hot breath traced the outline of her lips. Omarion’s mouth claimed Haylie’s as he kissed her with passion and love, their tongues danced together as the kiss deepened. Haylie’s hands found themselves in Omarion’s hair enjoying the pleasure of his scalp on her palms. Fireworks lingered in the air.
“I love you,” Omarion whispered against Haylie’s lips. Those were the only words she needed to hear.
“I love you too” she replied.
There was no need for any other words to be said as the silence spoke for itself. As Haylie opened her eyes, she felt Omarion’s fingers weave themselves in between hers. That moment was perfect, a dream come true.
None of them spoke, afraid that they would spoil the moment.
With enough courage Omarion broke the silence, “I don’t know if I’m asking too much but I’ve spent enough of my life fantasizing about you and dreaming about what it would be like to be in your life. So Haylie, I speak with my heart and not with my mouth… Will you be my one less lonely girl?”
Smiling, she replied “Nothing would make me happier.” Then she sealed her decision and the moment with one last kiss.
“I’d better get going now,” Omarion said. “So I’ll pick you up tomorrow, yeah?”
Haylie smiled, “Definitely.” He hugged her and she wrapped her hands around his torso and laid her head on his chest. There was a slight height difference but that didn’t matter because they were the perfect match.
“Goodnight love” he kissed her on the forehead before leaving. Haylie watched as he got in his car and drove off while sounding the horn. She smiled to herself and breathed in a breath of fresh air. Things were perfect, or so she thought…..
***
On the way home Omarion was stopped by two men who were blocking the road.
“Can you please excuse me?” Omarion asked.
“Can you please shut up?” the men mocked. Omarion put the car in reverse and turned around but he was surrounded by more men. He sighed and shook his head. He got out of the car, “What do you want?”
“Well, we want your money and the car” one guy replied.
“And suppose I said that you can’t have them.” Omarion responded with a dark expression on his face.
“Kid, don’t play games. We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
“I choose the hard way,” Omarion said.
“Be my guest then” the man laughed. A tall, thick guy approached Omarion while breaking his knuckles. “Game on.”
“You asked for it” Omarion murmured. He raised his hand and two barrels flew from behind the men knocking out two of the guys. The tall guy threw a ply of board at Omarion but it went straight through him and fell on the ground. “Is that the best you got” Omarion teased.
“He’s a freak” one of them shouted.
“I don’t care, kill that bastard” the leader retorted while pulling out a gun.
Omarion used his super speed to run around the guys and knock the gun out of his hand without being seen, he felt the blow of a heavy board against his side, he fell back slightly but quickly regained his strength. An army of punches and kicks were attacking him in every direction. He held out his palm and reversed the hit from one guy by bending his hand until there was evidence of it being swollen. He did a few air kicks causing several guys to fall to the ground. Quickly turning around, he came face to face with the tip of a rifle, his eyes concentrated on the mechanics and rays of laser shot out melting the metal to a boil. “Cool”, he uttered to himself. Evolving, he drew the energy from the light wires above his head causing a release of static electricity to run through the men. Using his mind movements he harbored a reel of hemp rope from the nearby docks. He speedily ran through the air tying the now unconscious guys together with one big knot. “Too easy” he laughed as he dialed the police station. He erased their memories and got in his car and drove off when he heard the sirens wailing.
