Aubrey, his wife, Audrey, and the couple’s triplets, Alyce, Allyson and Artie, had a special get together every April to decide on a location for the family’s annual picnic.

With all family members seated in a circle, Aubrey, the family’s patriarch, prayed for direction. “Father, we are gathered here in your name to prepare for our annual family picnic,” he prayed. “Please help our discussion today, and help us to make plans according to your will.”

Aubrey asked Audrey to pray. “Lord,” Audrey prayed, “help our minds to focus on you during this meeting. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

The triplets always - at home, at school, at church - spoke with one voice. “We wanna pray!,” they declared. “We wanna pray!”

Mom, dad and the triplets all shared there ideas about a location for the picnic. Aubrey asked Audrey to share her idea first. “I think we should have the picnic at the community park just down the street,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of fun times there with the triplets since they were born.”

Audrey added, “We had our picnic there last year, and it was a blast!”

“It was a lot of fun,” Aubrey agreed.

The triplets spoke up next. “We want to have our picnic at the fellowship hall at the church. That way, God will get to come. Plus, the temperature will be perfect, and there will plenty of chairs for us and our guests.”

Audrey suggested a vote be taken to see if everyone agreed on the location. Everyone had previously agreed that choice for a location must be unanimous.

As expected, each of the triplets voted for their idea. Aubrey voted for Audrey’s idea, and Audrey voted for her husband’s idea.

Aubrey counted the votes. “It’s a tie,” he announced. “After supper, we’ll vote again.”

Audrey prepared fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, and beets. She also baked two apple pies and two cherry pies.

“Wow!,” Aubrey exclaimed. “That was a fantastic supper, Honey!”

“Yeah, Mom, wonderful!,” echoed the triplets.

Everyone finished the meal with two slices of pie and a large glass of organic soymilk. “I’m so full, I couldn’t eat another bite,” said Aubrey.

Another vote was taken, and Aubrey announced, “Looks like we’re having the picnic at the community park.”

Audrey thanked her family for their votes. “The picnic will be super,” she said.

Audrey asked Aubrey and the kids why they changed their votes. “For me, it was the fried chicken,” admitted Aubrey.

“For us,” the triplets laughed, “it was the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, beets and the pies.”

Aubrey chimed in, “I may be the head of the family, but my sweet wife is the neck that turns the head!”
