Return of Lost Love
Born 1994, M, from KARACHI, PakistanTeenagers
My name is Nicholas Hunt. I live in New York City. I study in tenth grade of Bronx High School. I’m studying in this school as it has always given me happiness and joyful moments. My friend George likes girls very much and always tries to make girlfriends but has never made a single girl friend yet.
One day, while George and I were riding on my double pedaled-bicycle, we rode and stopped on a traffic signal,
‘Hey Hunt, look at that girl’ he said pointing a girl, who was walking on footpath, ‘Oh man she’s so…I’m going to get her number’
I continued riding my bicycle, and rode fast away from that girl, George asked angrily:
‘Why did you began riding while I was going?’
‘Listen we are just sixteen, and I don’t like this stuff’
‘Sixteen? I think we are close to the age of becoming adults. Just grow up Hunt’
‘I’m not having any childish plans, I don’t think that girl was that much pretty’
‘Then maybe your eyes need treatment’ he taunted.
‘Look I just don’t like this teenager stuff, I mean just look at teenagers around, they are just messing up everything around’
‘Listen this is the perfect age of enjoying life in dirty works’
‘I really don’t understand why do these teenagers spoil their parents name’
‘Spoil parent’s name? Can you please explain?’
‘Look at you, you smoke and whenever people see you they say it’s your parents’ fault, who never taught you right and wrong’
‘Who cares man? Just let it be’ he laughs.
‘You mean you don’t care if your parents are being abused?’
‘Ok I have to go home, let’s ride on quickly’
‘Changing the topic’ I said tauntingly.
I dropped him at his home and rode on but it was difficult to ride a double-pedaled bike alone.
A New Girl in School
Next day, as I reached school, I saw many boys standing together and talking as if they were drunk. I saw George among them, who came to me,
‘What’s happening George? Are these boys drunk? Didn’t anyone stop them?’
‘You’ve missed it Nicholas, there’s a new girl in school, Cassandra Leon’
‘Oh man come on, you can’t be serious’ I said getting annoyed.
‘Right now you can claim this to be a joke. But this girl has diamond eyes, fair skin complexion, and shining black hair’
‘That’s it? And seeing such a girl you all boys got drunk’
‘Her fragrance was actually addictive’
Getting more annoyed, I left him alone and went to attend my first lecture. I was concentrating on my teacher’s lecture, but my partner disturbed me,
‘Did you see that new girl Cassandra?’
‘No I haven’t and I’m not interested at all’ I said getting irritated.
Saying this I continued my focus on the lecture. I looked at Susan a good friend of mine and thought of asking her about that new girl Cassandra.
As the bell rang, the boys ran outside fast to see Cassandra. I went to Susan and asked:
‘Hi how are you doing?’
‘Good and you’
‘Susan tell me who is this Cassandra? I mean why are all these boys running after her as if she’s the first girl in school?’
‘Actually, she is sort of first girl in school, who is extremely beautiful and good looking even without any makeup’
‘I don’t get it, what is so exciting about her?’
‘I don’t know either, but she’s got very beautiful blue colored eyes. Her hair is also very nice’
‘Whatever, I just want to see her. I’ve got to see her today’
I talked to her for a while and then we left each other. I went to the cafeteria and sat alone. I was very anxious to see Cassandra. I didn’t like the way all boys were running after one girl, as I thought it was an unsafe situation for a girl to be in.
Love at First Sight
Few minutes later, while I was walking on the corridor of my school. I got a little tired and stood aside with a wall. While I was looking at my left, I was disturbed by a girl’s voice that came from my right,
‘Excuse me’ a soft and enchanting voice said.
I looked at my right and saw a girl with blue eyes and black silky hair. I saw that girl for the first time and understood she was Cassandra. I had never seen such a beautiful and good-looking girl. My heartbeat went faster than ever, and my body shivered as if I was feeling cold.
‘Please can you tell me where’s library’
‘L-L-Library is at room 23 of sec-second floor’ I stammered.
‘Thank you’
Saying this she went down stairs. I got really excited hearing thank you from her. I said to myself:
‘What’s happening to me? Why am I shivering so much? Oh man I haven’t seen anyone so beautiful. She has extremely beautiful eyes’
I thought about her for a while and a severe crush on her. I was actually in love. This was a love at first sight, and my first love ever, but I was unaware of this fact of being in love with her.
That night while I was having lunch with my family, I just couldn’t stop thinking about her. I was thinking of a scene as if I was riding on my bicycle with Cassandra.
Later, I went to my room and decided to write a poem of four stanzas for my love, the poem was entitled ‘My First Love’. I wrote it’s first stanza:
For the first time I loved someone,
Losing away life’s every fun,
After which I lost my hunger,
And want to bite my finger,
Because, this is My First Love.
I wrote three more stanzas of this poem and decided to give my poem for my school magazine. I was in love with Cassandra and I was thinking that this time George and other boys were not wrong. But I also realized that there were almost all boys of school after her, which was why I had no chance, but still there was hope.
Conversation with Cassandra
Few days later, during my lecture I was waiting for the bell to ring so I would go and talk to Cassandra. Few minutes later, as the bell rang, I rushed outside and waited outside Cassandra’s classroom as she was in a different section but same grade.
I followed her as she was walking away from her class. On my way I met my English teacher. Seeing him I stopped and gave him my poem ‘My First Love’, from my pocket.
‘Good Morning Sir, you asked for poems, for the magazine. So I just wrote this short poem’
‘Good, thanks we were just one number short according to our requirement and you have made it easy for us’
‘So when are you finally publishing this magazine?’
‘By first week of next month’
Seeing Cassandra going farther I left my teacher and ran after her. I saw she was walking all alone, so I rushed fast to catch my opportunity. She stopped walking and turned around towards me,
‘Excuse me can you please help me?’ she pleaded with a charming voice.
‘S-S-Sure my pl-pleasure’ I said confusingly as I began to shiver again.
‘I need 50 cents only, I’ll return you by tomorrow’
I gave her a dollar note from my pocket. My hands were shivering as I kept the note in her hand.
‘Are you suffering from cold?’ she asked seeing my hands, ‘Anyways thank you very much’
I thought of talking to her in order to make friendship. I was quiet shy, but still I was not to let this chance go.
‘So I guess you…you are new I guess’
‘Yes I’m new and I’m very much afraid of boys around who keep on staring me’
‘Oh that’s too…that’s too bad’
‘I feel very unsafe, I’m just thinking of leaving this school very soon’
‘Oh please don’t’ I said getting worried, ‘I mean don’t feel unsafe, no one would ever harm you here’
She smiled at me as I spoke nice words. Seeing me nicely, she left me and went farther away. I touched my heart it was beating very fast. I sighed:
‘Her one beautiful smile created a heaven for me…she thanked me, and told me how she feels unsafe. Don’t stop Nicholas, it’s your perfect chance to make friendship with her, just make her comfortable and defended with yourself’
I kept on motivating myself to make friendship with her. I was just feeling regretful of not telling her my name.
Cassandra’s last Sight
That night, my father and my mother called me alone to a room with my brother Jim. My father said to me:
‘Boys we have a surprise for you’
‘Really what is it?’ Jim asked.
‘We’re going to Germany to Uncle Thomas’ place’
Jim got very excited and I got very depressed. I didn’t wanted to go so I asked them:
‘When are we leaving?’
‘Tomorrow morning, what is it Nicholas, why aren’t you happy for this trip?’
‘I am! I really am’ I lied.
We all started preparing for our trip.
* * * * *
Now for three weeks I was in Germany with my cousins, but not enjoying at all. I was missing Cassandra very much and was afraid that she might make other boy friends or worse, she might leave the school and I would never get the chance of seeing her again.
As my trip was over, I went back home and prepared to see Cassandra at school. That night while I was sleeping, I couldn’t wait to see what was about to happen next day. I was afraid because I was feeling as if I was about to face a tragedy.
Next day, while I went to school, I searched for Cassandra everywhere in ground where mostly students were. I found her nowhere. I was quiet sad, but I had last place to search her.
I went to her classroom and finally found her sitting alone. Seeing her, my eyes felt delighted. I went inside and she stood up seeing me, and said:
‘Yes do you want something? Oh sorry, I had to return you one dollar’
She took out a dollar note and came towards me,
‘Where were you from so many days?’
‘Nowhere, just out for a trip’ I said taking the dollar note.
‘Did you see that school magazine?’
‘No I haven’t’ I said remembering my poem.
‘Anyways, today is my last day in this school’ she said giving me her hand to shake.
My heart shattered and I felt a thunderstorm on my head, hearing this from her. I shook hand with her and realized that this was her last sight ever for me.
Injured in an Accident
That day while I was attending my last lecture of the day, I was weeping out silently, but very loudly in my heart. I was looking at the dollar note, which Cassandra gave me. I talked to myself in my heart:
‘Nicholas your world is over…but before finally letting her go, just go to her and at least tell her your emotions for her or at least tell her that you love her very much’
As the bell rung, I stood up and immediately ran to her class. I looked around in her class and saw she was not there. I touched my forehead and asked a girl, who was passing by my side,
‘Where’s Cassandra? I’m in hurry please tell me’
‘Her father picked her one minute before the bell rang’
Hearing this I touched my hair and ran very fast towards the gate of our school. As I reached the gate, I stepped outside immediately and saw she was sitting on a Cab a little distance away from me. I got a little relieved seeing her. But as I went a little closer, the Cab driver started the vehicle and began driving. I ran towards my bicycle and hardly rode on it, as it was quiet difficult to ride on it individually. I followed the Cab and was very much heartbroken as I didn’t wanted to lose her without exposing my love for her. As I was riding wrongly, a big vehicle crashed me from behind, after which my body flew, and I fell on road. I was badly injured and my eyes only saw memory of Cassandra’s smiling face. Slowly, I felt unconscious.
Next moment, when I opened my eyes, I saw myself lying on a bed in hospital. My forehead and left cheek had bandages and my left arm was fractured. As I looked around, I saw my mother and father looking at me. My mother touched my forehead:
‘How are you Nicholas?’
I didn’t want to speak a single word, so I remained silent.
‘No more bicycle rides from now on. And why didn’t you put on your helmet?’
A glance of Cassandra’s face came to mind after which I closed my eyes and began weeping. My mother thought I was crying for losing my bicycle so she went away angrily. I wept for an hour and realized that I had lost my first love Cassandra forever, without even telling her my name.
Meanwhile, at Cassandra’s home, she was reading the school magazine. She opened the poetry corner, and read the second stanza of my poem, ‘My First Love’:
I’m ready to give up my life for her,
Making my clear and colorful vision blur,
I will not give up my hopes,
And shall tightly hold our connection ropes,
At least this much should be done for My First Love.
After reading my whole poem of four stanzas, she got very much impressed and said to herself:
‘Only a true lover can write this poem, but who’s the writer’ she said looking at the writer’s name, ‘Nicholas Hunt, I don’t know him, but he must have written this poem for someone whom he loved very much. And who must be the girl, to have such a true lover?’
After reading the magazine, she switched off the lights and went to sleep.
2 Years Later
2 years passed, I was in twelfth grade of my school. I had a half-inched scar on my left cheek, which was in impact of that accident. I was still in love with Cassandra; I had no picture of her so I just used to keep that dollar note, which she gave me, as her memory. I was passing my life in deep pain and stress.
Every night, I used to lie on a grass, and watched stars. I just wanted to forget her forever. Wherever I used to go, I used to see boys having girlfriends, this always made me feel how alone I was.
One day, while I was walking with George in the basketball ground, he saw my depressed face and said:
‘Look Nicholas, this has to stop one day. We all boys got sad on the day when Cassandra left. But of course we all forgot her, because there are many other girls around’
‘But no one is like Cassandra, right?’ I smiled.
‘Yes I agree, but you can not destroy your entire life for something you can never achieve, I mean you know she would never return’
‘I don’t know, but I love her and will only love her and no one else’
‘Oh man, it’s just useless to explain anything to you’ he said getting annoyed.
‘You boys were not in love with her, you all just wanted her for a better time pass girl friend’
‘Oh really? Anything else?’
‘And secondly, I lost her just because of you boys. You all just stared her with devilish eyes, which is why she left school. And my love story remained incomplete’
‘A love story which never started? And how do you know she left because of us?’
‘She told me’ I said firmly, ‘Because I talked to her nicely without any ill intentions’
‘I don’t need her personal thoughts, and I don’t know why we are talking about someone who has no sense of being discussed now’
Saying this George walks away and plays basketball in the ground with his friend. I walked the opposite way and left the basketball ground. I was just wasting my lifetime loving someone, who might never return.
After a while, George followed me and began walking with me. He said to me:
‘Well Nicholas, if you can’t forget her, trust me this is your true love and people say true lover always gets a second chance. I mean she’ll be back in your life again one day’
‘Thanks for comforting me, but I don’t believe in this stuff. You know people keep on saying it’s a small world after all. But I just consider this stuff to be a rubbish’
We kept on talking as we walked a distance apart. I was just aware of the fact that I had lost my first love forever. I thought my Cassandra would never return in my life, but maybe I was wrong.
Brenda Kay
Another year passed, and I made friendship with another girl Brenda Kay, who lived my neighborhood. She was a very positive hearted girl who always cared for others and thought about other’s feelings and emotions. She liked me very much. She always comforted me whenever I was in painful memories of Cassandra.
Since the day she came in my life, my stressful life got relieved and comfortable. But she couldn’t fulfill the emptiness of Cassandra in my life.
One evening, she came to my home and ringed the bell. I knew it must be her, so I went to gate and said to her:
‘I’ve been waiting for you Brenda’
‘Don’t worry; I’m here for you now. You wont miss Cassandra for two hours at least’
‘So grass or sofa’ I asked.
‘Grass of course, like every evening’
We went outside and lied on grass, watching stars. I looked at her and said:
‘So Brenda, any lecture for today?’
‘Nicholas, you’ve suffered from a tragedy in love. Do you know what do tragic lovers do?’
‘No, tell me please’
‘They find other people who are in love with someone. And when they find some people like themselves, they finish their love stories. Like they don’t let any lovers live an unsuccessful like them’
‘…I liked it’ I said after a little pause.
‘So you should now go and find lovers, and not let them have an unfinished and tragic love story’
‘Yeah Brenda’ I said hopelessly, ‘I mean, now there’s no hope of getting Cassandra back, so I can just give other lovers a better life’
‘Nicholas please, please don’t give up your hope. You never know, she might return one day. And secondly, staying sad like this will give you nothing more than losses in life’
‘Losses, what have I lost?’
‘You’ve lost your friend George’s company, he doesn’t give you time’
‘I don’t care, and this scar on my cheek irritates me quiet a lot’
‘Think of it in a positive sense, you can call it a gift from Cassandra or just be happy thinking you suffered pain just for her, that’s what signifies real lovers’
I smiled hearing this, Brenda always talked to me nicely like this and today she taught me to give happiness to lovers.
Love or Friendship
Few months later, I joined **** university. I was now eighteen years old and was now totally on my own. Before going to University, I had decided that I would make all lovers in college, coupled lovers.
Today was my first day at university, which didn’t go too well as usual. Today’s evening, Brenda came to my home and rang the bell. As I came out, I said:
‘Oh you’re finally here, come inside’
As she entered inside, she said to me:
‘Nicholas? Is everything ok?’
‘Yup, I was just missing Cassandra, you’re finally here…now I wont’
‘Look Nicholas, this has to stop’ she said getting serious, ‘Ok it’s fine that you don’t find me interesting, but at least you should have someone else to love. I mean go and find someone who loves you, so you and her can make a love relationship’
I began to walk and smilingly said to her:
‘No one loves me Brenda…except you’
She remained silent realizing I was right. She nervously said to me:
‘How did you know?’
‘I can read lover’s feelings and emotions through their faces’
‘Wow, you’ve learned to talk like me’
‘Brenda I don’t love you as you do, but I can give you what you want from me’
‘Thanks Nicholas, but I don’t want anything from you. You give me enough time to spend with you. That’s really too much’
‘Brenda you told me I should understand lovers and give them happiness, that’s what I’m trying to do for you’
‘But I don’t think we’ll be perfect lovers, because for me, our relationship is a love and for you it’s only a friendship’
‘Do you think there’s a different between a love and friendship?’
‘Yes Nicholas, I do think so’
‘I know as well Brenda; my feelings for Cassandra are far greater than I feel for you. But no matter if I wouldn’t love you ever, I would definitely give you what you want from me’
Brenda getting more nervous went to my room. I went to kitchen and made two glasses of soft drinks. Taking the drinks, I followed her to my room.
Return of Lost Love
Next day, as I went to my University, and didn’t attend my first lecture and went to the cafeteria. I sat with a guy of my age and shared sausages with him, I asked that guy:
‘Have you ever been in love?’
‘Yes at least eight times’
I chuckled realizing that he didn’t even knew what was love,
‘Why are you laughing?’ he asked angrily.
‘You’re going very well, keep going like this’ I taunted.
I stood up and began walking, as I was walking, I saw three girls walking away on the opposite side. One of the girls had a very silky hair. I felt for a while that she was Cassandra. So I walked fast to see whether that girl was really Cassandra or not. As I was walking fast, I tripped from my left foot and fell. The girls went away.
An hour later, I was walking with Frank, a new friend of mine. As I passed a group of teenager girls and boys, I heard a girl saying:
‘Ask Cassandra if she’s going’
I stopped immediately and asked that girl:
‘Are you talking about Cassandra Leon?’
‘Excuse me? Who are you?’
‘I’m sorry please tell me, is it Cassandra Leon that girl with blue eyes’
‘Yes it’s her, how do you know her? And what do you want from her?’
‘I don’t believe it’ I said getting totally shocked.
I got over excited and realized that it was return of my lost love. I just couldn’t wait to see and talk to her. I roamed around happily in my university and after a big time felt delightfully happy.
As it was off time, I went outside and stopped a cab. Before entering inside, I heard Cassandra’s voice from behind who was talking with her friend. As I turned around and saw her, I suddenly felt cold and my body shivered. My heartbeat went faster than ever.
As she went away, I headed to my home on the cab. As I looked outside, I got a little depressed and said to myself:
‘Brenda! What about her? I can’t cheat her…I mean I promised myself that I wont let her love story go incomplete’
As I reached home, I went to Brenda’s home and knocked her door. As she came outside, she left the door open asking me to come inside. I went inside quickly and stopped her by touching her shoulder,
‘Brenda, there’s something I want to tell you’
‘What is it Nicholas?’
‘Today Brenda’ I sighed, ‘Today it was a return of lost love’
‘Return of…you mean Cassandra’s back’
‘Yes, she’s my colleague’ I said in low voice.
‘That’s great Nicholas! You finally got Cassandra back’
‘Actually I don’t think it’s too great’
‘Why? Has she changed?’
‘…Brenda I’ll come at eight o’ clock’ I said after a pause, ‘I’m going home now’
Saying this I left her home, and went to my home. Brenda got surprised seeing my new behavior.
Friendship with Cassandra
At eight o’ clock, I knocked Brenda’s home. She came outside with my old school magazine. I asked her:
‘Why are you holding this? I mean were you reading this another time’
‘I wasn’t reading it’ she said opening it, ‘I just wanted to show you something which you wrote a time ago’
‘Show me what? Are you talking about my poem?’
‘Let me read this third stanza of your poem ‘My First Love’:
No Matter if she disappears from my sight,
Without any hesitation, I’ll put up a fight,
And make a perfect leading way,
Then I’ll find her back one-day,
I would struggle for My First Love.
‘Yeah so?’ I asked.
‘You haven’t struggled a bit for your first love according to your poem. And now when without any struggle you are getting her, you are not ready to be with her. Why is that’
‘How did you know I’m not ready for her?’
‘I can always read your face…what I mean is that God is giving you a second chance to express your love. This time don’t miss the opportunity, this time don’t be late…mark my words please’
‘But what about you?’
‘Look Nicholas I can’t come between you both. God has done this purposely for you; He wants you to be with her. This return of lost love is His blessing. He had actually put you in a game’
‘So how should I go and talk to her? I mean whenever I’m close to her, my heartbeat goes faster’
‘You just need a little confidence, just make friendship with her’
‘Ok I’ll do this tomorrow’
We talked a little for a while, after which we went inside and drank soft drinks.
Next day at cafeteria, I waited for her to come. I kept on telling myself that this time I wouldn’t get confused or nervous. After a while, when she entered alone at the cafeteria, I walked towards her and asked her:
‘Hi Cassandra’
‘Excuse me? Who are…’ she said, remembering my face, ‘Hey you know me, I think I’ve seen you before’
‘Remember Bronx High School’
‘Bronx High School…yes I remember, I asked something from you, and you helped me’
‘Yes you asked me for 1 dollar debt’
‘Yes I’m recalling it, but I never got your name’
‘Nicholas Hunt’ I said looking in her eyes.
‘Nicholas Hunt? I know this name’
I realized for a moment that she might have read my poem ‘My First Love’.
‘I’ve heard your name before Nicholas, just can’t remember where’
‘So are we…’
‘Friends?’ she interrupted, ‘Definitely, I like making new friends’
She gave me her hand asking for a handshake. I shook hand with her and remembered the last time, when we shook hands and I was upset at that moment. But this time, I was excited making friendship with Cassandra.
Life with Dirty Teenagers
That night, Cassandra invited me to her home, which was just at a stone’s throw distance away from our university. When I reached outside her home, I saw Cassandra with two girls, and two boys with tattoos on their arms. She introduced me to them, and we sat on a jeep. One of the boys drove the jeep very fast, more than speed limit of the road. I didn’t like this at all, so I said to Cassandra:
‘Why are you enjoying this? I mean why are you all breaking the law’
‘That’s how we enjoy every night, we live a world beyond rules and regulations’
‘Without knowing that cops are following us’
‘Oh no! Drive faster’ she said looking outside.
The boy drove faster and escaped the police car. We finally reached a point, which was legal but totally a vulgar and unsafe place. As we were about to enter inside, a twelve-year-old boy was riding his skateboard. One of the boys of our group went closer to him, and threw water on the boy’s hair from behind, after which the boy fell on ground. The boys elbow and knee got injured. The other teenagers of our group laughed, and enjoyed the scene.
Few minutes later, we were sitting inside the place. Everyone was smoking except me. I was sitting next to Cassandra. This was the moment I waited from a long time, but I was not enjoying and liking it at all. Cassandra looked at me and said:
‘Nicholas, why aren’t you smoking? And did you enjoy that boy’s scene outside?’
‘You are asking me how much I enjoyed?’ I said looking at her angrily, ‘Do you have any idea how much pain that boy suffered. How much his parents would be worried seeing their boy injured, do you ever realize this?’
‘Come on Nicholas it’s just for fun, like you know we do all this crazy stuff in this age’
‘And what loss others suffer because of you teenagers, have you ever realized it? Fun and enjoyment is not to be seen every time, sometimes you also have to see what’s going on with those, on whom you are making fun’
Cassandra remains silent for a while, and realizes that she was doing wrong to enjoy such a situation.
‘Look Cassandra, you must change your company. Few years back, you disliked boys staring at you and now you are openly roaming around with them’
Cassandra throws away the cigarette realizing she was really changed from before.
‘Look Cassandra, I know you are a better and a reserved sort of girl, so you just need to think a little about your previous life style, and change yourself a little’
Saying this I stood up, Cassandra looked at me and said:
‘Where’re you going? Please don’t get upset from me’
‘I’m not upset with you Cassandra. I’m just upset with your company, don’t mind but these teenagers like breaking laws and that’s what they have made you, a lawbreaker. Anyways, I’m going, see you tomorrow’
I left the place, and went to my home and saw Brenda waiting outside my home. I went to her and said:
‘Hi Brenda waiting for me?’
‘Of course, so did you enjoy your time with Cassandra?’
‘Um…actually not, I mean Cassandra, she’s totally changed, she has a really bad company like you know dirty teenagers’
‘Whatever did you tell her that you love her?’
‘No definitely not, I mean I was not in mood’
‘Listen Nicholas, this time don’t be late. You know how it feels when your emotions are not expressed at the right time’
I looked aside and nodded my head. We went to her home for a while, and later I went back to my room and slept.
Best Hour of My Life
Next day, while I had attended my first lecture, I went to library. In library, I sat alone and began writing on my personal diary. Cassandra came and sat on a chair next to me. Seeing her I immediately closed my diary and said to her:
‘Oh hello Cassandra! How are you?’
‘I’m fine, what were you writing?’
‘Nothing nothing, so how are you doing?’
‘Nicholas, last night I’ve been thinking about what you said. I really liked what you said, so I just wanted to say that, I’ll change and avoid those law breaking things’
‘Good, I mean that’s really nice of you’
‘And Nicholas, I really like you. You are a sort of guy whom I find interesting’
I got very excited hearing this, and said to Cassandra:
‘What’s your interest? I mean what sort of boys do you like’
‘I don’t like making just boy friends, I can only be with the boy who would really love me very much and would only think about me and no one else’
I was just about expose my painful love for her, but I remembered Brenda and realized that exposing love to Cassandra might break Brenda’s heart.
‘And Nicholas, how did you get that scar on you face?’
‘It was just a minor accident’ I said smilingly, ‘so tell me about your family’
‘My parents are quiet rude. Not rude actually, they just don’t like all this teenager stuff and don’t want me to do this’
‘So why do they allow you going with your friends at night?’
‘That’s because they trust me that I wont do this stuff’
‘Why Cassandra?’ I asked seriously, ‘Why do you play with your parent’s trust’
‘That’s what I used to…now I’ve left all this teenager stuff’
‘Listen Cassandra, your mother suffered great pain for you while it was your delivery. Your father sacrificed his interests and activities just to bear your admission in a high standard university. And this is how you repay them, by considering their trust a joke’
‘Look Nicholas I’ve changed now, please don’t make me feel guilty’
‘Oh yeah of course’ I said immediately, realizing I was giving too much lecture.
‘Oh I almost forgot, Nicholas I wanted to ask you something, I was reading the school magazine of our Bronx High School. Was that poem ‘My First Love’ written by you’
‘Yes I had written it’ I said happily realizing she had read
Return of Lost Love(SALAAR lAGHARI)

* * * * *
