Case 48
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesInspector Summer Brodie was sitting at a table at Conner’s Bar and Grill looking at the menu. Conner walked up to the table where Summer sat. “Are you ready to order?” asked Conner as Summer continued to stare at the menu lost in thought. Conner pulled out a chair and set down next to Summer. “You are thinking about J.P. aren’t you?” asked Conner. Summer set the menu on the table. “How could anyone give up their career and marriage for drugs?” asked Summer. “I don’t know, but of all the people I know Tina would have been the last person I would have ever thought of getting involved in drugs,” said Conner. “I just wish I knew how J.P. was holding up. He has always been the one that everybody looks to for advice at the Precinct,” said Summer. “Don’t worry about J.P. He will be just fine. Where is he at anyway?’ asked Conner. “They were short-handed at the 18th so they assigned JP to fill-in until they filled a couple of vacancies,” said Summer. Conner stood up and patted Summer on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, JP will be just fine,” said Conner. “I hope so,” said Summer with a sigh. “Wait a minute! You've got feelings for him,” said conner putting a smirk on his face. “I do not!” exclaimed Summer. Conner did not say another word but had a grin on his face. Summer looked at her watch. “I better hurry up and eat. I have to be at the television station at 1:30,” said Summer. “I guess they are going to interview about a case you solved,’ Said Conner. “No, Jennifer Musgrove has been receiving flowers and cards that have been signed anonymous. The station manager thinks that someone may be stalking her so me, Rebella, and Susie have been assigned the case,” said Summer. “Jennifer Musgrove, isn’t that the weather babe on channel 2?” said Conner. “Yes, and she is not a weather babe, she is meteorologist,” said Summer.
Summer arrived at the television station and met up with Inspectors Rebella Lucas, Susie Young, and meteorologist Jennifer Musgrove. “We are going to be working undercover. Rebella you will be going on air tonight and doing the weather. Jennifer is going to show you how,” said Susie. Rebella stood in front of the chroma key. Jennifer, Susie, and Summer stood to the side off camera. “Weather Introduction 5-4-3-2-1 and we are live,” said the cameraman. Rebella stood there and did not say a word as she had stage fright. “Do you have an extra mic?” asked Summer. Jennifer went and got another microphone and handed it to Summer. She started toward the chroma key. “Good Evening and welcome to Eyewitness News First Weather, I am Summer Broddie,” said Summer as the cameraman turned the camera towards her. “At the present time we are seeing temperatures in the middle to upper 60s across the area and in just a few minutes, we will have your complete forecast. Eyewitness News at 4 starts right now,” continued Summer. “And we are clear,” said the cameraman.
Summer was sitting at Conner’s Bar and Grill reading Weather Forecasting For Dummies. “What are you reading?” inquired Conner. Summer showed him the cover. “I am having to do some research as part of the undercover operation. Susie assigned me to be the on air personality while Rebella goes to different flower and gift shops within a one mile radius of the station to try and find some leads. Right now, we are not getting anywhere on the case. I just wished J.P. was here, he would have already solved the case,” said Summer with a sigh. “Look on the bright side, it is Friday. You get two days off to rest and if you want to you could go visit J.P. I worked some at the 18th precinct and their detectives work the same schedule as the Inspectors at the SID. Monday through Friday 8-4 and on call weekends,” said Conner. Summer did not reiterate on what Conner said but ordered lunch so she could get back to work.
Saturday morning, Summer was driving down the road going to Inspector J.P. Bullet’s house. “I can’t believe I am doing this,” said Summer to herself. On the way she kept rehearsing in her mind what she was going to say. She walked up to the front door and was getting extremely nervous. “You can do this,” said Summer as she pressed the doorbell. Inspector J.P. Bullet answered the door. Summer was nervous and did not say a word. J.P. invited her in. “I was worried about you, um no I was um - um in the area and um-um,” said Summer nervously, who did not say anything else because she felt like she was making a fool of herself. J.P. went and got his car keys. “Lets go for a ride,” said J.P.
“Sister, are you about ready to tell me what is going on?” asked J.P. as he was driving down 66th Street. Summer was still nervous but felt a little bit more comfortable talking. “Ever since you and Tina divorced I have been worried about you, so Conner suggested that I stop by your house and check on you,” said Summer. J.P. chuckled at what Summer said. “Sister, what have I always tried to teach you about following Conner’s advice,” said J.P. Summer thought for a moment. “Never listen to it,” said Summer. “Exactly,” said J.P. “Do you know why you never listen to Conner’s advice?” asked J.P. “Because nothing good happens and it turns into a disaster,” said Summer. “Precisely!” said J.P. They went to a coffee shop on 71st Street. Summer and J.P. talked about his divorce from Tina, what was going on at the 18th precinct, and the case that Summer was working on.
Inspector Rebella Lucas came into the detective office at the 469th Precinct. “I might have a lead in the case. Morton Nimrod has been going to Patsy Gifts and More, several times the past couple of weeks ordering flowers. I did some checking and Nimrod and Jennifer Musgrove went to school together,” said Rebella to Susie Young. “Harvey, you and Rebella go pick up Morton and bring him in for questioning,” said Susie Young.
Harvey and Rebella were fixing to leave when Field Commanding Officer Rachel McCabe entered the detective office. “Everybody hold up! I have an announcement to make,” said Rachel McCabe. Inspectors Harvey Lucas, Rebella Lucas, and Susie Young sat down to hear Rachel’s announcement. “I have selected Sabrina Lackey to replace Inspector Tina Bullet, also I want to welcome back Inspector J.P. Bullet who is now going to be operations commander.
Operation Commander J.P. Bullet came into the detective office. “Susie, please get me updated on the Jennifer Musgrove Case,” said J.P. Bullet. “Rebella got a lead in the case, that Morton Nimrod had been going to Patsy Gifts and More several times the past couple of weeks. I was sending Rebella and Harvey to pick up Morton,” said Susie. J.P. purposed a different plan.
J.P. Bullet and Summer Brodie climbed over a fence and carefully approached Morton Nimrod’s property from the front side; Susie Young, Sabrina Lackey, and Harvey Lucas climbed over a fence on the backside of Morton’s property.
Morton saw them on his surveillance monitor. He hurried to the roof of his compound where he had a helicopter. “Those cops won’t get me, said Morton as he got into the helicopter. By the time J.P. Summer, Susie, Sabrina, and Harvey made it to the roof of the compound. Morton was already gone in the helicopter. “Darn it!” shouted Susie. “Don’t worry about Susie, Morton is like all the others we chase. He will make one mistake and we will be ready,“ said J.P.
