Case 49 - Fake Money and Diamonds
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesInspectors Summer Brodie and Sabrina Lackey were enroute back to the 169th Precinct after finishing their lunch break. They heard Ola, the day shift dispatcher, dispatch a unit to 197 Forsyth Street regarding a stolen bicycle on the police radio. “Isn’t that just a few streets down from where we are at?” asked Sabrina. “Yeah, but most of the time we just let the patrol division handle cases like that, but since we are in the area, we will go ahead and back up Scotty,” said Summer. Sabrina picked up the microphone. “Dispatch this is 5-George 36, we are enroute to assist 5-Adam-18,” said Sabrina. Ola acknowledged they were enroute to the scene. While Sabrina took the report, Summer and Scotty looked for clues. Summer found a piece of broken chain with ink on it. She carefully placed the broken chain into an evidence bag.
Summer entered the detective office at the 169th Precinct. “J.P. have you got a minute?” asked Summer. Inspector. J.P. Bullet set a case file on the desk. He motioned for Summer to sit down across from him. “Me and Sabrina backed up Scotty this afternoon on a stolen bicycle case on Forsyth and I found this,” said Summer handing J.P. the evidence bag. “It is a broken chain with ink on it,” continued Summer. “Let me guess, you are thinking this stolen bicycle may be connected to the counterfeit money that has been showing up,” said J.P. setting the evidence bag on the desk. “I guess I was real dumb thinking the two cases were related" said Summer. “I don’t think you are dumb at all. Someone that knew what they were doing could take the parts of the bicycle and make a contraption that could make counterfeit bills faster,” said J.P. “Harvey, I want you and Susie to go look up our good friend Tony B. and see if he knows anything about a theft that occurred on Forsyth,” continued J.P. “We are on it, boss," said Harvey, getting out of his chair. Inspectors Harvey Lucas and Susie Young left the detective office. J.P. reached in his pocket and took out his car keys. “Let’s go for a ride,” said J.P. to Summer.
“Something bothering you? You have not said two words since we left the SID,” said J.P. to Summer as he was driving down Plaza Street. “Just a little confused,” said Summer. “About what?” asked J.P. “I thought you assigned me to the case but you sent Harvey and Susie to question Tony B. who could provide information about the case,” said Summer. “Watch and learn, sister,” said J.P. as he pulled into a parking lot. J.P. got out of the car and propped himself against the car door. “What are we doing?” asked Summer. “Waiting,” said J.P. “On what?” asked Summer. “You’ll see,” said J.P. looking down at his watch.
Tony B. was running from Harvey and Susie. He saw J.P. in front of him propped up against the door. “Oh man!” said Tony B. putting his hands up and walking towards. J.P. “Tony B. as I live and breath," said J.P. pulling the front seat forward so Tony could sit in the back seat. Harvey pulled up beside J.P.’s car. “Looking for this guy?” asked J.P. pointing to the back seat of his car. “Unfrigginbelievable,” said Harvey. J.P. laughed as he started his car up and drove off. “How does he always do that?” asked Harvey. Susie shrugged her shoulders.
“I am going to give you two choices and I don’t want you spending a lot of time thinking about it because if you do you will peeve me off and I will take the offer off of the table,” said J.P. to Tony B. as he was driving on 80th Street. “Here are your two choices, choice number one, you tell us what we want to know and I will take you home. Choice number two, you do not talk which will make me mad and I will take you straight to jail,” continued J.P. “I will take the first one,” said Tony B. “Smart choice,” said J.P. “What do you know about a bicycle theft on Forsyth?” asked Summer. “Look all I know is some guy with red hair and glasses put the bicycle into a black van and drove off,” said Tony B. “Does this look like the suspect?” asked Summer handing Tony B. a picture of Morton Nimrod. “Yes, that is the person I saw,” said Tony B.
J.P. and Summer were heading back to the Precinct. “Good job on connecting the two cases,” said J.P. to Summer. “Thanks, but I am still trying to figure out why Morton would need large quantities of counterfeit money,” said Summer. She continued to try to put all the clues together in her mind. “Wait a minute! I think I got it! They are going to be auctioning off a rare diamond. Morton is going to purchase the rare diamond with counterfeit money and then turn around and sell it!” said Summer with excitement.
J.P. was looking over the blueprints of the Greater New York Auction House. Inspector Rebella Lucas entered the detective office. “J.P. I know you are really busy, but I have some information,” said Rebella. “What is it?” asked J.P. “Constantine Saunders, Ted Stavely, and Barney L. Fatheringhouse are planning on stealing the rare 137 carat red diamond that is being auctioned off,” said Rebella. J.P. thought for a minute. “Here's what we are going to do. Sabrina, Rebella, and Harvey, you will get the underworld crooks; me and Summer will get Morton. Susie, I want you to stage outside with the SWAT Team in case we need reinforcement," said J.P.
Constantine, Ted, and Barney entered the Greater New York Auction House and took a seat waiting for the auction to begin. Then another crook, Stephanie Misdemeanor, entered and took the seat. Skinny (Morton Nimrod’s henchmen) entered the room with a brief case. “I don’t like the way this looks,” said J.P. The auction started and the first item being auctioned was the rare red diamond. Skinny had the highest bid. Skinny started to leave. “He’s got my diamond!” shouted Stephanie. “Don’t let that little pipsqueak get away,” said Constantine getting out of the chair he was sitting in. J.P. and Summer drew their service weapons. “Police freeze!” shouted J.P.
Skinny threw the rare diamond out of the window and Morton picked it up. “I am rich!” laughed Morton as he picked up the diamond and drove off. In all the confusion all the crooks escaped. “I can’t believe we let the crooks get away with the diamond,” said Summer. “They may have got away with a diamond, but they did not get away with the real one,” said J.P. taking the rare diamond out of his pocket.
