“There are many reasons why I don’t like hospitals. The rushing around, rushing between life and death, between living and dying. The fact that the speed that that nurse walks can determine how many years, months, days or seconds someone has left. It’s all a game, a building on the edge, playing against destiny, playing with your life.” My mind subconsciously drifts back to that, what you said all those weeks ago, as I sit on the cold plastic chairs waiting for the news. Always waiting, a game of waiting. I wish it was my go, my turn to make a move, be helpful; but I've played all my cards, only you and death remain. Gambling for your freedom, your life. When I was little and played with matches you always told me not to gamble my chances because you can never win against death. But now is the one time in my life I hope you’re wrong. But you’re never wrong and as I see the solemn face of the doctor approach me I know you were right again.
