Chapter One:
My house is a simple one, a decent sized log cabin on a back road. My parents are decent, at least sometimes I don't have to go out and hunt for a month to get dinner. My school is decent. My life is decent. Well guess what?! I'm sick of decent! All my life, I've wanted to be someone who stood out, someone who was better than decent. My whole world is surrounded by decent.
My name is decent, even! It's Brian. Brian White. See how decent it is? That's why I'm sitting in the science lab on a cold table in nothing but boxers and a white tank top, waiting for a scientist named Dr. Glade to give me my bionic shots. I want to be different. I've already been given my bionic chip, but I have no control over it. I can't trigger my "bionics" yet.
When Dr. Glade entered the room with a clipboard and a needle filled with a lemonade colored liquid, I let out a puff of relief. That was my injections. Dr. Glade set the clipboard and needle down a table, and saying nothing, pulled on a pair of white gloves. He picked up the needle and walked over to me.
"Okay, Brian." He said. "This is going to hurt." I held my left arm out, and Dr. Glade stabbed the needle into my wrist. I let out a cry of pain, feeling the injection run through my blood. Dr. Glade pulled the needle out and set it on the table, not a drop of liquid left in it. He yanked off the gloves and scribbled something down on his clipboard.
"How are you feeling?" He asked. "Woozy," I said. I gulped and squeezed my eyes shut, swallowing a wave of nuasa coming up my throat, then snapped them back open. "Can I lay down?" I asked. "Of course, Brian. You'll have to sleep for a while while the injections go to your brain." He walked over to a wall, pushed a button, and the wall slid open, revealing a room with red walls and a tan carpet. A fire roare in the fireplace. "Take a nap." He said. "You'll need it." I slid of the table and walked into the hidden room, taking in every detail. The ceiling fan was slowly circling, and there was a water bed in the corner by the fireplace. I could feel the sleepiness entering my head. I climbed on the water bed, on the covers, and closed my eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.
When I woke up, I was wearing some sort of black jumpsuit. It had silver stripes going down the sides of the arms and a chest plate strapped on to my chest from buckles at my shoulders. My pants were thick, like a climbers with pockets at about the knees, and the silver stripes. My black boots were velcroed, with a thick heel at least in inch. I stood up, and realized this is my Bionic Traing Suit. This must mean I have control over them now. I grinned.
"Good to know your awake," Dr. Glade spoke from a rocking chair I never noticed. "It's time to start your training." He stood up. "But, first of all, Brian, I have to warn you that you bionics will not be as you probably expected. Come with me."
We walked to a room across the hall from the lab I was just in and closed the door. The room looked like a school gymnasium, with basketball court lines painted on the floor. "This," Dr. Glade said, opening his arms wide in guesture. "Is the Bionic Training Facility." I kept looking at my wrist as if a had a watch on. My bionic chip implanted in my wrist had left a computer chip shaped scar under my skin, making a tiny bulge. It irritated me.
"This is we're you will live for the next three months of your life. You will eat here, sleep here, train here. This is home now." Dr. Glade barked. "Not one of my bionic students has ever failed to impress me, and you will not start the chain, do you hear me?" I gulped. "Yes." I said. "That's yes, Dr. To you son!" I stood up a little straighter. "Yes, Dr.!" I said.
Dr. Glade gave a tour of the Facility, the Training Rooms, the locker rooms, the Chamber Rooms, which just turned out to be the bedrooms with a fancy name. "Dr. Glade?" I said as we passed the boys locker room. "Will I get to meet your other bionic students?" I asked. "Oh, boy. You'll meet 'em some enough." He chuckled and kept walking.
I didn't actually start my training for another week. I was sitting at a bench in a hallway, staring at the bulletin board's notices, when I was attacked from behind.
The loud shout gave it away. When I heard it, I dropped the paper and turned to be staring at a group of ninjas standing at the other end of the hallway. They all seemed about my age. Then it hit me. This is what Dr. Glade meant when he said I would meet the other bionics soon enough, they were my first training attack.
A kinda tall one holding a pair of nun chucks was the first to charge. Swirling them around in the air, the boy? moved with such speed and grace, he was kinda hypnotizing. I was broken out if my trance when the swirling nun chicks slammed into my neck and sent me crashing into the wall. I recovered quick enough, though, to regain my senses and dodge the next attack. This was supposed to be a training session, but the only problem is that I don't know what my bionics are, so I'm kinda helpless.
What had Dr. Glade meant last week when he said my bionics are gonna be what a think they are. Then it hit me! Think! One of, or maybe my only, power(s) must be telekinesis. I scoped the area for ninjas. One attacking left. One charging right. Uh, oh. The ninjas slammed into other too quickly for me to understand what had happened. The I realized I was stuck to the ceiling. Another ability! I jumped down, but I didn't jump, exactly. I was teleported. Awesome.
"Hhhhhhaaaaaayyyyyaaaa!!!!!" One ninja shouted, charging me with a glimmering silver sword. I moved to the left, the spun around, raised my arm and slammed my fist into the ninja's back, making him crumple to the floor. I jumped, then I came down with my fist and slammed into the concrete, send up a wave of floor like a ripple, kicking up ninjas and making them run. Only five remained, plus the one on the floor.
One ninja had no weapons. Just a fist with a plasma grenade getting ready to shoot out of his palm. He ran toward me, jumped on to the wall and pushed off in one motion, then flipped in the sit And launched the grenade at me. I covered my body, not knowing of anything that could block it.
Ppppppsssssssshhhhhhoooo! The sound of energy hitting energy filled the room, and then a sound like two Lightsabers smashing together bounced off the walls echoing. I opened my eyes a saw as the blue force field I deployed cackled and popped with electricity. I uncovered my body and it disappeared. The ninja who had thrown the grenade from his hand lay on the floor, smoke rising from his chest. Everyone else had ran. I knelt down at his side and my eyes opened wide at the sight of the hole straight through his chest, smoke rising. The energy grenade went straight through him. I didn't even want to know where circle that got cut out went to. He lay motionless on the floor, eyes closed. I knew he was dead.
Suddenly bright lights like at a baseball park turned on, blinding me for a minute. "Excellent work, Brian," Dr. Glade said, slowly clapping his hands. You've discovered two out of twenty of you new bionic abilities. Three if you count your telekinesis. That, force fields, and Trasnportation Stick. That's a good one, very rare to have."
"Clear the dummies from the hallway!" A rough voice wrang out. Two men in neon green like construction worker came and carried the two ninjas out of the hallway. "Dummies?" I asked. "Training dummies," Dr. Glade said. First trick played on every new bionic." He chuckled and grinned. So did I.
Chapter Two:
School on Monday was brutal. Between practing my new bionics in the bathroom and trying to study for my English test in third period, and trying not to make it obvious I was hiding something, I was pooped by the time I collapsed on the couch when I got home. I used my telekinesis to pull the remote to the tv to me and flip through channels, then used my force field to block a surprise attack from my turtle when I was washing our his tank. Transportation Stick was hard. I couldn't find a good place to actually Transport, never mind Stick. I had to use telekinesis when the phone wrang and I was in the bathroom, and has a very embarrassing moment where my girlfriend Amy heard my peeing, so I decided to not burn out the energy.
When my mom came home from work, the screen door creaked open, then the front door popped, and she walked inside. "Hey mom!" I shouted from the couch, were I was levitating my turtle, just making him float there. It was amusing, I gently put him down and walked into the kitchen. "How was work?" I asked her. "Work." She looked into the family room, where she saw the turtle on the coffee table. "Why is you turtle on the coffee table?" She asked. "I was making him fly." I said. "Excuses, excuses." Mom said. "Potato patata." I replied. "Put him back." She said. I obeyed.
"I was thinking we could go to that pizza place on Weitmann Avenue for dinner tonight." Mom called from her room where she was getting changed. "How's that sound?" She asked. I was in the kitchen putting a microwaveable TV dinner in the microwave. I froze. "That sounds great!" I called back, throwing the TV dinner into the room where my dogs bowls are, Stricker attacking it the second it hit the floor.
I climbed upstairs to my room and changed into jeans and a white tee shirt. I pulled on my black sneakers and sat on the couch, waiting for moom . When she came downstairs, I got up, grabbed my phone and called best friend Dallas. "Do you want to come out for pizza with me and my mom tonight?" I said. "Sure," he answered. "Meet ya there." He hung up.
We drove for about fifteen minutes until we pulled up and into Grotto's Pizza. Dallas and his mom were sitting in there car. "Hey guys" I said. "Hey." Dallas said. We locked the car and went inside, sitting in a booth by the window.
We ordered our drinks, a root beer, a diet coke, a water, and an iced tea, and started talking and laughing. When the waitress took our orders, she was waiting for Dallas for tell her what he wanted, no one talking, I farted really loud and that sent them into a burst of laughter. We had a good night so far.
I was just about to take my first bite of pizza when the brick wall opposite of us exploded. Everyone screamed. Using enough instinct, I Transportation Stuck to the veil close to it, and watched as the lion people came barging through. They looked like lions, walked like humans, roared like lions, yet did everything else as humans. They roared, sending spot everywhere, vacating the area. I watched the scene from above, then saw the pizza oven. I held my hand out, lifting up one lion-man and sending him flying into the fire. Too easy. But that signaled the other lion-men and attacked. Claws digging into the ceiling, the chased after as I Transportated with Stick for the first time, getting mad. For some reason. I jumped up and stuck to the ceiling again, then did something totally crazy. Melted through. I went straight through the ceiling and into the shop above it, some sort of pottery shop. Some how no one noticed a fifteen year old kid melt though the floor and into the room. Well, at least until the lion-men jumped up and pounded through it, sending boards flying, people screaming. I tried something. I Transportioned to the ceiling of that shop, then melted through that one. Then the next one and the next one until....the honk of cars and screeched of sirens rang out as I reached the roof and grabbed on to the flagpole for balance.
I got down on to my butt and slid across the roof until I reached the rain gutter. Sticking, I gripped it and slid down like a fireman. I put up a force field and ran inside the pizza place. Grabbing mom, Dallas, and his mom and pulling them inside, I Transportated to the Bionic Training Facility.
