Killing Me Softly

Killing me softly

"The right of the husband is that when he calls his wife to sex she should not deny him herself."

It is also advised that whenever a man sees something that arouses his sexual desire, he should go and have sex with his wife.

I am the wife of an Imam (Islamic Teacher), a well respected and renowned Imam.

I am also a mother, a daughter, a sister, but not the woman i want to be.

The woman in me died, she was killed, by religion, by my husband, by the pressures of society. Every time i have tried to fight for my right, i am preached an extract from the Quran, or a Hadith, a saying by the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to shut me up, to tell me I am transgressing and sinning.

I have no voice, I have no say.

I am a woman and I know my Islam gives me rights, yet I live in a world which is ruled by my husband’s commands, his commands being the 'rules of Allah and his prophet'.

He beats me

He has sex with me whenever he pleases, I can never say no.

I am required to cover, completely, with just my eyes showing.

I cannot speak to any men, not even men within my own family.

I cannot leave the house, unless I am with him, but he says I have no need to go out as he provides me with everything.

I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister.............. i want to be a woman.
