Bella's first trip to the beach
Bella’s first trip to the Beach

Bella was a little girl who lived in the city. She had never gone to a beach as she lived far away from the sea. One day she saw on TV a program on beaches and felt it was a jolly place to go to!! Later, when she was speaking to her Grandfather over the phone, she told him all about the program she saw and how much she enjoyed it.

Now… her Grandfather’s house was just an hour’s journey away from the sea coast. So her Grandfather and Grandmother decided to surprise her with a trip to the beach. During her school holidays that year, when she went to her Grandfather’s place, they took her to the beach.

As Bella got down from the car, and saw the blue waves rushing towards the white sands, she jumped with joy, “WOW Grandpa!! It is so beautiful!! Look at those waves… I feel like swimming!!” she would have rushed into the water, but her grandmother held her hand tightly.

They together walked towards the beach. As they entered the beach, Bella squealed with joy. “Grandpa… a camel… see there!! A real camel!!” And yes, there was a camel there ready to give a ride to kids like her. She got on top of the camel, along with two other kids. The camel took her all-round the beach, as her Grandpa ran alongside with his camera. Bella felt she was on the desert like Princess Jasmine riding on her trusted camel.

Once the ride was over, she went with her Grandparents towards the waves. As the waves came rushing around her legs, she felt so happy, she thought she would just burst!!! They were such huge waves rising from the sea and breaking and swamping her feet. Her Grandmother took some water in her palm and told her, “Bella, taste this”. She tasted the water and her eyes widened in surprise. “Grandma, the water is salty!!” she said.

Meanwhile, her Grandpa had booked a boat ride for them. So with many others, they got into the boat and whizzed round the wide deep sea. Bella didn’t like the boat ride much. Her stomach was taking tumbles, and also it was a bit scary when they were so far from the shore. It looked as if there was water, water and only water around. She felt better when they were back on the shore safely.

But that was not the end of fun. Next, they picked shells!! Grandma and Grandpa showed her different colored shells. She collected shells small and big, and dropped them into Grandma’s pouch. She felt so excited thinking of taking them to school once she was home after her holidays.

They tried to play a game of ball, but the wind kept blowing the ball towards the sea. So then they decided to build a sand castle. That was really exciting!! All three of them together built a sand house and placed a stick on top as a flag. It was so much fun!!! They had a good laugh after placing the stick as a banner.

The three of them then sat on the sands munching on popcorn and cookies, watching the Sun set like a huge orange disc. She held her Grandpa and Grandma’s hands on either side and stood near the waves wetting her feet. As it turned darker, Bella saw that the waves were becoming bigger and were rushing towards the sand faster and faster.

Sipping her chocolate drink, she climbed back into the car. She was happy and relaxed as she watched the receding beach from the car.

“Ah! But I didn’t see any crabs, sharks or lobsters like on TV”, she suddenly thought. And then she leaned back smiling, “That’s for the next time.”

It was a beautiful evening for Bella, one she would always remember with joy.
