A Daughter's Story

Born 2000, F, from Brooklyn, NY, United States

As i walked into the room and closed the door behind me, it looked a little different, as if my dad had been in here. It seemed that everything was moved around. The first thing i did was check in my special box to see if my mothers locket was still there, which it was. I haven't seen my mother in years. I live with just my dad and this is the only thing i have of her, that's why it's so special. I don't know where she is or what she's doing.

Later that day i was talking to my dad and i was right, he was in my room looking for something, but then i finally asked him "what happened to my mom?" I could tell by the look in his eyes that he either wasn't gonna tell me or he was gonna make up a stupid story, so i can forget about all of this, but surprisingly he told me the truth because he said i was old enough. He said that when i was 4 years old someone rang his door bell and told him to take good care of me, he also said that she left me a note for when i get older.

I had told my dad i wanted to read it, but he said that all of this seems to be getting me all worked up and that if he gives me the note, things could get worse. He also said something about it being too much to handle. After a day or two, he thought i had calmed down a little, so he decided to give me the note. It read:

Dear Shyanne,

I'm sorry i had to do this but i thought this would be the best thing for you. Before you were born things just started to fall apart, and i couldn't give you what you needed. So i thought you would be better without me, i hope you aren't mad. I don't want you to think i didn't want you or didn't care for you, i just wanted you to live a good life with no problems. Oh and if you got that locket you can see that is me and you, i wanted you to have it so you can have a piece of me and i want you to carefully look in the back of the locket. What do you see? -Mom

After i read the note, i ran upstairs, and sat on my bed for hours trying to think of a way to find her so i can meet her, but then i remembered that in the note she told me "to carefully look in the back of the locket". I never really looked in the back of the locket and when i did, it had information about her. I then started doing research to see what i can find and one day it led me to this older looking house. I was really nervous because i wasn't sure if she was gonna like me.

So I took a deep breath and rang the door bell. A woman opened the door, asking me what i wanted. I then asked her if she was Jess Garcia. she didn't answer, instead she stared at me. minutes later she realized who i was and she asked me if i was shyanne. When i answered yes, she pulled me into her arms and gave me a forever lasting hug. She had me come in and we had a long talk about all that happened. I found out all the issues she had, that even she knew weren't good for her.

From what she said i knew she was in terrible shape, but now she is this beautiful woman that is almost recovered from her hard time. We also talked about ourselves, turns out we have so much in common.

It was getting late so i decided to head home, we planned many other days to talk and really get to know each other. The only thing is it's gonna take a really long time to build a nice and strong relationship with her. I hope everything works out.
