Big City Church and Little Country Church hosted their annual Vacation Bible School programs.

The VBS theme at both churches was “Adam and Eve - Created in God’s Image.”

Both churches believed and taught a basic church doctrine - that God formed Adam from the dust of the earth, put Adam into a deep sleep and formed Eve from one of the man’s ribs.

Each class at Little Country Church selected two participants to portray Adam and Eve for a special program on the final night of VBS.

Since Big City Church had more resources than the smaller church, it was able to provide a greater variety of props and visual aids. Little Country Church had a larger number of volunteers to help with its VBS.

One of the volunteers was known as the Monkey Puppet Man. The Monkey Puppet Man used a wrap-around monkey puppet to tell Bible stories. He used an interactive format to share God’s love with both children and adults.

During the VBS at Little Country Church, Monkey Puppet Man created original stories about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. “Those bananas in the Garden were very gigantic and delicious,” he told one class.

“Let me put it this way,” said Monkey Puppet Man. “I believe those bananas were much larger and more tasty than today’s bananas.”

Mitch, a young boy in one class, asked, “Did monkeys in the Garden of Eden eat only bananas, or did they eat other fruits as well?”

“I don’t know for sure,” replied Monkey Puppet Man, “but my guess is they also enjoyed eating blackberries, watermelon and grapes. I think their taste buds enjoyed a wide variety of flavors.”

During the middle of the week, Monkey Puppet Man visited Big City Church to conduct a special program. Both children and adults gathered in the fellowship hall for a time of fun and laughter.

Monkey Puppet Man asked a young girl named Margaret what she was learning about Adam and Eve. “I’m learning that Adam and Eve had a great life in the Garden of Eden,” Margaret replied. “They had all the delicious fruits and veggies they could ever want.

“And every day they got to talk with the Creator and have fellowship with Him. They could thank Him for creating them and tell Him how much they loved Him.”

Margaret told Monkey Puppet Man she would have enjoyed living in the Garden of Eden. “I would have enjoyed it all,” she said. “God observed that He had done a good job with His creation. And you just can’t improve on that kind of perfection!”
