Butterfly Affect

Butterfly Affect(Andrew Strauss) “Order in the court please” thundered chief justice John Lithgow... Eric's parents were gasping for air. Their only son had been found guilty of manslaughter for deaths of three other friends of his. The prosecutor and the victim's parents were celebrating.

Eric could not believe it, he remained stoic, he began to think about what happened two weeks ago, how could he, a graduate with so much going in his life, be arrested?!

What transpired this change for him? What transpired the butterfly affect which ruined his life, his family’s life.

Eric and three other friends went on a hiking trip... everything was so great. All four of them were enjoying the serenity, the four of them were not best of friends, eric was always a loner, but the three friends (I am not naming them ..lol) [Why are you not naming them? lol] were thick as thieves. They contacted Eric because of his superior hiking skills.

Around Mid-afternoon the four of them stumbled upon a Butterfly nest, the butterflies were flying in all directions. Eric joked that the butterflies were going to cause the Butterfly Affect. All four of them were 3000 feet above ground.

Be careful what you wish for is an old wives tale ... As the four of them were going down using a single rope, suddenly a gush of wind pushed the fourth friends off balance, he toppled on the third one and they slipped and fell on the second one.

In 10 minutes everything had changed. Eric was now holding the three friends who were going to fall down the Cliff to their deaths. They all were holding on to the Rope and Eric was having a tough time holding on...

Suddenly Eric noticed the rope was breaking due to the weight of the three people. Eric did not want to die, so he pulled the knife from his socks and made the decision; the decision which would haunt him for the rest of his life. He decided to cut the Rope... It took him 3 seconds to act on his thoughts but those three seconds felt like 30years. He slowly started cutting the rope, ignoring the pleas, cries of help, of his fellow men below him .....

“thats your cell” said the officer as Eric began his sentence away from his family.

He wondered and argued in the court, with the Press, with his parents, with the so called victim's parents... what should he have done?

1) Not cut the rope and die ?
2) He had a chance he took it.
3) Even the forensics agreed, that there was no way anyone would have survived if Eric did not cut the rope, below him.
4) He was thanking his lucky stars for “surviving“...

Eric also wondered, will the world also punish “Nature itself” , for turning against him ?
Or would it also punish his pathetic so called court appointed Psychiatrist who made a million bucks on Nancy grace and a book deal....
