"Oh my gosh, Laura!" Tanya screamed in my ear. "Steve Jack is here!"
She pointed at the classroom door and I saw my hot, sexy and school-famous neighbour enter the class.
"He always looks so cute." I mumbled and frowned.
I looked away and saw most of the girls staring at him and the rest, sneaking glances at him.
I used to be like them too. But now I'm just tired. Steve Jack is the only guy who I like and the idiot who would tease me and taunt me and torture me about my dressing, my clumsiness and my laziness. He would never say anything less idiotic to me.
"Eeeeeee!" Tanya shriek-whispered in my ear and squeezed my shoulder a little too tightly.
"What?!" I snapped, looking at her and slapped her hand.
Suddenly, as if my slap did some magic on her, she started setting her brown curls and wiped off some invisible dirt off her rosy cheeks.
I narrowed my eyes and then it hit me. Steve must be coming here to taunt me again. I sighed and sat straight.
I heard someone clear his throat and from the corner of his eyes I saw him.
"Lola?" He called me that stupid name again and I unintentionally frowned but I didn't move. I just sat straight and closed my eyes for a second.
When he saw that I was ignoring him, he went away and I smiled. Suddenly, I fell backwards. Letting out a yelp I threw my hands sideways, to grab something to save me from falling.
But I was still in my chair. I realised that Steve was holding the back of my chair and my chair was at an angle, less than 45 degrees above the ground.
I could hear laughter from all around. Rolling my eyes and laughing myself, I screamed his name to let me go.
After a while, he let the chair go and whispered in my ear, "I know you like me Lola." I couldn't breathe because I didn't know how he knew that. "I like brave girls who don't hesitate telling me that they love me."
"What the heck, Steve." I gave a gentle push to him. "Go away." I frowned and he walked away smirking.
*That night*
I was talking on the phone to Tanya about Steve.
"So you like him? Like, a lot?" She asked and I said yes.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his bedroom window and he came in. He took off his shirt and I frowned. I so have a crush on him. And I can't even get him.
"Tell him then." Tanya's words made me look away from Steve.
"I can't Tani. You know I can't." I mumbled.
"Just tell him and maybe he'll ask you out too. After all, he did say he likes brave girls."
She did have a point and I couldn't deny.
I talked a little more to her, talking to Tanya gave me courage. In the end I was ready to tell him.
"Operation 'Now-or-Never' start!" Tanya screamed and I laughed. "Good luck!"
I said thanks and goodbye and dropped the call.
Getting ready for the 'operation', I opened my closet and took out my best casual wear. Doing my hair the way I like, putting my make-up the way I liked, and setting my room the way I like, I pushed the curtains back so that Steve could get a clear view.
He noticed me and walked to the window.
Lifting his eyebrows he took a paper and wrote something.
GOING SOMEWHERE, LOLA?
I smiled and shook my head. I gestured towards him to wait a second and went to my drawer and took out my drawing pad. Taking a black permanent marker and opening it, I started writing. After I was done I showed it to him.
ARE YOU BUSY?
He shook his head and I wrote again.
I WANT YOU TO KNOW SOMETHING.
He smiled at that and wrote something. Lifting the paper, he showed me what he wrote.
I KNOW YOU WANT ME TO KNOW THAT YOU LIKE ME.
I smiled and nodded.
And his eyes widened.
I waited as he wrote something.
ARE YOU DRUNK, LAURA?
I laughed at that and shook my head.
I wrote.
YOU WANTED ME TO TELL YOU, SO HERE I AM. YOU READY?
He smiled and bringing his bean bag, he sat on it, showing that he's ready.
I smiled and wrote:
SOMETIMES I HATE EVERY SINGLE STUPID WORD YOU SAY
He raised his eyebrows.
SOMETIMES I WANNA SLAP YOU IN YOUR WHOLE FACE.
He sat straight and laughed at that.
THERE'S NO ONE QUITE LIKE YOU
YOU PUSH ALL MY BUTTONS DOWN
I KNOW LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU.
I lifted my head and showed it to him with a smile.
He had a video camera in his hand and I laughed.
AT THE SAME TIME, I WANNA HUG YOU
I WANNA WRAP MY HANDS AROUND YOUR NECK
YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE BUT I LOVE YOU
He had now the camera placed on the window sill and was staring at the words I had written.
AND YOU MAKE ME SO MAD I ASK MYSELF
WHY I'M STILL HERE, OR WHERE COULD I GO
YOU'RE THE ONLY LOVE I'VE EVER KNOWN
I smiled when I showed the page to him and he was now standing, looking at me with a shocked expression.
BUT I HATE YOU
I REALLY HATE YOU, SO MUCH
I THINK IT MUST BE
And at that he gave me a playful frown which made me laugh.
TRUE LOVE
I wrote in a pretty style with hearts.
IT MUST BE TRUE LOVE
NOTHING ELSE CAN BREAK MY HEART LIKE
TRUE LOVE
He was slowly shaking his head and laughing.
I frowned and dropped the drawing pad and crossed my arms, pouting.
SORRY, CONTINUE PLEASE.
He wrote and then held his ears and mouthed Sorry, which made me smile and I continued.
NO ONE ELSE CAN BREAK MY HEART LIKE YOU.
I added a sad face with it too and he held his ears again. That made me laugh.
JUST ONCE TRY NOT TO BE SO MEAN
I added a 'please' with that and he smiled, sitting back on the bean bag.
REPEAT AFTER ME NOW
R
I waited for him to write R and he did
O
He copied that too
M
He wrote an M
A
He wrote an A
N
He wrote an N
T
He wrote T with a funny style that made me chuckle.
I
He drew a heart on the I.
C
He wrote C and added a 'happy?' with it and I nodded, smiling.
WHY DO YOU WALK ME OFF THE WRONG WAY
WHY DO YOU SAY THE THINGS THAT YOU SAY
SOMETIMES I WONDER HOW WE CAME TO BE
I added 'classmates' in brackets after the last sentence.
BUT WITHOUT YOU I'M INCOMPLETE
I smiled and he stood up again.
IT MUST BE TRUE LOVE
NO ONE ELSE CAN BREAK MY HEART LIKE YOU.
I ended and smiled at him.
He took his pad and wrote.
YOU'RE DONE?
I thought about it and then shook my head. Taking the pad I wrote the last thing and showed it to him.
I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT I'M IN LIKE WITH YOU.
He laughed at that. And my heart beat became fast.
IN LIKE?
He wrote and I nodded. Panicking a little. What if he makes fun of me! I should have never confessed.
Picking the paper I wrote,
THAT'S IT, GOODBYE
I thought it would work, I pulled the curtains and sat on my bed. I felt like crying. But at the same time I felt lighter. I was happy that he knows now.
My phone rang and I attended the call without looking at the ID.
"Hey!" It was Steve's voice.
"Steve?" I asked, panicking a little.
"Yea, that was so..." He stopped and I closed my eyes.
"You don't have to say anything, Steve. Bye." I said and tried not to cry.
"Hey! Come back. I'm in like with you too." And his words made me sit straight.
"What?" I practically shrieked.
"It's about time you confessed, Lola." He laughed.
"I don't know what to say." I mumbled.
"I'm glad I made your video." He said and I smiled.
"Don't show it to anyone else, okay?"
"Why?" He asked, "You look so damn cute in that."
I felt my hands shake.
"Hey! I don't want anyone else to see that. Okay?" I exclaimed.
"On one condition." He said in the teasing tone I knew so well.
"What?" I sighed.
"Come to the window."
And with that he dropped the call.
I walked and drew the curtains and saw him smiling. He held out a paper.
WILL YOU BE MY GIRLFRIEND, LOLA?
I saw a smiley and I unintentionally shrieked.
He laughed and wrote something.
WAS THAT A YES?
I nodded and he showed me another already-written paper.
TOMORROW NIGHT, 8.
BE READY!
I nodded and with that, I pulled the curtains after waving goodbye.
True Love(Huffy)
