The Greatest Bank Robbery
The Greatest Bank Robbery

The year was 1962. It wasn’t quite summer yet but the plan was in place. One of the most daring plans to date and he has had many. He has escaped well deserved corporal punishment in the past. Maybe he was just misunderstood. Perhaps that’s what made this his best escapade ever. However, when you continue to get away, you become complacent.

He didn’t care who’s money it was or how it got there. He just knew it was there and his for the taking. There was however a couple of things in his way. How could he keep it a secret? Who could he trust? Family? Never! Friends? Not likely.

He’s been watching and planning this since late last year. He’s notorious for this kind of planning. Obvious a genius for so many master plans and seldom getting caught. Perhaps the authorities were watching and just waiting, knowing he was about to do the biggest caper ever in his life. Why would they? Maybe he’s just scared, there’s no way they could know what he’s thinking and planning.

The more he thought of it the more intriguing it became. He didn’t need the money. He has everything he could possibly need. It was just the excitement of the whole idea.

Was it a sickness? The first time he did such a daring act he was caught and the confinement seemed like a lifetime. That did not deter him though. Since then he has become so good at it that he just can’t seem to stop. What would it take to control him and his behavior. Professional help? Confinement didn’t work.

There was no way he could pull this off by himself. He had to put trust in someone. He thought of his younger brother, although not nearly as bright as him but he was loyal.

The day was finally here. He was ready to make his move. He had his dimwitted brother as a lookout. He went in unnoticed. He walked through the big room like he owned the place.

Then he made the grab, they ran for their lives. They made it to the nearby woods. Safe at last. They did it. So he thought. However they were seen but the idiot younger brother didn’t mention that fact because it was their sister who witnessed the whole thing.

They were busted! She couldn’t be trusted. After all, it was her piggy bank and she had been saving the five cents change every day from her lunch money since late last year, September.

School’s out, but not for me or my genius older brother. The authorities have found the perfect punishment. Hard Labor. I can’t believe our parents could be so cruel as to make us clean house and do yard work all summer long.

To this day, my brother still doesn’t know I told our sister about the great plan.
