The Jack Connor Chronicles: The Trading Card Caper
Born 1999, M, from Leeds, United KingdomThe Jack Connor Chronicles
The Trading Card Caper
I’m Jack Connor and this is when I became the Whiskerfield detective.
It was a rainy day at Whiskerfield Primary school, kids were playing, teachers were yelling and girls gossiping. There’s this trading card game called Gameotech which is very popular in Japan and everywhere else in the world. I’m not really into those kind of games. When I grow up, I want to be a detective, solving murders, and finding stolen jewellery. I’m a 5th grade student with my friend who also wants to be a detective, he’s called Thomas McGee, and we were walking down to biology when a burst of a high pitched scream shattered the peace. It was a 3rd grade student called Billy Boeson, he’s known around the school for having the rarest Gameotech card ever. “MY CARD IS MISSING, MY CARD IS MISSING, NOOOO!!” Billy screamed. Me and Thomas walked up to him and I questioned “What card?” he replied, “My rare card! It’s Kameyo, the rare card that I had and now it’s gone!” “Did you lose it? It could be in lost property”. “No!” Billy yelled. “I had it secured in my bag and I came to check on the card and I saw my bag was open, I felt around and it was gone!” “Calm down, do you know who took it?” Thomas questioned. “No! someone must’ve stolen it!” Billy replied. I look over to Thomas and he nodded his head. “We’ll find who took the card and return it to you” I said. Billy replied “Thank you!”
The second bell rang and we headed to biology. Me and Thomas were partners in Biology and we produced quality work. We wrote down what we had to do in our last lesson, which was cutting open a dead frog. Thomas whispered to me “We could be real detectives if we’re gonna find that card”.
The lesson was over and it was time for recess. We were questioning Billy for if someone had a “Grudge” on him. He talked and talked and he remembers his friend, Jim Jameson, who was the richest kid in the school who studied on Gameotech cards and always wanted the Kameyo card, but Billy got to the card first. Me and Thomas walked up to Jim, who was talking about his father buying a new Limo. Thomas yanked his shirt and dragged him into the janitor’s office, it was mucky and grotty and Thomas pushed Jim on to a chair. I circled around him like a vulture, waiting for the right moment. “What do you want?” Jim said menacingly, “Did you do something with Billy’s rare card?” I asked. “I don’t know what you mean” Jim replied. Thomas smacked him round the head and stared with eyes of fire, “Okay, okay I took it.” Thomas was going to yell until Jim said “But I sold the card to a 5th grader, I didn’t catch his name but all I heard was Frank”. Thomas pushed Jim and we walked out of the office.
Next lesson was a creative lesson, which we get to decide what job we want in the future and have lessons on it, only me and Thomas were in the class and Mr Farnswall strolled into class and said “So boys, what’ve you been up to?” I replied “We are solving a mystery and we have clues” “What are they?” Mr Farnswall replied, “All we know that this kid called Jim sold a card to a 5th grader named Frank”. Farnswall replied “Shall I consult the school’s archive and see who it is?” We nodded and Farnswall dragged himself to the computer and searched the name into the archives for a 5th grader pupil named Frank. “Here we go” he said and printed off a list that has 5 5th graders named Frank. “Ok you can take this and I hope you find that perpetrator!”
We questioned every Frank but one, the toughest kid in 5th grade, Frank Malloy, he’s beaten up 6th graders and is known for thumping a teacher! We sneak up to his locker and Thomas cracks the code. There we find the card. Suddenly, Frank tackled me to the ground and started punching me, Thomas dragged him off and threw a fist at his cheek, but frank countered and kicked Thomas in the stomach. I pulled myself up and pulled Frank’s leg under him and he toppled to the floor. “Frank, you’re on a detention for stealing property” I yelled. Mr Wickers clapped from out of nowhere “Great job boys, you captured the villain!” Me and Thomas smiled with excitement as he said “You can officially now be the Whiskerfield Detectives!” We whispered “Yes!” under our breaths. We walked down the hallway and Thomas said to me “how can we become better detectives?”
“As a great man once said... Elementary my dear Thomas.”
