It was noon and business was running slow as usual. Leaning against the glass casing which held an assortment of pricey watches, I went into a deep gaze. I thought of what exciting things my wife would have planned for me today. I had always admired her adventurous side since we were dating and to my surprise it continued up to this date and what makes it even better is she is my boss’s daughter. I have always gotten special treatment, such as expensive watches, for my birthday, promotions, hotel retreats for my anniversary, better pay, the point was I was getting superior treatment and I loved to see the envious looks on my co-workers faces. I knew they hated me but who cared, if they got in the way of my managerial hierarchy I would simply send out a letter to my father-in-law asking for them to be dismissed from their position.
A sudden stare come over me, it was cold and piercing and to top it off the nozzle of a gun was aiming right at my head. with a quick glance I observed someone with a black skeet mask and an overly sized hoody.
“Put it in the bag!” the distinguished voice exclaimed pointing the gun to the bag.
The voice was muffled under the handkerchief covering the persons mouth, I could hardly make out who or what the person said but whoever it was had a gun to my head and I wasn’t about to take any chances so without further questioning I opened the showcase and dropped the watches in the bag. minutes passed and the chaos was over, I ran over to the phone to call the police.
Wow, I thought to myself, they must have made off with over seven million dollars worth of jewelry. Mr. Bangerter sure isn’t going to pleased about this. I wonder who I should tell him is responsible for all this. Suzie? no she looks too incapable of such a crime. hmm, maybe Jimmy, he has been awfully rude to me lately, yet again in deep thoughts I felt a hand grip my shoulders and with a momentary look to see I saw Mr. Bangerter was standing behind me. He had a furious look on his face.
“Jimmy is the one who is responsible for all this!!” I blurted out “he has envied our wealthy family ever since he got here sir!!”
“Our Family?!?” he was bewildered by my statement.
“why yes indeed our family” I said puzzled.
He let out a hefty laugh; I wondered what was so funny.
“Oh! I see she has not broken the news to you yet!...well you see your wife, my daughter, divorced you today, she thinks you're too much of a wimp!… don’t you remember those papers you signed?!..well anyways I set this whole thing up and you are the culprit! I watched you just give away my money and then try to blame it on poor innocent jimmy! What kind of a man are you eh?!!”
I jumped up like a scared dog with his tail between his legs. I remembered those papers, that witch, I thought. This was a big set up. I knew it from the day I married Sophia, he hated me. I hissed my teeth.
“Get out, you're not welcomed! thank god I pushed Sophia to sign a pren-up!” he bellowed.
I walked away shaking my head. next time I will know to stay away from a coolie mans daughter.
