Don’t you love a full moon? I do. On a clear spring evening flying on my broom with the wind in my face and moonshine on my back is the best! Yes, I said broom; my name is Aurora Bloom and I am a witch. Not an evil one, but I do have magic, good magic. My magic is tied to the earth, so I can only use elemental magic. Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Nature; I can summon with a flick of my finger. To live closer to my magic I live in a castle in the Firstwood with my cat Akira. It an old castle made of grey stone that belonged to my ancient ancestor Iris Bloom.
Soon I would be leaving the comforts of my wonderful home and going to my parents’ castle for my family reunion. In my personal chambers packing a bag; ‘what should I take, Akira?’ looking at my huge black Maine coon. Walking over to my big wardrobe and opening the doors. In the cupboard were dark colours like black velvets and purple silks. I had many dresses in sizes and lengths, ‘what do I take?’ still dumbfounded. Quickly I reach in and grab the first 5 things I see. 2 are long black following ball gowns, another is a purple summer dress and the other 2 our mixed between the two. So I quickly pack them my bag; I quickly grab my coat and black witch hat. Yes, I know cliché living up to the witch stereo type. ‘Come on Akira!’ I yelled to her behind me. She meows and runs quickly to me. I go into the hall and into my study to get my broom.
With my bag attached on the side and Akira on the back; I hopped on and began my flight. It was a wonderful spring evening flying over Firstwood; the breeze was light and it was a clear sky. Flying was my favourite thing in the world, especially a long flight to my parents’ castle in Blue Cove. Soaring fast through the night sky I arrived quickly at my destination. Slowly landing in the well-manicured garden in the castle courtyard, I reached the ground. Looking around familiar grounds, I sighed. ‘It’s good to see you, Aurora!’ a feminine voice said behind me. Quickly spinning around I see, my beautiful mother, ‘hello mother’. She smiled, her purple eyes twinkling in the moonlight and blond hair bouncing off her shoulders. Akira jumped off my broom and I grabbed my bag, ‘come Aurora, everyone is waiting’ she said turning around to walk in the huge doors that were still open. I started following her with Akira at my side.
Walking through the halls, everything stills the same from my childhood; the decorations following a medieval theme. Gold and silver lining the walls, polished wood furniture in the hallways and rooms, grand tapestry with scenes of battles and countryside landscapes. ‘I will show you to your chambers and you can quickly change’ mother said looking at my travel attire. Walking silently for another 5 minutes, taking twists and turns we finally reached the western tower, my room.
‘You have new furniture in there but your belongings are still there, there is also a new cat bed for your little one’ my mother said a-matter-of-factly. I walked into my room and began to unpack my bag on my bed. ‘I will meet you in the dining hall and please wear something nice’ my mother said as she started walking way. My room was still huge with a bathroom, little lounge room and a huge canopy bed. The colour scheme was black and gold, my favourite colours. ‘I better get changed quickly!’ I muttered. Going to my bag I chose a black long strapless dress with a sequined lining around the sides. I also chose black high heels and my necklace of my family emblem. I quickly put my hair in a loose bun and finished with make-up touch ups. ‘Ready, let’s go Akira’ saying as I walk towards the door. Akira meows in response and trots beside me as I leave toward my impending doom!
I was nervous as I walk out of my western tower and towards the dining hall. I finally reached the door into the dining hall, I reached and opened the door and walking into the dark room. Suddenly everything came into light, ‘SURPRISE!’ yelled people in the now light room. It was my mother, father and brother and his damned cat. ‘What is this?’ I asked breathlessly. ‘It’s a party to celebrate the reunion of our family!’ my father said excitedly. ‘It’s your first one as a full witch, baby sis’ my brother Leo said slyly. He looked at me while he was petting his wretched beast Calloway. My brother had my father’s looks, dark hair and blue eyes. ‘Now that Aurora is here we can eat!’ my mother said quickly as if breaking the tension between me and my brother.
I sat down at the table on the opposite chair facing my brother; he gave me a cocky smile and put his cat on the chair next to him. Looking around for Akira I noticed that she was under my seat growling. ‘What’s wrong, little one?’ I asked her. I reached and picked her up and put her on my lap, which calmed her down. Then the maids started bringing out the main course, it was an assortment of breads and cheeses and roast meats with stuffing and vegetables. It smelled delicious, my stomach growled at the thought of it. A plate was placed in front of me and everyone began to eat. Dinner conversation was light, I was asked about my work in Firstwood and my study of elemental magic.
‘I wonder where your Grandmother is?’ my mother said worriedly. I looked at her across the table and wondered. ‘Maybe we should go look for her?’ I asked. ‘She was meant to be here hours ago, maybe she fell off her broom on her way here’. My mother looked worried and my father was a little pale. ‘I can fly on my broom over the landscape and look for her, if you like?’ I asked suggestively. ’Ok, here’s the plan, Leo and David search the land by foot; Aurora and I will go by broom and search by sky’. Dad and Leo muttered answers and got out there wands and we started the search for my Grandmother Alice Louise Raven.
In the sky I could see everything; I was flying over the forest surrounding my parents’ castle. It was all very lush with great tall trees and wild flowers that illuminated the night sky. The vegetation was very thick and very hard to see on to the forest floor. Looking in all directions looking for my poor grandmother, but I was giving up hope. But flying over a clearing of a meadow, east of my parents’ castle, I spotted a purple witches’ hat lay on a patch of moonlight. ‘That is my grandmother’s!’ I said to Akira. Quickly flying down to the clearing, I got of my broom and grabbed it. ‘Maybe I could do a tracking spell with the element Air’ I wondered to myself. I got my out and recited ‘the person that I have in mind, rewind so that I may find’.
Finishing the spell the hat started to glow and levitate through the air to the west. I quickly hopped on my broom and began to follow the hat. It was moving fast and through the brush, I had to keep up. The hat was slowing down near the base of an ancient oak tree. I could see broken branches on the surrounding trees and I found a purple slipper on the ground. ‘Where is she, Akira?’ I muttered. The hat suddenly stopped in front of the trunk of the ancient tree, I got off my broom and walked over to the hat. ‘The hat stopped here but Grandma is nowhere to be found’ I said to myself dumbfounded.
That’s when I heard giggling behind that tree; I tiptoed around the tree and was shocked of the person I found sitting down on a mushroom stool. ‘Grandma!’ I yelled in surprise. ‘Aurora is that you? I had a bit of tumble when flying to your parents’ she cooed. ‘Well it’s good to see you’re alright’ I sighed in relief. ‘I broke my broom on the way down, so I decided to sit down and have a cuppa’ Grandma said. I laughed at Grandma, she was the only one I knew who would have a cup of tea at a time like this. ‘Oh Grandma, I better send a magical flare to let the others know that I found you’ I smiled at her while she sipped her tea. ‘Spareus flareus’ I flicked my wand and with a flick of my wrist a red flare went up into the sky. ‘We better get you to the castle, Grandma’. ‘Ok but I just got to find my other slipper’ she said as she pointed to her naked foot. ‘Luckily I found this on the other side of the tree’ I reached in to my pocket and grabbed the purple shoe and gave it to my Grandmother.
We made it back to the castle safely and luckily my Grandmother wasn’t hurt. My family was relieved that we found her but from now on she wouldn’t be flying on her own from now on. My mother and father came to an agreement that Grandma would move in with them instead of having to fly from her home. I found out why Leo had been acting weirdly around me, he was going to give me a gift at the end of the night but because of the events that happened that evening I received it the next day. The gift was an ancient staff that belonged to my ancestor Iris Bloom and I also found out that with the staff came a title. From then on I would be known as Grand Witch Aurora Bloom of Firstwood.
Everything changed in my life at this point, I met my soul mate Alexander Dragon and had a lovely little girl named Ivory Jade…but that’s another story.
