THE BONEYARD
Born 1974, M, from Corpus Christi, Tx., United StatesTHE BONEYARD
By: Scott w.
"Terry, wake-up... it's time for school," his mother said, poking her head inside his room.
Terry got out of bed and went to the restroom to wash up when his friend Jared entered the room.
"Hey man, are you ready?" he asked, laying his board on the ground - reading the latest issue of Thrasher magazine.
"Yeah, give me a minute," Terry responded, brushing his hair and washing his face.
The boys were about to leave the house when Terry saw a note by his mother, lying on the counter.
"I have to take out the trash and feed the dog before I leave," Terry said, emptying out the trash can- replacing it with a fresh bag.
"Chowder," he called out, filling a small dog bowl with food and water.
"Good boy," he said, petting the dog's thick coat.
The boys left the house, skating down the street, when they came to a vacant lot.
"Didn't there used to be a curio shop here?" Terry asked, carrying his skateboard.
"Yeah, they had to tear it down because the owner mysteriously disappeared," Jared answered, wiping his sweaty brow with his arm.
"It sure is hot out here," he added, fanning himself.
"Let's cut through here for a shortcut to school," Terry suggested, starting through the lot as Jared followed cautiously behind.
They were startled a blood-curdling scream, coming from below the ground.
"What was that?" Jared asked, clinching his chest.
"I don't know, but whatever it was... it came from down there," Terry answered, pointing at a hole in the ground- taking off his backpack.
"What are you doing, let's go get some help," Jared pleaded, worried of what might be down there.
"If we leave, then whoever is down here will be dead by the time we get back," Terry whispered, putting his fingers to his lips for Jared to be quiet.
"Have you ever heard the term, curiosity killed the cat? ... you know that you're the dumbest friend I know," Jared shouted.
"I'm the only friend you know," Terry thought out loud, going down the hole.
In the darkness, Terry took out a lighter for light.
'It sure stinks down here,' he thought, putting his shirt over his face from the pungent stench of rotting bodies.
He shone the light, exposing the decapitated and decomposing corpses that littered the ground.
Terry felt something brush up against him from behind, turning to face a monstrosity of a creature with fiery yellow eyes.
The creature opened its gaping mouth, showing its razor-sharped teeth as saliva dripped from them.
"Terry, get out of there!" Jared shouted, holding out his hands to help Terry out of the hole.
Before Terry had a chance to respond, the creature impaled him with its fingers- taking out his heart as he fell lifeless to the ground.
"No... someone help me!" Jared cried out, thinking how to tell Terry's mother that he's dead.
