Once upon a time in a faraway land, there was a handsome king. The king had fallen helplessly in love with a beautiful and elegant dancer. He vowed to do whatever it took to be with her forever. He had tried to woo her with flowers and gifts, but to all those she denied his love.
One night, when the king was planning how to be with his love, he announced his desire to the moon. “I will make her mine and be with her forever!” He shouted to the moon. Then, a moth, graced with a soft lunar glow and beautiful wings, landed on his sill. The moth asked the king many questions about his dream, and to all these questions the king replied with the same answer. He went on about how beautiful and elegant and perfect the dancer was.
The moth then asked what the king would give up to be with the dancer. The king said that he would give up everything if it meant he could be with his lover. Although none could see it, the moth seemed to smile.
“Very well my king,” the moth said slyly, “I will grant your wish to be with the dancer.” In a flash of light, everything changed. The landscape outside was bizarre, but in a way, beautiful. The king asked the moth where he was and the moth simply said that he was in the dreams of the dancer. He said that now that he was here, he could be with her forever.
The king almost refused to accept this as reality, but when he saw the dancer outside he knew it was true. Everything he had, everything that was him, was gone from the earthly plane. He was trapped in the dreams of the one he loved. From that moment, he visited the dancer in her dreams, knowing that even if he made her love him, they could never truly be together. He still accepted his fate, and visited the dancer until the day of her death, when they died together.
