The Boy in The Wardrobe
Born 2000, F, from Leighton Buzzard, United KingdomIt was an unusually quiet evening in the Fern household. The mum, Jackie, yawned, took a sip of her coffee and looked at her watch. “Time for bed Charlie. Dad will be up in 10 minutes.”
Charlie, the youngest in the Fern family, unwillingly trudged up the stairs to what he called “The Den”. For a four year old little boy, Charlie was very vocal and he also acted older than he already was. Unlike many little boys, Charlie didn’t let his imagination run wild with thoughts that would put off his sleep. Even though Charlie didn’t let his imagination run wild, sometimes at night he secretly wished he could cuddle up with his big sister Grace because he was secretly afraid of the dark and what horrible monsters could be hiding in shadows.
As Charlie got ready for bed, he thought he noticed in the window, a face of a little boy creep silently into his wardrobe. Charlie thought it was because he was tired and also because of the fact that his hair might have reflected in the light as his hair was very shinny.
Charlie was already asleep when his Dad, David, came in to read him a story on aliens and also say goodnight. “Goodnight my little monkey. Well done for helping Mum and Grace today.” David said as he softly kissed Charlie’s forehead. As David left, he heard Charlie say, “Tell Mum and Grace I love them. I love you too, Dad.” What David didn’t know was that was the last time David would hear his son say “I love you”.
Charlie was settling into a dream about getting a new puppy, when he heard a loud bang. Charlie thought nothing of it as he thought it was his Mum and Dad ether taking the rubbish out or putting away the dinner things. Charlie went back to sleep.
A few hours later he heard a voice say, “I have come for you, Charlie. I am going to get you in your sleep. Goodnight Charlie.” After hearing that, Charlie leapt out of bed like a dog meeting its new owners.
“Grace, Grace!!” Charlie screamed as he ran across the landing to Grace’s room.
“What now squirt?” Came a muffled answer.
“Grace, open this door now! There is something, somebody hiding in my wardrobe!” Charlie cried.
“There is nothing in your wardrobe, but because I love you and because I am a caring big sister, I will see if there is anything hiding.” Grace replied in a soothing whisper.
Charlie hid behind Grace as she swept the room for possible hiding places. She found nothing.
“Happy now?” Grace asked.
“Yes, thank you. Goodnight.” Replied a sleepy Charlie.
Charlie went off to sleep. He heard no more noises apart from his sisters One Direction music blaring out of her door.
When Jackie and David went to wake Charlie up the following morning, they found his bed sheets all crumped up as if he had been in a struggle in his sleep. “Charlie, wake up honey” Jackie said in a worried voice.
“Charlie?” came Jackie’s voice in an even more worried voice.
“Jackie, you come and look at this” David said pointing at the wardrobe.
“No!! Charlie!!” Jackie sobbed.
David had found fingernail scratches on the inside door. They were from Charlie’s fingers. He was never seen again.
Ten years later…………
Grace, the big sister of Charlie, the snatched boy, eventually married and she had a son called Jack. On the anniversary of the night that Charlie was snatched ten years ago, the same thing happened to Jack.
Grace, Jackie and David, later found out who took Charlie and Jack. The person who took the boys was a little boy who was the same age. It turns out that Edward, the ghost boy, was snatched as a child in 1810. This is his way of revenge as he was not laid to rest in peace.
“We have come for you. We are going to get you in your sleep. Goodnight reader.” Came the ghostly voices of the three boys from inside your wardrobe.
Whatever you do, don’t go to sleep after reading this story tonight as they are waiting for you to drop off to the killer sleep. Keep your eyes and ears open tonight, you don’t know when they will come and snatch you.
