"Hey." I nodded over the table at him, secretly looking him over, making sure he was good enough for Cole. She normally had VERY bad taste in guys and I had to tell her whether or not they were treating her wrong.
"Hello." He smiled, he was confident that he would pass this test. But it wasn't that simple. He probably just assumed he could cheat, lie. This isn't an ordinary test. When you think the answer is B? It's A. You can't just circle answers. This is my best friend we're talking about. Not some grade.
But that's exactly what he's going to get. A grade.
He picked up his iced lemonade and reached for Cole's hand. "So you're Allie, huh? I'm Darren." He reached out the hand he had in Cole's but I quickly picked up my drink.
Suddenly, without looking up from her phone, Cole mumbled, "Allie. Bathroom." She got up quickly and looked at me under her bangs.
I got up and dropped a fry from my plate on the floor. I glanced quickly at it to the waiter nearby, she was too busy with the wailing baby which had interrupted almost all of my conversations. Suddenly, I was caught by the wrist and being dragged to the ladies room.
"Why are you being such a jerk to him?" She whispered hoarsely.
I smirked. "Don't want the same thing that happened last time to happen with him, do you?"
Cole's whole face dropped. "it won't. Darren's, different." She took a piece of her auburn hair and started twirling it in her finger"
"Whatever." I pushed the door to the bathroom open and let it slam shut behind me. I grabbed my already paid for drink from the table as Darren looked around.
"Where's Cole?" He sounded like a child looking for a lost toy.
I spun around on my heal. "In la-la land. Imagining the perfect guy actually exists."
