Robbing a Mother
Born 1975, F, from Colorado Springs, CO, United StatesThe biggest mistake that anyone can make is taking an adoptee’s child for whatever sick reason. When you do this it's as though someone breaks into your home & steals whatever it is that a person wants & makes it theirs. Some people have the Robin Hood mentality but in reality you are being violated by another human being & the only thing you're going to get back is revenge. An adoptee’s child is the first view of their relative. The first time that this person see’s their own flesh & blood. Don’t make the mistake of taking an adoptee’s child because in turn even God will turn a blind eye to your pathetic life.
It was a dark night & an older woman had just given birth to a odd looking child. This was her last of twelve children. She was an older woman in her early fifties & a florist by trade. Having to deal with another child was just not an interest for her but with her love she did what she had to do. At her apartment in the city of San Jose, she lived with her five youngest, the oldest were on the country side with their oldest siblings. At her wits end with this last one was just enough. She didn’t know what to do with this child. She was sickly looking refused to take anything but a mix of milk & coffee. The nights of her crying was just enough to drive any woman mad. She carried her two youngest to a local apartment building where she trusted a friend to watch her two youngest while she sold flowers on the corner of main street. One long day she came back to the apartment to find a strange man hovering over her two babies. This naked fat man was doing the unthinkable. The thought of this happening didn’t register. She was horrified. Screaming & attacking this person who threw her up against the wall. She was unconscious & bloodied from the attack. Without even realizing it her friend & the pervert left the place. She didn’t hear anything & went looking for her children. Dazed & confused she went searching the streets, going home to find her 15 yr old still at home caring for the other two school children. She went back only to get arrested by police.
There at the apartment there was a cry coming out of the laundry basket. The little girl no more than four months was screaming from the top of her lungs. Out of nowhere her three year old brother rescues her pushing over the basket. He looks around in the abandoned building to find anything that he can use to feed his little sister. After hours later faint cries come from the apartment. A nun shows up who was tipped off by her nephew that there were two children that had been abandoned by their mother. The nun brought the children to the local hospital. The little boy was treated & seemed to fairing well. The little girl was refusing any type of milk. The hospital was in a third world country & modern medicine was not available. After weeks of feeding the infant thru tubes she seem to gain half a pound. At five months old she was no more than four in half pounds. A scary thought for the doctors who thought they were going to loose her. But as her life unfolds realizes that maybe dying would have been a good thing.
A couple towns away there was a man & his wife who moved to the area from the US. They were working for a wealthy oil tycoon. He was hired the foreman for this ranch. His wife was raised in Colorado and not used to the strange people who didn’t speak English. Her mother had gotten her a good job at the local computer company but instead chose to marry & leave the comfort for her home. She was the middle child who felt as though she was hated by her parents. An older sister who was adored by her father & younger brother who was loved by her mother. She was the odd child who no one wanted. Part of a Dutch family perfection was the only acceptable form of love. After several failed attempts to become pregnant, the death of her oldest sister to cancer & moving to a strange location all attempts for a happy life for this woman came to a near horrifying event. As she thought about the sadness that her father felt for his favorite daughter & having no real relationship with her brother. Life just did not seem fair. With a gun in her hand she decided it was time to end it. A local Costa Rican woman noticed her with the gun & tears coming from her eyes. With no ideas of how to help this strange woman she threw two of her prized chickens towards the American woman with feed in hand. The American woman became so annoyed with the chicken’s loud annoying noises that within seconds lifted up her gun & shot the chicken. The local Tica backed up slowly with fear that she might try killing her too.
A couple of miles away a woman was brought into the police station with blood covering her head. The nun identified this woman as being the person who abandoned her children. The nun who’s nephew was the culprit for rapping the infant & almost killing the mother. The woman could not remember all the events that happened but remembered that her children were missing & the police arrested the mother. They dragged her away to an asylum only to die a year later so it was told.
Meanwhile the oil tycoon heard the story from a priest about the little girl. He had been donating to the Catholic church for years. At the same time the foreman who was working at the Ranch heard the same story. His wife had over five miscarriages & he thought that maybe this was the answer to their child issue. That night he approached her with an idea of adopting a child. She thought this was her answer. Since she couldn’t have a child adopting a child was the answer she needed.
At the hospital they looked at this child, with her green eyes, dark auburn hair & pale white skin. They thought this is what we need. The doctors felt that having both a mother & father would be the right answer. For as much of a happy occasion that this should have been it wasn’t. This small child even though she could not talk rejected the woman. Some how babies & children are designed with this little lock & if you don’t have the key, you will never be the right fit. At the farm the new mother could not figure out how to help the little baby. The woman who saved her life from committing suicide contacted her cousin who knew what to do. A key individual of quiet family members who were related to the little girl, but too poor to take the baby in as their own. At the time the baby was not healthy. The cousin made oatmeal milk that the baby took to gaining pound after pound until she was healthy enough to be raised by the American woman.
The little girl grew up fairly stable, there were terrifying moments when the American woman would loose her mind due to being undiagnosed bi-polar. She learned when she should be around & when she needed to hide. Most of the time the little girl would spend her time outside with her animals. She loved the horses, chickens, her bull that she spent a lot of time riding. Her dad would teach her how to be tough cowgirl. Stern but fair he would guide her both on the Costa Rican farm & soon at her new home in Amarillo, Texas.
Life was beautiful in Costa Rica & having to leave her best friend was a horrible memory. When moving to the states she had hoped that they would stay in contact but due to American woman she refused to allow her to respond to her chain mail because it was a waste of time. Destroying a precious connection that could never be reclaimed.
The years that followed were duck & roll years. The American woman found out she could have children. By this time three siblings had been born. The second brother had a disability & the adopted sister would do whatever it took to take care of her brother. The third child was the perfect child (Middle child) that the American woman made sure that this child got all of her attention or else. There wasn’t anything that she could do wrong. Being the ugly duckling with dark olive skin that was nearly yellow, the green eyes, bushy eyebrows, skinny legs & arms that nearly looked like a monkey along with elf ears, giant alien looking eyes with frog smile just wasn’t the idea of fitting in. The little girl was jembarrassed that she was not a blond with blue eyes, or that she had light skin. She didn’t fit in. Like her biological mother she was bone shy. She would hide under the bed from strangers because of the fear of not knowing how to handle three people let alone a crowd of individuals. There were horrifying moments when the American woman would push her out into a large crowd of church people & have her perform. There were so many occasions where she just wanted to crawl under a rock, I would never force my children to do such a horrible thing. Her dad taught her to tell the truth even if it sounded really crazy. Something you should never tell a child, because she told her trusted friends & family everything. Like when mom was sitting out naked under the sun while the ranch hands were doing yard work. Something she didn’t learn until she reached her late 30’s. Telling the truth only gets you in trouble like when you write it all over a legal document but when you don’t tell the truth you also loose. So your in a catch 22, dam if you do dam if you don’t.
This little girl learned at an early age was never to believe adults. They like the idea of telling you things so that you repeat them only to looked at as though you were stupid. Don’t ever trust an adult, they need to gain your trust, always go with your gut. If you ever felt like something in you said “HEY YOU” Get out of that situation. Then you need to trust yourself. Life had its good & bad moments for this little girl who eventually grew into a teenager. Around her thirteen birthday she happen to meet the woman who saved her. Her nasty remarks about her biological mother & her face caught the young teens attention. For as long as she can remember she had a nightmare every night of being suffocated. This person was hug, the smell of this individual & the exact same facial expressions of this individual seared into her mind made her realize that this woman was related to someone who did something horrible to the adopted teen. Its a scary thought to think that a child could remember something as early as being an infant. Although with the people she was surrounded by she learned how to suppress memories that might be used against her. She learned not to trust adults & also realized just how much her mother loved her in that instant. After leaving Costa Rica, Panama & Nicaragua during a outreach summer she had a talk with God. She had asked him for four children. The mistake she made was that she didn’t specify what she wanted or how to raise them or by who. The teen just said I want four kids & I hope I stay young. Don’t ever ask God to stay young looking. She got her wish.
