The Betrayal

Gunshots were fired across the littered street. Haunting screams filled the dusty air. Police sirens whined in the distance. It was too late though, it always was. Another life taken, another family destroyed by the gang culture of Jerome’s home.

When the police arrived fear struck the air as the killers were still on the scene. Agonising screams from the victim guided police closer to the scene. The gang scattered the moment they saw police arrive, with the victim left for dead. It was too late, another life take by Jerome’s corrupted mind. Ever since he joined that gang he had been out of control destroying his family’s relationship.

Two months ago he met his childhood friend Carlos for the first time in twelve years. Carlos was pure evil with a very persuasive personality. He managed to persuade Jerome to deliver a package to his associate Darren that night at 11pm. Jerome was easily persuaded, he hadn’t paid for the last three drug fixes and his dealer did not like to be cheated; the last guy was found in pieces floating in the sewer.

The next night the drop when according to plan, everything went smoothly. Carlos was pleased. He had now rebuilt his trust with Jerome and asked him to do several more drops the following week. Jerome was proving himself in the gang and had become very popular with the other members. For once Jerome had felt safe with his new family.

The same routine carried on for several weeks without getting his hands dirty. But that soon changed. As he was getting deeper into the gang culture he was finding himself put under pressure to eliminate any unsatisfied with their packages. Anybody he had been sent to kill just disappeared and if anyone asked where they were, he just pointed at the river.

Things were finally becoming a reality. All these murders happening in the neighbourhood was all Carlos, and soon Jerome would be just as evil.
Things quieted down for a few days until Carlos mentioned a big shipment coming from Mexico and Jerome was in charge of making sure everything went smoothly. Jerome had been in the gang nearly two months and already earned enough respect to take charge.

That night Jerome couldn’t sleep as he realised that tomorrow would see some kind of end. It was quite probable that he would be dead in just twenty four hours’ time.

The whole gang had arrived at the warehouse all heavily armed and ready to collect their shipment. What they didn’t know was that they were now surrounded by several S.W.A.T teams. As the gang moved towards the ship they were given one chance to surrender, but someone started firing back. The S.W.A.T team was well hidden and managed to take out most the gang. The warehouse was covered in rivers of blood with bodies scattered all over the concrete floor.

As the gang retreated Jerome made sure that he stayed close to Carlos as their numbers were lowering. Jerome and Carlos fell back into a small room as they heard the police closing in. Suddenly the door locked.
Jerome shot Carlos in the back of the head. He really had been friends with Carlos all those years ago and couldn’t bear to see the betrayal on his face, if he discovered that Jerome was really working undercover.
