"Follow me hurry!... Come on it's getting closer"! I heard Alex screaming at me but I was frozen solid standing in the middle of the path. Whatever was chasing us was getting closer increasingly fast and terror coursed through our veins. I felt Alex grab my arm and tug me forward and it shocked me back to reality. I began to run along with Alex and we reached a log that appeared big enough for both of us to hide in. We ducked down and hunkered through the opening. It wasn't the biggest but it was just big enough for us to fit through. We scurried to the middle of the log and then sat silently waiting for the beast to give up searching. We heard it approaching our area and we both held our hands over our mouths not wanting our gasps of air to be heard. Then we saw it... a large foot slammed down on the ground in front of the log opening. It looked to be a wolf leg but we swore the moan that came from the beast was one that was more of the big cat persuasion. The species of this beast at the time did not matter though, all that mattered was that it didn't find us! Alex and I moved closer in together hoping to become less visible to the animal. The creature paced around for a while and then left the area in a rage. We sat in the log for hours making sure the thing was definitely gone. Then I heard Alex mutter something in fear. His voice was muffled so I could barely hear him but it sounded like he said "babies". I slowly turned my head and saw that sitting next to us were four babies that looked to belong to the creature. They squeaked and squealed for their mother and all we could do was pray they shut up. Then we felt the log begin to shake. It rumbled and shook as it was ripped from the ground. We heard the roots rip and tear and within seconds both the log and us were thrashed into the air. We gripped the inside of the log as what we believed to be the beast whipped us around. Then with one good swipe to the side Alex went flying out of the log and smashed against a tree. His head bashed up against the tree and I saw the blood spew out from his skull and scatter across the area. I held on with all my might but it was no use. The creature whipped the log again and I was thrown out into the sky. As I flew higher and higher the world around me seemed to go into slow motion. I saw the beast on the ground below me with its head tilted back and it's mouth held wide open. Time slowed and the creature and death slowly got closer. Then it happened just as fast as I got into this situation. I fell between the slightly interlocking teeth of the beast and slid down his slimy throat. The small gleam of light that came from his throat slowly disappeared and then with a quick second it was dark and I felt peace......
