The Myth (PART 1)
Born 1997, F, from Banyumas, IndonesiaIt was Monday morning in Arjuna Senior High School. Let’s went in into a class which was filled up with students of eleventh grade with their exact class, a last class of exact. Eleven Four Exact. All students were sitting on their bench, making some group and talking about their own topic. But, all of them were talking about their own task. It was nothing instead of lie.
Suddenly, when peace and freedom stayed calm in their warm atmosphere, a girl interrupted and shouted in horrid as a monster was right behind her back. She ran harshly into one of groups in the class. She succeeded to make others attention. But, she was too frightened and too pale to realize about that.
“Yani?” one of the members of the group, Lisa, called. “What’s going on?”
“Seems like you’re being chased by a ghost...” said Sindi, the other.
“Hush!” Dhika, the other, whispered. “It’s a brand new weekday and you’re starting to talk about GHOST?”
“But that was what had happened!” suddenly Yani screamed.
All the group was suddenly shut their mouth.
“What do you mean?” asked Hilmy, the other.
Yani was trembling on her place. While she was preparing herself to tell them a story, the whole students were waiting for her.
“I met a girl in the locket when I was.... I was fixing my accessory and... she... she was passing behind me and... and she shocked me by... by showing herself... in the mirror... and she... she was horrible and... and she almost killed me... and... and I ran... and I was here... I’m alive... wooohooooyaah!!!”
“Locket?” Dhika mumbled.
“I think it’s a mirror... under the upstairs, in front of the locket?” asked Lisa.
“It must be your face, Yani!” suddenly a girl of another group, Elsa, interrupted. “Maybe you just don’t wake up from your nightmare yet.”
“No!” Yani yelled. “I have woke up! I’m conscious now! I’m not sleepwalking!”
“Oh Yani...” the other, Niken, interrupted too. “Wake up! It’s already millennium! We’re living in globalization era. You still believe on ghost? It’s just a fairy tale!”
“And this is morning!” the other, Wati, took a change. “Ghosts only show their selves at night, remember?”
And the three girls were laughing happily as they had put a tartar sauce on Yani’s face in order to give her a surprise party. But Yani didn’t like that.
“I’m wake up and I’m not crazy and the ghost is real!” Yani shouted angrily. “Someday you must find it out! Remember! You—“
“Yani, stop!” Hilmy yelled. “It’s still morning, remember?!”
“I don’t care!” Yani replied, still in angry voice and face.
“Oh guys, please shut up!” Sindi yelled.
“Ah! I just remember!” suddenly Lisa shouted cheerfully.
The others were turning around, taking a look at Lisa. But, suddenly they were frowning because her face was changing expression. She looked in horrid.
“Lisa? Are you okay?” asked Dhika in worry.
Lisa nodded. “I’m okay. But, something in the past makes me worry.”
“What’s that?” asked Dhika once again.
“About the mirror myth,” Lisa answered.
“Oh!” Sindi yelled. “That myth? I know!”
“Oh come on... what’s that?” Dhika asked with his big curiosity.
The group made a small circle—except Hilmy. He wasn’t interested at all. He chose to listen at the underground music in his cellphone via his earphone and moved his head upside down, back and forth.
“Like this...” Lisa started to tell the myth. “One day, a story told that there is a girl who dead in our school when she was standing in front of the mirror where Yani saw a ghost. And the girl was turning into a ghost. The myth says that the ghost was still wondering the cause of her death. It was still mystery, but some story says that she was killed by someone in this school.”
Yani gasped. “Oh my... So... The ghost I saw lastly is...”
“It’s just a myth!” Sindi shouted. “It isn’t real!”
“But I think it has a synchronization with our school,” Dhika interrupted. “6 years ago there was a death girl too. A story says she was a moving student.”
“Oh my God!” Sindi gasped, while Yani was starting to cry.
“My... So... It was...”
“Everybody go to your own bench!” suddenly a loud voice filled the air.
All students turned around at the door, and they instantly ran into their bench in hurry.
There was a big tall man with super thick moustache. He wasn’t young at all—some line on his face were rough and tough. He came with his white trouser and black pants, combined with shiny black loafers on his shoes. His sharp eyes shared a horrible sight into the whole class. Some thick books were on his hands. With loud sound of steps, he came in, while the students were holding their breath. It was Mr.Danto, their math school.
Mr.Danto put his books on the teacher desk, stood with his left hand stuck on it. His eagle eyes were looking around his class. No student lifted their head to face him. Everybody knew he was a killer teacher. His sharp tongue could kill all students in a class. That was why the class was so quiet, so cold.
“Do you know what time is this, huh?” asked Mr.Danto. “Why did you still talking and cheering while the bell had rang instead of preparing your selves to face the math?”
“We don’t hear it, Mister,” answered Lisa with a very soft voice. She didn’t lift her face. But, from 34 students in the class, she was the only girl who had so big braveness to answer Mr.Danto’s question.
“Where did your ears go, then?” asked Mr.Danto. “The bell rang so loud and you were busying yourself with your chit-chat? What kind of student are you?”
“I’m sorry, Mister,” Lisa answered.
“What have you talked with your friend, may I ask?” asked Mr.Danto once again.
But Lisa didn’t answer anything. The atmosphere began to be quiet again.
“Answer it!” shouted Mr.Danto. His blaming hand on the desk made everybody jumped from their place.
“They talked about ghost, Mister!” suddenly Wati answered with an out loud voice.
“Don’t joke!” Mr.Danto shouted once again.
“She’s right, Mister,” Lisa added with her soft voice as before. “By the way, is it right that there was a death female student 6 years ago? My friend is terrorred by that.”
“I say to not joking!” Mr.Danto shouted and blamed the desk once again, louder. He was angry this time, as there was something pushed him into the corner. He stayed quiet for a while, and then opened his book.
“Now, open your book page 66. Do the task. I’ll go for a moment,” said Mr.Danto, and then walked out of the room.
As Mr.Danto left the room, all students could lift their head and take some air with so much relieve. Lisa lifted her head with flipped face.
“What the hell!” Lisa grumbled. “I bet there is something wrong with his brain!”
“Don’t be like that, sister!” Sindi tried to calm down her bench mate. “He’s getting old. It’s normal.”
“Even my grandfather doesn’t as killer as that... my gosh...” Lisa still grumbled.
“Just be calm and patient, Lisa...” said Dhika. “Everybody has different temper. Remember that. Now, do the task, okay?”
And Lisa kept sealing her mouth.
---
Ten minutes later...
“I wonder what he does outside...” Dhika wondered. “It’s already ten minutes going, but he doesn’t come back yet!”
“Meditation?” Lisa answered.
“It’s better if we call him,” Sindi said. “My task has been done long ago.”
“Great!” Dhika exclaimed. “Let’s go! Oh, will you join us, Lisa?”
Lisa lifted her shoulders. “Whatever!”
And then Dhika, Lisa, and Sindi went out to search Mr.Danto. They visited the teacher room. But, they didn’t find him there.
“I think he’s going to somewhere...” said Mrs.Titin when the three asked her about Mr.Danto. “But, I saw him went upstairs few minutes ago.”
The three went upstairs through the stairs in front of the locket. It was the place where Yani met the ghost. But, the three ignore the mirror for a moment.
Finally, the three reached the top. Lisa was leading in front. But, when she was about to turn left to reach the library, suddenly she stopped. Automatically Dhika and Sindi, who were following by her back, almost pushed her out.
“What the jerk!” Dhika exclaimed. But, suddenly Lisa covered his mouth by her hand.
“Don’t be noisy, guys!” Lisa whispered with her pointing finger in front of her lips. “Mr.Danto is there!”
Dhika forcing pulled Lisa’s hand out of his mouth. And then, they took a peep to the balcony in front of the library. Mr.Danto was there, daydreaming while using his hand to handle his head. His eyes were emptily facing the sky.
“What is he doing?” Sindi asked in curious.
“Daydreaming?” Lisa answered, unsure.
“He’s really really weird...” Dhika grumbled.
“I’ve said there must be something wrong on his brain!” said Lisa.
“Lisa!” Sindi exclaimed.
“But it’s real! He’s weird!” Lisa shouted, unintentionally, out loud.
Instantly Mr.Danto got awake from his daydream. The three were gasped. Quickly they hid theirselves beside the wall.
“Who’s that?” Mr.Danto yelled.
Lisa, Dhika, and Sindi looked at each other, waiting for a command.
“Run!” said Lisa without any voice. And quickly they ran down the stairs. When Mr.Danto reached the stairs, the three were already disappeared.
---
Monday at school was ended by a cheerful ending bell. After the students packed up their things and stuffs, and prayed for their safety along their way home, they went leaving their class.
Niken was walking alone. She was busying herself with her smartphone. When she reached the locket, her attention was turned.
“Ah! What a coincidence!” she cheered. “I have to fix my hair do.”
And then Niken approached the mirror. She took her comb inside her bag and combed her hair slowly, prevented to not let any piece of her hair to not falling.
Few times later, when Niken was about to open her bag’s seal, she saw a strange shadow behind her. It was so dark, so unclear. She turned around, but she found nothing. She looked back at the mirror, and the shadow showed itself clearly that time. It was a girl with messy long black hair, totally pale face and skin with white trouser and grey skirt. Her eyes were dark, with cold and melancholy sight. Blood was spreading around the belly.
“Oh my god!” Niken exclaimed. “Who’s that?”
The girl didn’t give any answer. She just stayed quiet, and then disappeared.
Niken was so frightened. She could feel a strange cold win touched her back. Slowly she turned around to see what had happened behind. But, without giving her any chance to scream, suddenly as a thunder run down on the ground, the girl grabbed her neck and held it tight. Tight, so tight, as the girl won’t let any oxygen passed Niken’s throat. In few seconds, the girl pulled her hands back, while Niken was falling down with emptiness inside.
Not long after that, Elsa and Wati looked leaving their class.
“Where is Niken?” asked Elsa. “She had said to go home together.”
“Maybe she’s home earlier,” answered Wati careless while surfing on her Facebook.
“Impossible!” Elsa denied. “Uhm, by the way, please accompany me...”
“Where?”
“To the locket. I have to fix something.”
“Whatever. I’ll join.”
Soon, Elsa and Wati went to the locket. But, for their surprise, they found Niken was laid down under the mirror with pale face. Her eyes were opened emptily, her hair spread out.
“Oh my god! Niken!” both of them shouted in shock. They approached Niken’s body. Elsa put Niken’s head on her lap, while Wati took Niken’s hand in order to check the heartbeat.
“Oh no...” Wati gasped. “There’s no heartbeat at all... No heartbeat at all!”
Elsa’s eyes got widened. “No way!” she screamed. She checked Niken’s circulation. But, she got nothing.
“It’s no way!” Elsa screamed panickly. “She’s not breathing!”
Both of them were screaming. They were shocked to find the death of their friend. And they had no idea to do.
In the middle of the panic atmosphere, suddenly there was a sound of something light fell and knocked the floor. Elsa and Wati turned around, and they found a necklace with a little gold rose pendant not far from them. Both of them were looking at each other. Both of them said from their eyes, “Is that yours? That’s not mine.”
White was coloring their face instantly. They looked back at the necklace, and few centimeters from it there were flying feet. The nails were white; the skin was more white and pale. Slowly they lifted their face. And without given some time to take some air, their hair was snatched and their head were blamed onto the wall awfully. Blood was flowing heavily from their head as a waterfall in the mountain. Not long after that, the bodies were brought to an empty place under the stairs.
Some moment later, Hilmy was about to passed the locket when he was surprised to find flood of blood was filling the stairs room. He saw blood on the wall; he saw blood on the floor. He saw a trailmark of blood which was ended under the stairs.
“Oh God!” Hilmy exclaimed. “What had happened here?”
Carefully, Hilmy took a step over the bleed floor to not leaving any trailmark. He approached the trail-end—under the stairs. Suddenly he could feel all of his blood was sucked into his head as he saw three dead bodies under the stairs.
“My golly!” Hilmy screamed. “Elsa! Wati! Niken! What had happened to them?”
Hilmy looked around. He was wanting to search any help. But, the blood flood was drawing a restriction for him so he couldn’t move.
In the middle of the confusion, suddenly Hilmy heard a voice of a falling thin things. He looked around, and he found a same necklace with what Elsa and Wati had found. Immediately he approached the necklace, and he felt strange touched his skin. He lifted his face, and he screamed.
“Mamaaaaaa!!!!” Hilmy screamed in terror after he met a girl with horrible look was hung after him. The girl spread her hands out as she wanted to reach Hilmy. But, Hilmy knew this situation based on many horror films he had watched. Quickly he woke up and ran away to safe himself. After that, mysteriously the girl was disappeared together with the necklace.
