"Aahahahahha!” Kenneth Langley guffawed as he passed by, which worsened my already wrecked mood. Earlier that morning my car suddenly had a flat tire so I had no choice but to walk all the way to school. Some wannabe jock there missed his aim in throwing the basketball hitting my head instead. My peaceful journey to my house was interrupted when something in the sidewalk tripped me causing me to fall face first.
I got up with this sour look, ready to kick the stupid thing with all my power. The street was quiet except for Kenneth’s fading car. When my eyes finally located it, I thought twice about my next move. A small rectangular black box was laying there, a phone.
It was 4 pm in the evening, there was still enough time. I pushed on the start button and it showed there was no password needed. I swear i'm not a thief but I should help the poor guy or girl who lose it. The phone looked brand new, no music, no pictures and no messages. I thought there was no harm done in trying to get some information. As if hearing me, it rang loudly I almost dropped it. An unknown number was calling this phone. I panicked what if he or she thought me as the lifter. For the next few seconds I tried to calm myself that it was not my fault I found it lying there on the ground. So I hit the green button,
“Hello?”
“I found you.” The voice that answered was deep and husky somehow inhuman that sent chills up my spine.
“Excuse me?”
“You’ll see…” and he hung up. This person must be mistaking me for someone else. Or perhaps someone who had nothing better to do that he or she decided to prank strangers, haha yeah they got me. I was about to put it back where it ‘belonged’ when a text popped out, “Not a wise choice, Ava…” I immediately whipped around checking my surroundings, there was not even the slightest breeze of the wind. How did he know my name?
I opened the message for further explanation but what I read rooted me to the spot. He said that I was not in the position to ever leave that phone, i must bring it everywhere. Turned out he knew a lot of things about me, not just my name. He stated all the information about my family, connections, school, home, all my life. And of course things that were not supposed to be known by others, secrets that I was sure never be found.
Until then.

I ran as fast as my legs could carry it took only 5 minutes to finally reach my house. I unwillingly brought the phone back with me. This safe haven didn't seem to be really safe anymore because someone knew, HE KNEW! I quickly locked all the doors and windows then take three steps all at once to my bedroom.
Who didn't like me enough to do this? Why he was targeting me? But most of all, how did he know? Those were the questions that would haunt me that night. I decided to have a shower and started to prepare for the rest of the evening. The moment I finished eating dinner later on, that phone rang loudly, mocking me.
“Why did you do this?” I said.
“Huh?” an unfamiliar voice spoke from the other line. It was a boy, somewhere my age.
“Who are you?” I hoped this was not one of the man’s tricks.
“Who are you?” he asked back, genuinely confused. I looked at the caller, it was not from the man.
“I think you got the wrong number.” I said to him but then meet with silence.
“Yeah, you’re right.” He finally replied. He didn't make the attempt to say something else so all i heard was the sound of breathing which began to tick me off. So I ended the conversation.
The rest of the night was quiet with both my parents somewhere out of town. Time like this was when I felt the vexation I didn't have any siblings to talk to. So I decided to watch several episodes of ’Supernatural’ to ease myself.
I was just about to get to my bed when the phone vibrated signaling that it just received a text. It said,
“THE RULES:
-do everything I say.
-answer all the calls.
-no questions ask.
-never have any involvements with the police.
Fail in following them will result in the revelation of the accident and punishments you’d never dream of before."
This text didn't surprise me that much i guessed, seeing the situation when a person knows another person’s secret, why don’t use it for their own benefits? He had my card then and I had no choice but to do what he asked me to do. I put the gadget as far away from me as possible and lay in my bed, thinking that it would be the longest night of my life.
In the brink of sleepiness I just remembered that I forgot to lock the backyard door.
................................................................................
“So what do you think?”
“Huh?” I turned to Hannah, confused. That morning when I was in the middle of making my breakfast, I noticed that a dead rodent was lying under the dining table. I skipped breakfast then and the smell, it still haunts me after all this time. Well, I was pondering about how the heck it could get in when my best friend snapped her fingers in front of me.
“Are you even listening to what I said?” she said looking annoyed, then rolled her eyes when I didn't give her any answer.
“Okay, so yesterday I logged into my twitter account and then there was this shocking news when Carter, Hayes-“and I was saved by the bell.
“Talk to you later.” I said to her while running to my first class.
AP Calculus never failed in making my head hurt. I was on my way working through the second question when someone’s phone rang loudly in the silence. I just realized that it was ‘the’ phone when Mr. Martin was standing in front of my desk, offering me his palm. Many of you will think that a piece of you has been taken away when your phone is confiscated but in my case that was the first time i thought that all my pieces had been taken when I gave it to him.
“Miss Van Walden, you can get this possession of yours back at my office after the school hour.” I caught a glimpse of the screen, it was an unknown number. Just this morning I saved the man’s number with ‘x’ so I could identify that it was really him who called and to avoid misunderstandings like last night. However, the fact that it was not x still couldn't calm m nerves. A little voice somewhere in the back of my mind said he might change his number.
I observed Mr. martin put it in his drawer. There was no way I would wait that long to have it back. So I took out my own phone and sent a text without really looking at it,
“Han, distract martin after class asap, had my diary rn.”
Second period seemed like a millennium away when it was actually an hour. It will be such a shame if i have my secret revealed just because of a teacher taking the phone. Well at least he didn't check the message. It didn't ring for the second time and I couldn't decide whether it was a good thing that I would not hearing his voice again or a bad thing meaning he was on his way exposing it all to the whole world.
Criinnngggg!
Waiting to let all my classmates out first was pure torture. They walked too slowly for my liking and I still couldn't see where Hannah was. I was nearly at the front door when she finally fled in and whispered something to Mr. Martin, moments later they both immediately leave the class.
I took my chance and opened the first drawer. Dang, there were papers for the next day's exam, it took all my willpower not to take a picture of it because i knew at any seconds he might be back. I went to the second drawer and there it was! Without really thinking I quickly put it in my pocket, pushed the drawer close and got the hell out of that class. The screen showed that it was 1 hour and 12 minutes since he called. No other notifications.
I never felt that scared all my life. Mustering up all my courage, I decided to call the unknown number using my second SIM card which I bought for emergency.
“Hello?” it was just an ordinary voice, thank goodness it was not him. My head feel light all of the sudden, my secret was not revealed, well, yet. I immediately hung up and dumped the SIM card away. It was probably someone who got the wrong number, just like last night. My train of thoughts was interrupted when I saw Hannah running full speed towards me.
“You don’t know how much that means to me.” I said to her the moment she fell into step with me.
“Oh yeah, I told him that I saw someone was drawing in his car, you owe me big, A.” She said, smiling widely.
“Hahaha, yeah of course i do, thank you so much. I take it you’re the one who draw?”
“Duh.” She says smiling even bigger showing all her full teeth.
“What is it about?” I asked.
“See it yourself.” She answered laughing while entering her third period class. I waved at her and got to my locker. A piece of paper slipped out the moment I opened it. I picked it up from the floor and i swear my heart stopped for three full beats when i saw what was written in it.
“I’m watching your every move, love. Now, your first task…”
