Tri-muse : From Devil to Angel(Stefanny Djunawan) “Sci-fi? You mean science-fiction? No way…” said Edris Cuda while shaking his head.
“Why not daddy? There is this super awesome space rocket that could take me anywhere I want. And there is these Spiderman, iron man, and many other cool superhero man!” little Julian exclaimed and showing his father pictures from the superhero movie he watched.
“Everything is real now my little boy, the Spiderman is on progress. And if you want to ride the super awesome space rocket, I can make you ride one.”
Slowly Edris lift his son and sway to the right and to the left, up and down. Both of them were having a fun time together, laughing and playing. Edris may seem to be in a good mood but it was just a mask he wore. Edris was working on a big project where he have to leave his only son for a long time; Bermuda Triangle Mystery. Edris have devoted his life on time machines to find out the truth about dimensions. He has a theory that different time has different dimension, which is still a theory.
March 4 will be the day where he will find out about the mystery in Bermuda. Using the hi-tech machineries and also robots to accompany him to the ‘Devil’s Triangle’ as how people call it from time to time, Edris will be the first guy to ever dare to go to the triangle. He himself is scared to the fact that he didn’t know what will happen to him, but to fear is to lose.
He stepped his feet on the private jet provided by the government of USA. The flight will take 3 hours directly towards the Bermuda. Unlike before, the Bermuda Triangle was now covered with high stone walls and the lands near the area became arid. Local people no longer want to stay near the triangle due to the bad rumors about the Bermuda. All that could be seen is just dry grounds with ivy covered houses, no living only dead.
“Entering the forbidden zone. Radius of 5 kilometers from walls. Raising the height to 1000 kilometers above sea level. Please take your seat and put on your seat belt,” mentioned the robot.
Edris could feel his own heart beating faster as the pressure was increasing. He put on his seat belt and took a deep breath. This will be the first and the last – thought Edris. Only after a few second they were inside the Bermuda triangle. Edris monitored through his laptop. Nothing happens. The plane passed the Bermuda and makes a turn. The plane, again, is in the triangle. Nothing happens. They tried passing the triangle again and again but nothing happens. Until such time they gave up and decided to go back.
On the way back, Edris discovered that he neither have to signal to the satellite nor the airport. The robot is no longer working. That means that no one is taking control of the plane and the plane is moving itself. He didn’t want to change anything and decided to go with the flow. When he sneaks to see what’s under, he saw a metropolitan area. He landed the plane on the airport, took his camera and went out. On the way to the building, he discovered that he is wearing a watch on his left hand; the clock was dead; pointing at 3 year 2014. As he get in the building, everything inside was very simple and everything works manually, except for computer.
Then a lady came towards me and said, “Excuse me sir, can I help you?”
“Where am I?” the first thing that I want to know.
“Airport sir.”
“No, that is not what I mean. Where am I? What city? What country?”
“We are in Los Angeles.”
“Los Angeles? I know LA and airport in LA is not like this. There should be more numbers of robot and machineries rather than human. This is not LA.” Edris was confused and went away from the lady.
When he saw the watch again, it is working. However, it’s working anti-clockwise. Edris was even more confused and startled. He directly went back to his plane.
“What the hell is happening, clock ticking backwards, everything works manually.” He tried to think and guess what’s happening, “the past! No robots, everything works manually; 2014 – a year. But what about the clock?” his face is calm although he is thinking hardly. The plane automatically brought him back to Bermuda. He passed the Bermuda once, the twice, thrice, and he was dumped again in another place.
When he saw the watch, it is now 2 - 2567. It’s the future. Right now, everything is dry land. No plants, everything is brown. And land cracks everywhere. There was a group of people; they no longer can be identified as people, they were just bones. All their faces were full of desperation for water, for food, for wind, for living. The sun strikes them like boiling water. Edris could feel the hotness of the earth, even he is sweating. He didn’t dare to go to the people and directly leave the place.
The plane repeated the action it did before and went to another year of the earth. Now it’s 1 – 2109. ‘Three’ thought Edris, maybe it’s just a coincidence. Right now, the world is more beautiful than it is in year 2567, although there are only a few trees and more industrial buildings and factories’ smoke is filling the air. When he saw the watch, its working but still not normally; 02 49, 02 48, 0247. Edris went out of the plane and try to see the world in the past.
Everything is working just as it is in Edris’ life, although it is almost 30 years apart. He is now more familiar with the world and the way it works. Now, he realize that he haven’t eat for hours, maybe more than 4 hours, since he didn’t get the chance to keep track with the time. He found a restaurant and ate; luckily the currency and money use is still the same. He pulled out his only $30 from his wallet to the waitress. When Edris saw her face, it was his mother. Edris suddenly goes pale white and directly ask the waitress.
“Are you Magdalene?”
“Pardon? Oh yes.”
He’s right. It’s his mother. How pretty she is – Edris thought. He never had the time to spend hours with his mother since she sacrifices her life giving birth to Edris. Before he went out, he went back to his mother and said, “Thank-you.”
When he saw the clock, it is 02 05. Suddenly he feels sick, really sick. 02 04 - He can no longer breath, his guts are burning, he ran. 02 03 – he coughed out blood, but he didn’t stop. He kept on running towards the plane, just a few more meters. 02 02 – everything is blurry; he cannot hear or sense anything. 02 01 – he almost reached the plane just a few more steps. Right now, he is not running, not walking, but crawling. He steps in just right in time its 02 00. He has no longer the strength to walk or crawl. The plane is taking off and Edris collapsed.
When he woke up, he found out that he fell asleep in the plane on the way back. The robots were still in the control room and he is still on his seat with the seat belt on. But everything seems real to him. When he checked his left hand, the clock is no longer there. He checked on his wallet, his $30 is gone. The time stops, the time really stops – he thought.
Bermuda triangle, an uncontrollable time machine; a place where no robot is working, where machinery are uncontrollable too; a place where human can only have 3 chance to travel the time randomly; and in each year traveled, human can only stays for less than one hour, more than one hour means death; a place that stops the time.
Edris reported the things he knew about the Bermuda after the few hour he spent in it. He was then acknowledged by the world to be the “Bermuda Man”. Right now, the Bermuda is no longer covered high walls and the lands there are back filled with people and trees. Moreover, the Bermuda Triangle is now a trip venue and for historians to find out more about the historical events. And the nickname of the Bermuda itself has changed from ‘Devil’s Triangle’ into ‘Tri-muse’. Tri-muse is the abbreviation for Amusing Triangle. Although many people has accepted Bermuda as a safe place right now, still not a little number of people still call it the Devil’s Triangle.
“Daddy! It’s no longer sci-fi! And I have a new superhero I like.” said Julian who came and directly hug Edris.
“See right. You have to trust your daddy. Oh, who is he?” wink to his child.
“You! Bermuda Man!” Julian breaks off from his father hand and shapes a triangle using his small hands and run around the room while making plane’s sound.
