The Ring of Fate
By: Donna Gardner
The sun is setting on a busy street on a Saturday afternoon. It is spring and the weather is not to warm and not to cold. All the buildings are starting to light up the street as the people walk to their destinations.
Brain walks in a sprit to the restaurant he is heading for. He is looking at his watch. He has one hand in his pocket making sure the box that is in his pocket doesn’t fall out. He walks without paying attention to where he is going.
Brain runs really hard into Addelyn making all her papers fall out of her hand.
Brain reaches down to help Addelyn pick up all of her papers. He looks into her eyes.
Everything stops around them like it is just him and her in that one moment. Both characters only have focus on each other. Then when standing up they bump heads and she blushes. He then smiles back at her.
Brain realizes that he is still in a rush. He gets up checking his pocket to see if the ring box is still in his pocket. He then starts to sprint faster toward the restaurant.
Brain arrives at the restaurant still rushing to his table. His girlfriend comes in and out of breath smiles at her worriedly. She looks into his eyes with a devious smirk. Brain then gets down one knee. He hesitated as he pulled the ring out the box. She sees the ring and devours it with her eyes. The diamond catches the light and reflects nothing but emptiness. The shaking of his hands causes him to drop the ring. When he sees the ring he chases it determined to finish what he started.
The ring starts to roll under the table next to them. Brains then drops down to an army crawl fighting to get to the ring. The ring rolls around everyone’s feet. He pushes people out of the way trying to get to it. Someone then kicks the ring in a different direction. He then stubbles trying the run and not fall to go in the right direction of the ring is going. He runs into a waiter which makes him fall onto a table. Not stopping to help him he keeps on running. He then drives into the ring hoping to catch it in his hands.
In the background is a man in an announcer voice saying: he goes under the table, makes his way through the people. The ring switches direction. He makes a left. Oh no! Right into the waiter he goes. He keeps going. Then he slides into home plate. He is safe.
Everything fades out and low music starts to play.
He then gets up everything fading out when he looks up he sees Addelynn standing there with a flirty smirk on her face.
