The Conspiracy..........Rise n Fall
Born 1955, M, from Vadodara, Gujarat,, India“The Conspiracy”…………………………….RISE N FALL
as imagined by me, but was it so? Check it out for yourself.
A true story that took shape 13 days ago or was it the repetition of similar incident that took place 13 years ago.
I dedicate this story to my Son Len alerting him for his future. The situations, conditions and circumstances he will have to face as he steps out in the Engineering Profession. What type of people, colleagues, subordinates and seniors he will have to deal with and how to be cautious about all the game people play and how to solve the problems.
I say, Stay Alert! Len, the Conspiracy has begun!
This is a true story about me, Theo, a soft spoken, humble, hardworking, sincere HVAC Senior Technician working since 14 years in EMCO. Never thought of changing my job due to age factor and the due to financial problems I faced in my family. Truly a God fearing and God loving, always willingly want to forgive anyone who has done any wrong against me or my family and that’s what I teach my children cause that’s what Jesus has taught us,
“Forgive not 7 times but 70 times 7.”
15th Sept. 2012 the company Coaster rolled down the road, I was seated right beside my Supervisor Mr. Madhusudhan, “Get down at SWI with Cherian, and carry out the PM jobs of AC's ” I happily nodded, “Okay Sir.” Madhu added, “We don’t have spare bicycles so…..” “Fine, Sir.” I understood the situation, or we could have got down at our main site GUP and then come to SWI on bike.
Madhu concluded, “I’ll send Jawahar with the permit.” Not knowing what was in store, I headed to SWI, but on the way something struck my mind. A vague thought ran up my mind, “Why did he send me here?” The conspiracy had started. As both of us moved on, I forgot about the thought. We waited anxiously for Jawahar to come with the permit. As you know one can’t work in the Oil Field without a valid permit. Keep this in mind, very important; don’t work if you don’t have a permit. About half an hour later Jawahar arrived with the permits, two in all, 4 Window AC's and 4 Split AC's I did the planning, “Let’s first take these 3 WAC's then go for these 2 SAC's ” as these were located in one place near the Control room. The two guys, Cherian and Jawahar agreed. Two Window AC's were removed, cleaned, serviced and placed back in position. Then we removed the third WAC and carried out the PM Job as required. Then came the turn of the two Split AC's Cherian, an electronics auto-door technician, now working as an AC technician suggested, “Let’s finish up with the split AC's and then sit for lunch.” “Fine” was the affirmation from me as I never believed in having my might always; I would readily give to suggestions from juniors, point to remember.
Now the Split AC we were about to service had some problem since a couple of months. It used to trip after running for 1 or 2 days. No one had tried to find out why? All that they did was, everyday when they went for routine check if they found that the SAC was tripped, they would reset and it would run for a couple of days. Our threesome gang carried out the PM Job on the 2 SACs and started the AC's No problem, the AC's were up and running. All three guys were happy; one side of the job was completed successfully. Now before we headed for the other location we needed energy, so we opted for lunch.
After completion of lunch, when Cherian went to wash his hands, he found that the Split AC with the problem had tripped. He came and informed me. We checked and found that there was no power supply. “We’ll have to check the fuse,” suggested Cherian, “But the fuse is in the Bus Bar and you know we are not supposed to touch it.” came as an alarm from me. “Please listen to me, don’t put your hand inside the Bus Bar, if anything goes wrong, we will be fired.” I warned him. Cherian persisted, “Let’s just try.” I was not ready to take the risk; I knew if anything went wrong, I would be blamed as I was the senior.
Suddenly, the electrician who had the authority to check and work on the Bus Bar came in. My stress was calmed, I asked him to remove the fuse and also asked for a spare fuse. The electrician showed us how to remove and fix the new fuse. Before starting the AC we checked the compressor terminals for burnt out wiring, we did find one and replaced it. That done, we re-started the AC with the remote control, but again the fuse got blown off.
Now what? The electrician had left as he was half day off. I suggested Cherian, “We can come later and check, if we have time or just leave it for tomorrow.” Cherian looked with an undecided mind, “Let’s complete the other PM Job,” I added. The two guys agreed and moved on to the other site. On reaching the other site, I phoned and informed the Supervisor about the problem with the SAC. I tried to pass the message, “Already 2 fuses have been blown off, what do you want me to do now, I don’t have any spare fuse with me.” Madhu gave us an idea, “After you finish up with the PM Job, just go and check what the problem is, check for continuity, check for body earth, see if the compressor is safe.” He also added, “I’ll send the merger and some fuse.”
I was unaware that Cherian whilst leaving the previous site had closed that permit for the Split AC. We completed the PM Job for the second site without any problem. We closed the permit for this site and send it with Jawahar as he had the bike. We hardly had time left to check the SAC. Just at this moment Francis calls up and asks me to do something and I bluntly refused to do it, “Sorry Francis, I will not do that, if you want you can come and do it.”
What was it that Francis asked me to do? Why did he suggest such a thing? Was it from his mind or Madhu’s? Did Madhu use Francis to create a problem for me? When I said no, Francis used Cherian as a tool. He asked Cherian to do it. Was this a conspiracy to doom me, but why?
I recollected something that had taken place between me and Madhu. Last month from the 13th of Aug. to 12 of Sept. I was appointed to play the roll of Acting Supervisor once again, in place of Madhu as he had to replace Faizulla who went on emergency leave. Now Madhu was handling the RRD site and me GUP, SWI, Jetty and BeAAT.
Ansar Sir, the site Engineer had seen my performance and was pleased with it. But last time when Madhu went on emergency leave, he had suggested Kalwath’s name another guy with 30 years experience to replace him and not me, though I had replaced him once before in 2010, but I was not paid the allowance, why? They had played a game with me, the site Engineer then, Mr. Wahid and Madhu promised me but forgot after the period was completed. So this time Madhu knew I would not accept the offer, so Kalwath was in, but at his time the Site Engineer Mr. Veera did not like Kalwath’s performance and his ways of dealing. So before he left for India he suggested my name to Mr. Ansar and this is how I was back on track as an Acting-Supervisor.
Now Mr. Ansar entrusted me with a job of finding all the pending jobs for all the areas under me. I did it with my utmost sincerity, I prepared a list and showed it to Ansar Sir, and he was pleased. To make things more venerable I asked Sir if I could make a excel copy and send it through email. He was very much pleased, “Surely, please do it.” I was excited, I gathered all the required details during the day time and in the evening prepared the Excel sheet and emailed it to Ansar Sir.
Two days later, suddenly I get a call from Madhu, “Thank you very much, Theo,” I was a bit upset by the tone Madhu talked, he sounded annoyed, I inquired, “What is it Madhuji? Thank you for what?”
“I’ll talk to you later.” Was the reply from Madhu. A mountain of thoughts started building up in mind, what’s wrong? What happened? Did Ansar Sir fire him because of the pending list? I hit right on the head of the nail. Ansar Sir did forward the email to the Head-office and because of that Madhu got firing from the office. That evening Madhu came to my room, the state he was in would have made things worse but I played it cool. He was drunk. All that came out of his mouth was, “What do you think of yourself, you have become a big Supervisor, you think if you send the report to head-office, you can replace me.” I intervened, “But I did not send it to head-office, I did what Sir told me, it’s my job, I don’t have anything to do with this, Ansar Sir must have send it, I don’t know anything. Please try to understand.” But Madhu was not ready to understand, he was high and the only way to get him down was to call Ansar Sir. I dialed Sir’s number but it was coming dead, so I called Asish, the planner for our site, “Asish, I have a problem here, Madhuji is boozed and creating problem for me, can please try to solve this problem, it’s regarding the pending list.” Asish called on Madhu’s number and tried to convince him to keep cool. So after cutting the conversation with Asish, Madhu came close to me and gave me a hug and said, “I am sorry, Theo, we are friends, don’t take it to heart.” I did not feel like believing in his words, still to convince myself had to play it cool.
I hope now you get the idea why Madhu plotted this conspiracy against me. What happened next was my bad luck, we were asked by Madhu to complete the job of the problematic split AC. We went and checked the wiring all over again and found one wire insulation was burnt and it was touching the compressor head, this is what was causing the trip, we thought. We cut the burnt part and reconnected the wire, checked the merger, found okay. Then we replaced the fuse and started the unit, it worked for a few seconds and got tripped. I got a bit frustrated, “What the hell is happening?” Cherian looking at the heater wire “Looks like this wire is also cut.” I suggested, “Just disconnect the wires.” He did so; again we replaced the fuse and started the AC, the same thing happened, the fuse gone. Now we were left with one fuse so we tried to disconnect the motor wires too, maybe there is some problem with the motor but no we found after the merger check that the motor was okay. Then we went and did what was not to be done, I was not willing, but Cherian insisted and the big blunder I did was I did not stop him, we started the AC. I was near the outdoor unit and he was near the indoor unit with the remote. He pressed the button and all lights in the control building went off, there was a huge blast in the Bus Bar.
Cherian came running out, “There’s a big blast in the Bus Bar.” “Shit man, I told you, now we are gone.” Both of us were horrified, did not know what to do. I instantly dialed to Madhu, “Madhuji, there’s a blast in the Bus Bar, you will have to come soon.” The operator in charge came running, “What did you do? Where is your permit?” I asked Cherian for the permit, “I had sent it with Jawahar.” “Oh My God! I am finished.” So this was included in the plan, working without the permit. No way for me to be safe, was his plan. We were called in front of the Shift Engineer, Shift Supervisor, Section Head, Plant manager, within minutes everyone was there. Three to four of the SWI water pumps had stopped due to the blast. We were questioned and I had to answer everything in detail all the truth except for the last one and I readily took the blame on me, cause I did not want to put Cherian in trouble, because I liked him, he was a good guy, not like the others. The Section Head seemed to be a understanding gentle man, he was pleased that I told them the truth, only he wanted to know was, "Is there anything else you did? Please tell us the truth, it is for your good, if we find out the truth, then you will be in problem." My emotions were getting tickled, Madhu had already warned me before the meeting not to open my mouth, specially with the last secret. The only thing they were pounding on was, if you replace one fuse with another then the other fuse will also blow off and not create a blast. They were almost near to the point but did not get to it.
Next day nothing happened, on Monday 17th Sept.2012 our Site Engineer Mr. Ansar along with Mr. Adil our former Engineer now direct employee in Takreer as HVAC Engineer were called for a meeting regarding our matter. Before they left for the meeting, Ansar Sir asked me, "Theo, what happened and how did it happen? How is that you made such a mistake?" I explained the same thing in detail, only this time I told the truth about Cherian, "Sir, I had told Cherian not to do it but he did not listen to me, and I had also informed Madhu Sir about the situation but he forced me to complete the job." How could he tell me to work without the permit, all he said in the meeting was I told them to do the house keeping, a big lie! This is what he added,"I always tell them never to touch the Bus Bar," another lie! A man who has made his life out of lies, what can you expect?
One thing I did not tell Ansar Sir was, who had given the idea and what was the idea? If I had opened my mouth in front of Ansar Sir, then both Madhu and Francis would be behind bars, the situation that was created looked like a terrorist attack, but I never want to hurt anyone that's my logic, forgive, forgive and forgive. May my Lord have mercy on them. Cherian was transferred to another site the next day, good for him, he will be safe. I too was supposed to leave but Ansar Sir put in a word for me as he knew it was not my fault. Actually he understood the whole scene behind the incident, the conspiracy, even before I told him, he said,"Theo, I understand everything, don't worry, I'll see to it that you don't get into trouble." My Lord had sent an angel to lift me up in my crisis, the rise and fall in the conspiracy had taken a u-turn. Madhu tried all he could to finish up with me, taking the revenge of the pending list problem, which as you know was not fault at all. I remembered what he had said when he was boozed, "I'll see how you will stay as a supervisor?" What he had planned for me was turned on him. This idea of making the situation clear to Ansar Sir was surely prompted by my Lord, to save me and I was. Well, in front of the Client I took the blame on me and in front of Ansar Sir, I put it on Cherian, maybe this is what Madhu never expected, the tables were turned onto his tool, Cherian. I had asked my wife to pray for me and get me out and safe from this situation, she did an also asked me to pray likewise,"Praise, thanks, glory and magnify You my Lord, Your favor is upon me." Surely, He did. God knows I told the truth, God also knows I hid one truth, but He also knows that I did it not to hurt anyone. All I want to tell my son Len, always do what is right, always pray the way I did, in whatever situation you may be, He will answer you.
I know, everyone is keen on knowing the secret, but I have made a promise and I won't break it, may it be to my worst enemy, but still a promise is a promise. I have forgiven them, the conspiracy is closed.
I just remembered that in the beginning of the story I wrote about a similar incident that took place 13 years ago, what was it, and does this have any connection to this story, read on, there's more to the conspiracy, that's not the end, to be continued..................???
