Adventure
Born 1996, F, from St Louis, Missouri, United StatesAdventure
An adventure, an unusual and exciting experience or activity. Normally adventures happen when you are younger and you try to explore areas you have never seen or been in before.
Zoe was only eight and her family wanted to take a camping trip to Blackwater. Blackwater, a camping and fishing area that her family tries to make time to go to every year. Last year her mom was pregnant, so they just decided to skip the trip. Zoe never really liked camping, but her and her dad were not that close. Zoe was definitely a “mommy’s girl.” She never told her dad that she hated camping: she just always told him that she would rather not go with them. With Zoe being the oldest child and them living away from all their close relatives, she had no choice but to go because she was not old enough to watch herself, nor should she have to.
Zoe has always been very passionate and interested in sharks. She has always wanted to see a shark ever since she was little. One thing about Zoe is that she is very gullible and she believes everything someone says.
Talking to Zoe, her mom says, “Zoe, it will be fun this year! You might even see a shark. You know they do live in ponds,” giggling a little as she finishes talking to her daughter. Zoe smiles happily at her mother and agrees to go. They all get packed and drive to Blackwater which is about a four hour drive. Zoe and her baby sister both sleep the whole way. When they arrive at the campsite, Zoe tells her mother and father that she wants her tent to be closest to the pond, so she can spy on it.
Tired from the trip, everyone lays down. When Zoe hears her dad snoring, she knows it is go time. She quietly gets up and out of her tent, trying not to wake her baby sister. Zoe grabs a flashlight and a watch so she can keep up with time and return before her parents wake up.
With her mind set on seeing a shark, Zoe does not even put on shoes, she just starts walking the woods in socked feet. Zoe searches up and down and all around the pond. She could not find or see anything, except fish. One time she even passed a snake, but it was dead: at least she thought it was. She was not gonna stick around to find out, because it was pretty big. Finding nothing, Zoe goes back to her camp ground and changes into her swimsuit. Zoe is not the best swimmer and should not be going into the pond without supervision but she does anyways. Jumping in the pond, Zoe realizes that it was a bad idea. She can not touch and she starts panicking. She yells for her mom and dad.
“Mom, Dad! Help, please help me!”
Struggling to stay up above water, Zoe keeps yelling and finally someone answers her. “ZOE, where are you!?” her dad yells.
Zoe splashes water up while yelling and her dad spots her in the pond, he runs fast, diving in and grabbing her. Pulling her out, he calmly asks her what in the world she was thinking. Zoe responds as she sniffles, “Mom told me this would be fun! That I could see sharks, and she lied!”
“Zoe, you know more about sharks than anyone I know.. You know that sharks do not live in ponds, they live in the ocean,” her father replies.
Zoe looks at her father, telling him that he is right and she was just too in the moment to think about it. With both of them laughing about the situation, they return to camp. “Lets not tell mom about this Zoe” he says.
“Had not planned on it! Thanks dad,” Zoe replies.
Sometimes adventures can be scary and still turn out good. Zoe was so excited about the sharks that it did not dawn on her that they live in the ocean. Adventures make life so exciting, especially when you're little. What was your funniest/scariest adventure?
