Laying on his death bed from the effects of stab wounds, Jonas reminisces on his entire life. He came to the realization and acceptance that he will soon be in the afterlife. Seeing his parents and precocious daughter by his side during his last moments is all he needs to enter the gates of heaven without regrets. Whitney, Jonas’ daughter, is the last member of the Robinson family, besides her grandparents. Gifted with mixed martial art skills taught by Jonas for several years, her fighting skills are limitless against pedophiles and/or sex offenders. Since she is at the age of 14, she legally cannot live on her own. By law, she must live with her grandparents because her father is dead. Jonas’ wife, Barbara, was killed during a shooting at a nearby grocery store near Whitney’s childhood house. It was Whitney’s 5th birthday weekend. Since then, Whitney has always been a daddy’s girl. That explains her tomboyish ways with the passion for fighting and self defense.
According to Jonas’ will, his money was given to Whitney. Whitney did not have enough money to run away and live on her own, even with her father’s money.. In defiance, she ran away from her grandparents house after a week of being there. She left a note on their side table so that they wouldn’t call the cops to send a search for her. The note included an apology for leaving, her phone number if they wanted an update on how she was doing, and a promise that she made to them, saying, “I’ll come back in a week if life gets too difficult for me to bear.” In her mind she knew she had no where to go, but she also knew that she would not cooperate well in a house with other people beside her father. Whitney’s mother, Barbara, died in a robbery during Whitney’s fifth year of life. Since then, Whitney stuck to her father like glue. Losing him depicted the most devastating change in her life.
Celebrating her 15th birthday, Whitney spends it with her three close friends she met on a social media website for teens: James, Christa, and Morgan. All dealing with their own problems involving running away from home, they all decided to make a pact and support each other in their own little clique. Ranging from 14 to 18, they all could hold up their own pretty well and maintain money easily. Christa, being the oldest, held down a job as a waitress at a little restaurant near the apartment complex where the teens stayed. James, being the second oldest at 17, also held down a job as a cook in a very popular fast food place. Morgan, being only a year older than Whitney, was too young to have a job so the two girls would keep the house nice and clean while the others pay rent.
