All Jamie Wants Is A Dog
Born 2002, F, from Prince Frederick MD., United StatesJamie loved dogs, she drew pictures, printed out pictures, and had other kids draw pictures of them for her! She wanted one so bad, but when she asked her mom the answer was always "Not until you learn responsibility." Now Jamie was only six. She didn't know what that meant, all she knew was that she wanted a dog. "Mom, what's responsibility?" she would ask. Her mom just laughed and answered "You will understand when you are older." But Jamie did not want to wait until she was older, she wanted a dog now. At school, she asked her friends, teachers, and even her friends parents, and they all gave her the same answer, "Ask your mom and dad." She did, everyday, but the same answer was given, "You will understand when you are older." Everyday Jamie felt as if she was older, and she told her parents that, too. That answer was only slightly different "When you are about a couple years older, that is when you will understand." Jamie was very upset to hear a couple of years and she would get her dog, she wanted it now, she wanted to know what responsibility is now, and she wanted to grow up, fast. One day Jamie woke up and her mom and dad told her to clean her room and her bathroom. She did not want to clean her room or her bathroom. She cried and pounded her fists against the floor, kicked her feet up and down, and side to side. Her mother looked straight in her eyes and said "It is your responsibility to clean up your own mess, now if you want that dog, get to it." Jamie did not understand at first, but she finally got it when she was laying in her bedroom on a hot summer day, thinking how she should clean it. She thought since mom did not tell her to, she did not have to. Jamie thought about what mom had said a couple weeks earlier, that it was her responsibility to clean her room and bathroom. Jamie got up and cleaned her room, all on her own. She also cleaned her bathroom, without being told to! The next morning, Jamie walked up to her mother and father and said "Responsibility is when it is your job to do something, and no one else, isn't it?" Her mom and dad nodded, with big smiles on their faces. Jamie had an even bigger one, she was finally going to get the dog she wanted! Her birthday was right around the corner, and she did in fact get the dog she wanted. She named him Harry. Jamie and Harry grew up together. Jamie grew up to be a successful person, all because she knew what her responsibilities were.
