Hearts and souls

HEARTS AND SOULS
The sun was up high in the sky shinning brightly, a cold sea breeze swept across my face, everything was calm, almost completely. Literally, I was in position to hear my self think.
The silence and tranquility was broken when a voice shouted from behind.
‘’Mikael! Mikael!‘’
I recognized the voice, it was my pesty little sister, Sabrina.
Whirling around ferociously, I shouted at the peak of my voice.
‘’what do you want!’’
My eyes met with her tender ones which were glistened with tears, and immediately, my rage melted like butter. Her lower lip curled, I knew it was just a matter of time before she could yell, attracting the attention of everyone at the beach. I jumped off the rock I had seated comfortably, and moved to her.
‘’am sorry for being rude’’ I apologized, wiping away a drop of tear running down her pale white cheeks. ‘’will you forgive me and give me that killer smile of yours’’. I grinned. ‘’come on you don’t wanna be like grandma do you’’.
Her face glowed, and before I knew it, she was smiling.
‘’now tell me what did you want?’’ I asked with a smile.
‘’I was with my friend playing near the cave, when a hoarse groan came out of it, we were terrified and we ran leaving my teddy bear’’ she narrated, wile I listened intently.
‘’A groan‘’ I chortled. ‘’kids!’’ I exclaimed, though I was technically one.
She frowned once more, at my remark.
“OK! I will help you find it’’ I said.
Blazing the trail, we passed by a number of couples sun bathing, others whispering to each other. The ladies always giggled at every word they were told, God knows what they were.
At last, we stood a couple of yards way from the cave. The caves entrance was jagged, and it looked like the mouth of a gigantic shark, ready to swallow whoever went cross it.
‘’that horrible thing may get us’’ Sabrina whispered to me and firmed her grip to my hand.
‘’not to worry little sis, I am superman’’ I grinned. ‘’I will send whatever is in there to hell, if it dares to lay its hand on you’’ I assured.
Making a thorough search around the cave, the teddy bear was nowhere to be seen. I turned out to be a person who easily quits when a venture yields no result, but every time I felt like telling her, she gave me her sad look, which kept me going.
‘’lets go check in the cave, maybe you left it there’’ I suggested.
‘’no that thing will eat us’’ She insisted. ‘’please let us not enter that God forsaken cave’’ She pleaded.
I chuckled. ‘’don’t you wanna find your teddy bear?’’
‘’yes I do” She replied sheepishly.
‘’then let go of me’’. She hesitated, but then let go, I held her hand, and led the way into the cave.
The cave was spooky, and it sent a cold sensation down my spine. I felt like turning back, but to save face, I tossed away all the thoughts of fright. Ironically, Sabrina seemed more relaxed than I was. The cave wasn’t as dark as I had anticipated earlier, as a matter of fact you could walk without bumping into anything, and could also see whatever was on the ground, save at the deepest part of it.
‘’see!, I told you there isn’t anything to get scared about’’ I said.
‘’look!’’ She pointed. It was kind of dark but I could tell she was terrified to death.
Believe me; the sight almost made me stop breathing, a pair of bright eyes stared at us, accompanied by a low hoarse groan. I couldn’t move, as if my feet were planted in the ground beneath me.
‘’I am scared’’ Sabrina whispered, I noticed she was about to yell and possibly pull way from me to flee, which couldn’t be a good Idea at all, since most wild animals turn aggressive, when noticed.
‘’it's going to be ok’’ I whispered, my heart in my mouth.
Then a funny thing happened, a bark came out of the thing, hidden in the dark, it was then that I realized, I was just scared by a dog, not a wolf, but a dog.
‘’it’s a dog” I gave a sigh of relief.
We went to check it. Sabrina offered her sweater, which she ties round her waist often, for carrying the dog, which seemed wounded.
When we were finally out of the cave, we realized we had won ourselves, a beautiful female white dog with black spots and not forgetting fine silky hair.
“I will call you snow rose’’ She whispered to it.
Sabrina was no longer grieving about her lost teddy bear, she kept patting the dog all the way home.
