HAWK - The Unmasking of a Hero
Born 1998, M, from North Walsham, United KingdomHAWK, A hero with the power to stop any villain that threatens the city he was born in and the city he has sworn to protect at all costs. Blake Johnson has dedicated his life to the welfare of Boston. Born into the King family, Blake was put into protective custody after the death of his parents only 5 years ago and forced to change his name to Johnson for safety reasons. He used his family’s money to set up a security company that watches over Boston 24/7.
HAWK has protected the city from any other criminal attacks for the past 4 years. Even though the city despised HAWK when he first arrived in Boston he has gained the police department’s trust over the years.
Blake had a secret from the city of Boston. He used his security company as a front to watch over the city and spot crime for HAWK to stop. The secret, however, is that he is HAWK and underneath the headquarters of his million dollar firm in the centre of Boston he hid a cave in which he kept HAWK gadgets and the suit of armour that he flew around in.
The police department didn’t fully trust HAWK because of the fact that he kept the secret of his real identity from them as well as the rest of Boston. He only wanted to protect people from the dangers he encounters when enclosed in the armour. Even his closest relatives have no idea. Last time HAWK revealed his secret, it was to his girlfriend and Waterpool drowned her which sent Blake into a depression that meant increased criminal activity until he realised that it wouldn’t help anyone. Since that point on Blake trusted no one with his secret and he doesn’t intend to trust anyone in the whole of Boston.
Recently though Blake has realised that with the rise in crime throughout the city he may need to enlist some help. A sidekick that can be trained to fight in the way that HAWK can. He had been watching for the right person and had no such luck in finding anyone.
Blake had to go to a board meeting at his company skyscraper today and so he decided to do his daily rounds of the city afterwards. He had a secret passage in the basement of the headquarters which took him all the way to his base of operations where he stored everything.
He thought that the jet plane he uses wasn’t the best method of travel and decided to go in the Bentley that was stored in the mansion garage. After all if someone saw the completely ordinary Blake Johnson out of a high tech HAWK Jet which is inscribed with the hero’s insignia.
After, finally, deciding on which of his 5 Bentley’s to take to the board meeting he left his mansion with a cloud of smoke trailing behind him from the car.
When he arrived at the HQ for Johnson Security the car door got opened to a flood of flashing lights and reporters that wanted a photo and statement from the multi-millionaire. After struggling through the crowd of people he entered the building injury free. He was walking towards the board room when a member of the uncontrollable crowd outside pulled him over after getting past the security of a security firm.
The paparazzi asked Blake if he was willing to take part in the show “The Celebrity Eye”, a new show that followed famous people around filming their lives to show on television. He immediately came back with “NO, I can’t because … because it might threaten the security business.”
Meanwhile on the top floor of his building the board meeting had started and without Blake order had been lost. The company was about to be taken over by a very wealthy and powerful business women from Chicago. Her name was Samantha Bell and she was the CEO of Blake’s rival company in the nearby city. Samantha was an old and good friend of Blake’s but with his company on the line she took her opportunity and swooped in.
Finally Blake reached the board room only to be greeted by Samantha and the board members who had already been swayed to the other side and the company had been sold to Bell Industries unless Blake could make another $1 million in a month to pay for half of the company.
In an angry storm, Blake left the board room with no idea how to make $1 million, the bank said he couldn’t have any more money to fund his endeavours. All the way home he thought and thought about the money and his company. Suddenly it hit him. All he had to do was do the new show “The Celebrity Eye”.
The new show offered him the chance to show the public that he was like any ordinary man and it would also give just enough money to buy his company. With a flash he was on the mobile to the television company asking if they still wanted him to go on the show.
The next day came by and Blake was all ready for the trip to the TV studio when the alarm flashed through the mirror on the far wall. Blake had a choice, did he see to the emergency or did he make sure he was on time for his interview with the television company.
He, being super intelligent, came to a suitable conclusion. He would see to the problem and make an excuse because Blake was already unreliable and didn’t want to pass the persona to his alter ego.
He rushed over to the locked store room and down stairs to the HAWK chamber underneath his house. Within minutes he was suited up and ready to fly high into the sky. “All systems go…” said the on-board computer. And off he went. The computer set a waypoint GPS route that Blake could follow.
Blake soon arrived at the location only to find that it was water that was being forced out of the drains. The police had reported to be an incarnation of Waterpool and as a previous enemy of HAWK’s that meant it rose the alarm.
“I can’t believe this mistake of idiocy made me late for the interview.” said Blake unaware that he had left the suit outward speaker switched on. Of course he realised though, after the police, standing only inches away, asked him what he was going on about.
HAWK’s mask stared the officers in the face before flooding them in smoke from the rocket propelled repulsors in the base of his boots. As he was flying towards the studio it occurred to him that if the camera’s followed him everywhere how would he escape from them to perform his heroic acts as HAWK. Before he could come to an answer he was hovering above the studio and had to find somewhere to park. Over the years he had become very use to using the fire escape ladders on the edge of buildings. In the end he decided to land on the roof and use the ladder to get to the lobby.
Finally he made it and only with minutes to spare. The director was waiting in the reception area and of course he had to notice how Blake was out of breath and so very nearly late for the interview when he has all of his super-fast cars. Anyway, the interview went ahead as planned and within a few short hours the contract was signed and Blake was ready to be filmed. When he got home however he realised that he was in big trouble and now really had to come up with a solution to his alter ego problem.
He spent days looking for a way to overcome the problem but now it was too late. The camera van had just been detected by the houses’ security system. Blake had to think fast, He was still tweaking his new suit in the base. He rushed to the back garden exit lift, after all that was the quickest exit out of his base, and ran through the house just as they knocked on the door.
Apparently filming began from the moment he opened the door but he was ready. He had the maids clean the house and the kitchen staff prepare food for his new guests.
Only kidding, think it through, if he had enough money to pay every one of those staff he wouldn’t have to be on the show in the first place…
Blake had also been told that the crew would film 24/7, including the night time. Anyway the filming had begun and within only 2 hours the silent alarm had gone off and Blake had a chance to test the Mark VI suit that he had designed to work using an AI connected to the main computer.
He went through to his study followed by the film crew and he accessed the artificial intelligence program, which was disguised as a security camera program, and fired up the suit ready for deployment. Without any suspicion from the crew the suit was launched and stopped the petty crime in downtown Boston.
However it was never that simple and as the suit landed back in the base it created a rumble that shook the whole house because it tried to go through the back garden shoot. Immediately the camera crew zoomed out into the back garden only to see… NOTHING!
The suit had just scraped along the side of the lift wall which is connected to the houses’ infrastructure. Thankfully no damage had been caught on camera but from now on Blake had to be really careful because the producers had become suspicious and eventually they might put two and two together and figure out Blake’s secret. For now however he wanted to make sure when they put two and two together they got forty four.
Soon a week had passed by and Blake hadn’t had a chance to fix the artificial intelligence suit because of all the filming. And to make matters worse the city was falling into crime without the protection from HAWK. Any excuse that Blake gave couldn’t get rid of the film crew. After a painful 8th day being filmed returned back home to find his home had been ransacked. Of course having all the security systems around the house meant he could find the culprit but to his surprise it wasn’t a somebody but a something.
The new AI suit had broken into the house and destroyed it, luckily the TV show’s camera’s hadn’t caught the same footage.
Finally it came down to the last week of filming and for some reason Blake woke up with a worried look on his face. The night before he had managed to sneak down to the base to take a look at the new AI. He had to find out what caused the problem earlier in the month but to his surprise the suit wasn’t there and the tracking GPS wasn’t activated.
Matters became even worse when he turned on the TV only to see himself or at least HAWK terrorising the city of Boston. Blake couldn’t do anything while the cameras were around so this time the excuse had to be really good. Blake did think of telling his good friend Jake who he had spent a lot of time with when he wasn’t being filmed. Jake however still worked for the television company and if he told them Blake’s life wouldn’t be the same again.
Soon the new AI suit became out of control and Blake had to do something to sort out the problem and quick. He decided he would fake an injury and then he can have the cameras switched off for a while.
When it came down to the plan Blake pretended to fall down the stairs and sprain his ankle. The plan appeared to be working and the cameras were now switched off. Blake was quickly escorted to the ambulance. On the way to the hospital he stopped faking and kicked the doors out, jumped out of the ambulance right outside the TV studio building. He quickly ran over to the fire escape and raced up to the roof.
When he reached the roof he deactivated the stealth covering on the suit he left there the first time he came for an interview. When the suit was powered up again he put it on and flew across the city in search of the AI. Little did Blake know there was a camera crew round the new suit thinking that was him but he was about to change that as his radar had picked up a signal that matched the one in the AI suit. HAWK was floating above the camera crew and then with a very loud SMASH he slammed into the ground right between the camera and the new AI suit.
Unbelievably the new suit had faster reflexes than Blake and therefore knocked him straight over before the real HAWK could even calculate a move. He jumped straight back up only to be knocked off his feet again. The computer in Blake’s suit had finished analysing the AI suit and found that it was being controlled by someone, but not anymore. Before HAWK even managed to get up the new suit said to him “I prefer the name EAGLE!”
Eagle slammed his fist down but HAWK outwitted him and shot out of the way. Now he had enough time to analyse his opponent’s moves. HAWK jumped up and flew, fist straight out, towards the Eagle. He ripped the left arm off the suit but in doing so had smashed and disfigured the right side of his suit.
Both only had one working energy blaster left and so they rose the arms toward each other and the cannons blew off the cover that protected them. After a tense few seconds a flood of light spread across the park area they stood in and when it died down only HAWK was in one piece.
However he woke not to see a heads up display but cameras facing down over him. “No facemask” thought Blake. The face plate had been one of the major damages to the suit and now Blake’s secret was plastered all over the world on a live stream TV network. Talk about the celebrity eye. After all the effort of trying to keep his alter ego a secret it came out anyway.
A few days later Blake received a letter from the television company saying they won’t show the program but they are very grateful for all the help that HAWK has given to the city over the years. Also in the envelope was a cheque for $1.5 million. Blake went straight to the bank and deposited the money to the company. It was his once again.
The bank manager came over to see Blake just before he left and said “if you need anything, anytime, just pop in and see us Mr Johnson” to which Blake replied “Thank you” and then he left. When he returned home he went to his base and said to the computer “Now we need to find the controller of the Eagle before he does any more damage.”
And so the search was on ….
