The Cop
Born 1995, M, from Kentucky, United StatesThe Cop
By Joseph Logsdon
Vera Jones was a very beautiful woman. Unlike most women, Vera didn’t mind expressing her unique sexuality. She was sexy, breathtaking, and voluptuous. Because of her beauty, Vera was often criticized. Despite her kindness, Vera’s friends grew increasingly jealous. Her beauty was a curse, a disease that she never asked for. In the end, Vera Jones remained lonely and isolated.
Vera had been working as a schoolteacher for many years. Sadly, she was recently fired for being too provocative. She was a smart woman, but students and teachers only saw an attractive object. One rainy afternoon, Vera decided to finally take control of her meaningless life. The sun was going down as she drove along a dark and stormy road. Like most career-driven women, Vera wanted to get ahead in life. Despite her reluctance, Vera planned to drive to a big city and restart her life. Sadly, she would not arrive in one piece.
After several hours of driving in the rain, Vera’s car stopped operating. At first, she assumed that the car’s gas tank was empty. As time passed, Vera finally realized that she had hit an animal. Before she could do anymore, a police officer opened her car door.
“It looks like you hit something,” the officer stated.
“I did, but it’s nothing to worry about,” Vera replied in an awkward voice.
“Are you going to be all right?”
“I should be,” she answered.
“Do I need to give you a lift?”
“That won’t be necessary, thank you,” she stated.
“Are you sure?”
“If I’ve learned one thing, it’s don’t trust strangers, especially when you’re alone in the middle of the night.”
“I’m not a stranger, am I?”
“You are, at least to me.”
“Miss, I’m a police officer, not a criminal.”
“I know that, but I still don’t trust you.”
“Miss, it’s obvious to me that you need help,” he insisted.
“I can manage on my own,” she replied.
“Miss, I would be neglecting my duty if I left you alone.”
“Don’t you have anything better to do?” Vera asked in a sarcastic tone.
“Honestly, I wish I had something better to do, but I don’t.”
“That’s too bad,” she laughed.
“If I leave, what will be your next step?”
“Believe me, I wish I knew what I was going to do next.”
“You can’t just stay here forever,” he replied.
“I wish I could.”
“What do you mean?”
“People love my beauty, not my intelligence. However, there was one man who did understand, at least I thought he did. My boyfriend loved me, but he didn’t seem to realize that I wanted more than an average life. I loved taking care of him, I really did. After several romantic months, our relationship fell apart. I wanted a career, not a family.”
“That’s very touching,” the officer stated.
“Do you think so?”
“Yes, but I still need you to come with me.”
“Okay, you win.”
Without further hesitation, Vera left her car and followed the police officer to his vehicle. Once there, she sat down in the damp seat as the car drove into the night. As the hours went by, Vera grew increasingly nervous around the police officer.
“So, where are you headed?”
“Louisville,” she answered.
“Louisville is a good city, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
“Are you looking for a job?”
“Yes,” she answered.
“Having any luck?”
“I guess,” she answered.
“Am I making you nervous?” the officer asked.
“A little,” she answered.
“That’s strange, most people find me quite charming,” the officer laughed.
“If you don’t mind, I would like it very much if you would stop talking.”
“Did I say something wrong?”
“It’s not you, it’s me.”
“What do you mean?”
“Sir, most men that I’ve known have been vile and disgusting. Because of that, I can be somewhat judgmental towards men,” she stated.
“I understand, at least I’m trying to understand.”
“Now that you understand, can we stop talking?”
“Miss, I wish that were possible.”
“What do you mean?”
“We’re going to talk for as long as I want, understand?”
Suddenly and without warning, the car doors locked. In that moment, fear and panic entered Vera’s mind as the police officer stopped the car.
“What are you doing?” Vera asked in a fearful voice.
“When did you leave your boyfriend?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Answer the question!”
“About a week ago,” she answered.
“Well, it looks like you’re mine.”
Suddenly and without warning, Vera punched the police officer in the face, causing him to cry out in pain.
“Miss, I’ve had just about enough!”
“Stay away from me!” Vera shouted as she kicked the police officer.
“Stop resisting!”
Vera remained frightened as the police officer grabbed her and slammed her against the seat. Within seconds, he had her pinned.
“Don’t rape me!” Vera shouted.
“Darling, who said anything about raping you?”
“You wouldn’t be the first man to do it!”
“Who raped you?” the officer asked.
“About a year ago, my boyfriend decided to take my virginity. I tried to stop him, but he was too strong. Ever since that day, I’ve been an empty shell.”
“This explains a lot,” the officer stated.
“What do you mean?”
“Miss, have you checked your trunk lately?”
“My trunk, why?”
“Miss, why do you think I reached your car so quickly?”
“I thought I was lucky,” she answered.
“You would like to think that, wouldn’t you?”
“What do you mean?”
“I got a call from an anonymous source,” the officer stated.
“Yeah, so?”
“This source said that you had a body in the trunk of your car.”
“That’s absurd!” Vera laughed nervously.
“Is it?”
“Why are you doing this to me?”
“It’s my duty, nothing more.”
After several agonizing seconds, Vera Jones decided to confess her guilt.
“You’re right, I did kill him! I know I should be sorry, but I’m not! He was a monster, an animal with no morals. If I hadn’t killed him, I would be dead right now.”
“You should’ve called the police,” the officer replied.
“The police are given far too much credit, don’t you think? They investigate and interrogate, but they can’t bring us peace.”
“God can give you peace,” the officer stated.
“Sir, God is dead."
