Black Wolf
Born 1996, M, from St. Charles, United StatesI can't remember much of what happened this day but it was gruesome. I had been trudging through the woods with my pal Adam looking for snakes when all of a sudden we stumbled across this cave. Adam went right up to the entrance and said he could tell that something was living inside. I asked how and he pointed towards all the animal skeletons lying all about the cave floor. We started to back up but I ended up tripping over a log causing a lot of noise. I yelled out because I twisted my leg but Adam was quick to silence me. His face was worried and I looked at him with a questioning look. He looked towards the cave entrance and then back towards me saying "I think it's awake...". We both slowly stood up as we heard snarls and heavy breathing inside the cave. Before we could turn to leave we heard quick footsteps coming towards the entrance of the cave. Adam and I were frozen solid with fear as we wondered what was coming our way. Then out from the cave entrance burst a large black wolf that landed only five feet in front of us. It's eyes were a bright blue and it had three very vibrant silver stripes going down its sides. One of its ears had a part missing and one of its fangs was chipped. I could clearly tell this wolf was in pain and didn't want to be messed with. It instantly burst out running and started towards us. It's speed was incredible and there was something about the way it ran that just made me want to stare at it. Then my mind came back to earth and reminded me that it was headed towards me! I grabbed Adam and we ducked as it jumped over us. We darted off but I knew we had very little chance of escaping. The wolf turned and started towards us again trying again to pounce on us. It barely skimmed our heads and landed directly in front of us. Before we could turn around again it swiped at us and one of its claws gashed my face open. We ran once more but we didn't know how much longer we could keep this up. We were terrified and our legs were getting tired fast. The wolf tried one final time to pounce on us and this time ended up getting Adam in the back. Adam fell to the ground and the wolf bit into his neck. I turned and saw the blood oozing out of Adam's mouth and neck. With his final breath he held his arm up and muttered "Run". I dashed away as the wolf devoured my friend and all I could do was cry as I burst out of the woods and into the trailer park. That night I had to go to the hospital and get seven stitches. A week after the attack we buried Adam. My inside was hollow as they lowered his casket into the ground. I walked over to the edge of the hole and pulled out the two white roses I had bought and held them over his casket down in the hole. I grabbed my scar and thought of how it could've been me in that coffin. Then I dropped the roses as I said my final goodbyes to one of my best friends.
