A Golden Farewell
Born 1995, M, from New Plymouth, New ZealandGolden Farewell
Farewell my son, my son full of pride
His steps he takes, each with a shimmering stride
Abroad to the sea, away from me
I beg not for an eternity
For soon he shall return a man, no longer shy, no longer a boy
And with one last embrace, he leaves me behind to the sound of, ahoy!
He boards the ship, she so steady against the rocking waves
Oh how I've dreaded these lonely days
For my heart yearns for him already, son won't you stay, please stay, please stay
But I must not be wary, for he looks to me for courage, raising his right hand to the sky
Oh my son, if only this weren't goodbye
She sets sail with my son upon the open sea, leaving me behind, a small speck in the distance
How, I think, could his mother have missed this
The sun rises, glistening the waves with it's golden ray
The angels must have heard, yes, they heard me pray
For my son's safety, and a hasty return
Oh how I wish I was younger, to experience with him, all the things he will learn
But I must let him go, I must not shed a tear!
For he remains in my heart, till we meet again, forever near, forever near
With a halo surrounding her shrinking silhouette, she looks safe, guarded by a giant angel
Will the pain ever leave me, only time will tell
I must say it, I must say it, my golden farewell
