There was once a boy called Harding, who wanted a cricket set more than anything, but his mom thought it was useless. After school, he came back home. Harding said, “I played cricket and it was fun.”
“Don’t play cricket again!” shouted Mom.
“But why?” he exclaimed.
“Because it’s useless for you, you should read books!”
“Can I have a cricket set because my friend Dhruv has a beautiful cricket set that amazes me?”
“No, it’s useless and where would I keep that piece of junk!”
“But I saw a cricketer called Virat Kohli on television. I want to be like him. His shots are so elegant and he’s so good.”
“No, you can’t have it. It’s too expensive.” Then he left crying on his bed.
“My mom is so mean!” Harding said angrily. He got an idea to get the cricket set …
Then he went to bed. When he woke up, it was a good day for him. It was his holiday. Then he saw his mom’s purse just out of the bedroom. He had two thoughts in his head. There was a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. “You have to steal the money from your mom’s purse and buy a cricket set,” told the devil.
“No, you can’t steal money, that’s ridiculous!” shouted the angel.
“You have to take the money. Your mom is not here and it’s your holiday.”
“That’s a bad thing. Don’t do it.”
“Dhruv has a beautiful one which your mom won’t let you buy. This is your only chance.”
“Don’t be bad, your mom would be very angry if she knew that you did it.”
“You have to do it.”
“I will,” replied Harding. Then he tiptoed quietly out of the room while his heart was racing. His hands were shaking nervously. He got there. He looked around twice to check. He heard a sound. It was his mom. She was coming! It was his minute. He quickly grabbed the money and ran to his bedroom.
He bought a Virat Kohli MRF cricket set and came back home.
He hid the cricket set in his mystery box. He was feeling nervous. He sneakily took the cricket set to school. He walked to school scared. When they went to school, he had a hard test. He didn’t do well because he was thinking about the cricket set. “Can I go to the toilet?” asked Harding.
“Quickly go!” shouted Mr Zaveri. He went and hid the cricket set. When he came back, it was break time. He looked around and rushed off to get the cricket set. He played with Dhruv. “Did you get a new cricket set?” asked Dhruv.
“I did. My mum let me buy one because I did good things,” communicated Harding. They had lots of fun. He thought at lunch time he would practice his shots and remember Virat Kohli. It was lunch time. He was very excited, even Dhruv was very excited. My team was batting and Dhruv’s team was bowling. They were having a lot of fun. It was going to be home time, it was the last lesson. He felt nervous again. It was home time. The bell rang. Everyone rushed off, but Harding slowly walked home with Dhruv because they had a play date. He didn’t want to get in trouble, so he hid it in his bag. He had a nice play date. It was tea time. Then he went to sleep. He woke up.
“Can I have the cricket set?” asked Harding’s mom.
“Oops,” whispered Harding.
“How dare you!” shouted Mom. His mom didn’t trust him from then on and he got locked in his bedroom for a year with food every other day. He started crying and didn’t stop for the whole year. After one year, he came out of his bedroom and hugged his mom and dad, but they had forgotten him. They didn’t hug him back. All the days he had done good things were forgotten. Until one day a car was almost going to bump into his dad. Harding jumped out and saved his dad. His parents started remembering him. At last they remembered him and they were so pleased they hugged each other.
