The Pretty Shoes

By Elika
Born 2006, F, from Taipei, Taiwan
View Author Profile

One sunny day Sandy was walking on the street, and she saw a pair of pretty shoes in a store. They were so pretty, and she thought they were the prettiest shoes in the world. The shoes were pink and white and decorated with flowers. Sandy knew she had to have them. The only problem was that they were very expensive. She ran back home and asked her mom, “I want the shoes in the store, can you buy them for me?”

“No! You already have many shoes!” shouted mom.

“I only have five pairs of shoes!” exclaimed Sandy.

“Five is already too many,” replied mom.

She had a dark thought…
Quietly Sandy went to the store, and she saw the shoe seller was sleeping. Nobody was on the street. She decided to steal them. She heard, “Don’t steal them. Don’t steal them,” whispered the angel.

“Steal them! Steal them!” shouted the devil.

“If anyone sees you, you will be in trouble,” whispered the angel.

“There is nobody on the street!” shouted the devil.

“But you can’t do bad things,” said the angel.

“If you steal them, you can have them!” shouted the devil.

Sandy’s hands were shaking and her heart was bouncing. She checked all around and she quickly took them. She ran back home.

When she was finding a place to hide her shoes, her mom suddenly came in. Sandy quickly put her shoes under her bed, and her mom said, “Your room is dirty, so I will clean your room.”

“No, I will clean my room by myself,” said Sandy.

“OK,” said mom.

When the shoe seller woke up, she saw the shoes were gone. The shoe seller checked the video camera and she saw a girl taking the shoes and running away. One day Sandy walked past the shoe store. The shoe seller saw Sandy and she asked, “Did you steal the shoes?”

“Sorry!” said Sandy.

“Can you bring the shoes back here?” asked the shoe seller.

“Yes,” said Sandy.

Sandy felt very sorry about stealing the shoes, so she became a good child, and she never stole anyone’s things anymore.
