What a beautiful evening it was for the Hudson family as they were celebrating Mrs Hudson's birthday. I can't say the same though for her as she was still angry with her husband who didn't show up to her birthday party, like to any other birthday parties she has ever had. Who would blame him though, Mr Hudson was a very busy man with 3 jobs; running supermarkets, public taxis n above all he was a lawyer. Mr Hudson didn't notice his wife's mood as everyone else in the house was just as happy as any other days. he did though notice that Ben his older son had something bothering him as he kept on checking his watch every second.
"What's wrong son, you've been acting strangely all day today?" Asked father Hudson with a concerned voice!
"I'm fine dad, just that I gotta be somewhere by 21h30." Replied Ben as he took another quick glance at his wrist watch that he had been staring at since sun set.
"OK son, just don't take Brad with you, he's too young for night traveling!" Ignored Mr Hudson who didn't even bother to ask where Ben was going, he knew how rude he was, he would just answer his dad like he's answering his friend from High school or something!
"Relax dad, I won't, especially not tonight!" Ben said with a wide smile on his face.
Ben the older son had hired some criminals from the township to come murder his dad, Mr Hudson, in his own house so that he could inherit all the wealth of his father as he was the first child and first son of the Hudsons. After handy-given R 5000.00, the criminals agreed to everything. Ben had spent lunchless days, trying to save his pocket money to murder his dad, he bought no new clothes, no new shoes, until the money was enough to assassinate the richest man in town, Mr Hudson.
The criminals had agreed to do the job by 22h00 that night.
Tick...tick...tick said the Titan R3.5 thousand watch of Ben as the sticks moved to 21h23. Did that mean it was 37 min to the arrival of Ben's dream of taking over his dad? - Likely!
"Mom why don't you just leave dad alone to watch his movie, you know his movies never end, they play all night." Ben suggested with a voice his parents couldn't notice was nervous.
"No son, I'm also going to bed by 21h30 tonight because..."
"21h30! why, why?! I mean you always sleep at 22h30" Protested Ben interrupting his dad's speech that was in response to what Ben said to his mom. Ben was smart enough though to convince his dad to stay up at least until 22h00. 7 minutes from there it was 21h30, just like Ben wanted it to be.
"Bye dad, bye mom" Said Ben as he made his way out the front door.
"Don't be long son" Replied Mr Hudson while upping the volume of his TV as he was about to be left alone in the room because his wife also made her way to the bedroom just after Ben left. Mr Hudson was then the only one awake in the house as the clock approached 21h53.
The criminals looked one another in the eyes as they heard Mr Hudson laughing on top of his voice like there was someone he was laughing with inside. Ben promised to make sure that Mr Hudson, the man he didn't mention was his father, would be alone by 22h00.
"Party's over old man!" Shouted one of the 3 criminals who seemed to be some kind of boss or something because he was the only white man among the three.
Mr Hudson turned off his TV putting his hands up slowly as he had 3 guns pointing to his direction. "What do you want?" Mr Hudson asked trying to look through the men's masks just in case he could recognize them from somewhere.
"It is not what we want, it's what we don't want, and we don't want you alive old man!" The white man corrected Mr Hudson as he drove his Pistol a little higher aiming exactly to Hudson's forehead. "We are paid to kill you Hudson, R5000.00. By the way, I saw your 'I worked hard for my success' speech on TV last week, but right now it seems like you meant 'I worked hard for my death', huh old man?" Added the white man as he cocked his gun slowly.
"Please...plea...please. Is there anything I can do to you to let me go, can I double the..."
"BOOM" Said the 38mm pistol's bullet making its way right through Mr Hudson's skull, interrupting his offer to the boys who had left before even Mr Hudson's back reached the floor.
Sad day for the Hudsons, not only for them, but also for the whole city after seeing the funeral of this kind man who always kept other people's happiness first, even before his.
Mrs Hudson, Ben, Brad, and Helen, the last born daughter, are now seated by the Lawyer of Mr Hudson so that he could read the death will in front of everyone. Ben the older son just can't wait for this day to end, he is already seeing himself as a well known businessman with taxis and supermarkets.
'I'm about to be rich, yes Ben, Mr Money the second' Ben said to himself, not pronouncing the words as he saw the lawyer opening his large book.
"I, John Hudson, leave my house and all my cars to my wife Dorcad Hudson, my supermarkets to my last born daughter Helen Hudson, and my taxis to my son Brad Hudson." The lawyer read a death will.
"No! What about me, what about Ben Hudson, he must have made some kind of a mistake, I'm the older son here, there's no way I could be left outside!!!" Ben just couldn't hold himself, he stood up with tears running down his face, sweating all over his body, looking to the lawyer as if he would ask him to change what the late Mr Hudson wrote down.
The lawyer didn't react though to Ben's behavior, he just continued reading the death will.
"I, John Hudson prefer that all my money in the banks shall be shared equally to my wife Dorcas, son Brad, and daughter Helen. Ben, I know this is not how you were supposed to find out about this, but your parents died in a car accident when you were 3 months old. since they were working for me and the only family you had, I took you and raised you like my own son. I was planning on telling you this when you had reached 21. my wife will explain more to you. You are not my son. I leave you R 5000.00, so that you can start your own business!"
The lawyer looked to Ben very sadly and continued reading:
"You are not my son."
