The 2014 Guinness World Record Accident
Born 2005, F, from Taipei, TaiwanThere was once a girl called Dex, who more than anything, wanted a book called The Guinness Book of World Records 2014. If only she could have one, she’d be like a boy called Boby. Boby is in her class and he has the same book. But her mum refused to buy her one. Dex really wanted one because Boby, her best friend has it. When Dex came back from school, she waved to Boby on the bus, as it drove off, and ran up stairs.
She told her mum “Mum mum, can I get a Guinness world record book 2014 please?” moaned Dex.
“No it’s too expensive, now shoo of already and get ready for tea.” warned mum. Dex walked into her dirty room.
“I don’t care I know I’m going to get one.”
“No. Santa might buy you one but there’s no chance that I’m buying you one.”
“Why?” moaned Dex.
“I told you why. Now tea is ready, it’s chicken meatball stew.”
Well she was quite happy because chicken meatball stew is her favourite food. The next day when Dex was at school, Boby was holding The Guinness Book of World Records 2014 book, Dex couldn’t take it, she had to make it fair, it was then she had a dark thought. How could she get what she wanted?
The next day when Dex woke up there was a nice soft voice in her head, “Now today at school you have to be relaxed and happy and nice nice nice .”
Then another voice that was deeper said, “No no no, do not listen to that silly other voice. Listen to me, now at school do whatever you want to get what you want.”
When Dex was thinking about the voices she heard her mum say, “Dex, are you dressed?”
Dex had chosen to listen to the deep voice, it was more fun anyway. When Dex reached school, there, sat in the reading corner was Boby reading a The Guinness Book of World Records 2014 and 2015 book.
Dex walked to over Boby “Oh hi Boby, what are you doing?” She asked whilst splashing blood red paint onto his book.
"What are you trying to do?” asked Boby.
Before Dex could say anything the bell rang, everyone rushed out of the classroom like wild boars, when Dex tried to join them, Ms Johns called Dex over.
“You are staying in!” yelled Ms Johns.
“But why?” moaned Dex.
“Because when everybody was reading you where talking to Boby,” replied Ms Johns. “Now I want you to read for your whole snack time!”
Dex walked to the reading corner and suddenly saw the The Guinness Book of World Records 2015 on the shelf. Boby must have left it there she thought. She sat on an ocean blue pillow, when she looked around she noticed that Ms Johns had left the room, this was her chance. She could take the book without anyone noticing. As she was about to take it, the nice voice appeared in her head, “What do you think you’re doing?”
Dex ignored the nice voice and it started to rip out the pages from the book. Pages were being ripped out and thrown across the floor and then suddenly, the door slammed shut. Dex was worried, what could she do?
Suddenly a teacher called Ms Elrick kicked the door open, Dex she stood up as fast as she could, and stacked up the ripped pieces of paper under the ocean blue pillow. As soon as Ms Elrick walked in Dex pretended that she was calmly reading a book, Ms Elrick, said “Oh hi Dex. Why are you inside here?”
“Because um, oh ya because I’m seeing if the books are good!” Dex said nervously.
“Oh can you tell Ms Johns that I’m borrowing a book?” asked Ms Johns.
“Ya sure!”
“Good, now where is that Guinness Book of World Records 2014 book? Ms Johns son’s book?”
Oh no Dex thought in her head Ms Johns son’s book. Suddenly Ms Elrick asked Dex to check all the shelves and pillows and she will check the trash. Dex checked all the pillows except the ocean blue pillow. What if she got caught? Ms Johns son would kill her or what if she had to pay for it? Or worse still, what if she never got chicken meatball stew anymore?
Miss Elrick asked, “Are you sure that you checked all the pillows?”
“Yes yes! I’m sure!” said Dex; her heart was beating really fast.
Ms Elrick said that she would double check it one by one. She checked the pillows, and as she came over to the ocean blue one. Immediately, she ducked down and placed her hands over her head. When Ms Elrick saw the book, she said, “Ooh someone has ripped apart a baby book. Why would anyone do such a thing?”
“It was me Miss, I did it,” said Dex as tears welled up in her eyes.
“Oh and there is that Guinness Book of World Records 2014 book on the desk! Dex, why would you do such a thing?”
“Oh I feel so silly!”
“Do you know that it’s wrong to destroy books that do not belong to you?”
“Yes, I’m sorry, but I..”
“You will have to pay for the book that you destroyed Dex.”
“Oh ok!”
Dex paid for a replacement baby book and from that day onwards, she learnt never to be jealous again.
